I did it in 2008 Super and was disappointed not to break 4 hours (I ran Glasgow 3 times in the mid 80s with a PB of 2.52) Huge difference in running marathons from early to mid 20's and late 40's/early 50's though. I said in 2008 that I had one more left and it WOULD be sub 4 hours!! I've applied 3 times without success since but I'm in this time.

In reality and coupled with the Captaincy it probably will knock my game backwards a bit. C'est la vie :-/. Ideally the day I'd want to be doing my last long training run is the day of the Captains drive in.

I'm sure somebody from the boards did Kwini, cant remember the name though.

I quite like this mysti v mac rumble in the jungle.

I love the way Mac is professing to explain the complexities of modern banking when he clearly has no idea what an investment bank is or how it makes money. Really do you think inter-bank lending is where investment banks make their money?

The stance you've taken that Mac shouldn't question your view because you may have some higher knowledge of investing, whilst at the same time you are questioning whether Warren Buffet correctly invested his cash and professing to have been able to create a better return that his 10% per annum is amusing and ironic to say the least
Nonsense. His attitude was condescending!

did you not read his post that started it?

He is talking nonsense as usual and again you have missed the point of the return,

I was just putting it into perspective.

I explained that we couldn't get a real return due to the fact we had no figures of what he purchased the shares for, the return is based on dividends at the moment but that 10% is only real if his share are worth the same(the reality is they are possibly worth more) but them you have the other reality of - they may be worth more - but will he be able to sell them, and even if he could - that would just drive the price down..

I was then asked if there was other industries that he could get a better return on and i mentioned some!!

I have also mentioned he did well and its not easy!

I am being misquoted left right and centre here. that is the fact of it.

BTW just a heads up to some who don't know.

The motivation behind this argument is that I have actually worked in investment banks(not a massively high level but i have worked on a risk management team- this does give me a relative insight into the way banks should be run and why profits on derivatives would rarely yield a dividend, or at the very least should not yield a dividend!) .

Mac has never believed this fact. And will do everything he possibly can to taint my views. The arguments all started when Mac would follow me around the forum calling me this that and the other and bringing up my bad spelling and grammar.

The irony is is that he is now the one that can't comprehend or spell. He is losing his mind and karma has kicked him in the balls!

Mysti, i'm not interested in the who's right about the investment thing.

You've illustrated what i was getting at quite nicely, in that in all 3 of the 3 latest posts in which you have responded to me you allege that i have missed your point.

I've missed no point, i might just have a different view. It annoys me that because you might not agree with someone they assume you must not have understood what they said. It's condescending

I seem to remember asking this the last time but here goes again.

By low level, I take it you mean tea boy? As it is clear you lack any formal education and would lack the necessary numeracy skills to work in even a remotely challenging risk management role?

He's like the kid who puts a cone in the road and then waits in the bushes.

It's sad, but that's his role on here. We don't need more than one.........

To be honest i wouldn't put much stock in a lot of it. Bearing in mind he's a bit of a WUM he really could be anyone, what does it matter. Personally i suspect he's a bit like the Stanley Tucci character in The Lovely Bones

Poor spelling and grammar irks me, and if I'm being honest, lessens the credibility of a response in my eyes.  It probably shouldn't but it does.  I've also noticed Mysti's spelling and grammar is actually better of late - I recall him saying he was dyslexic, so well done on the improvement.

Like all these little spats on the board - we have a clash of personalities thinly disguised as a battle of knowledge or experience.  From what I've seen, no participant really has the domain knowledge to make a proper call in most to these arguments*  -  being slightly less wrong is not really a victory.  Most of the spats on the board centre on stating opinions and in that sense, there is no right or wrong, although sometimes watching the blind fight the blind is a nice distraction for a wet Thursday.

*Super seems to know the oil and energy businesses fairly well, and others have made cogent points when other non-golfing matters are "debated".

Bob, what does spelling really matter? Bearing in mind most of us write these things in a semi rush, in between a bit of work.

I work with a guy who can't spell for sh*t but is one of the most respected tax advisors in the country. It's broadly irrelevant, in my view

as someone that works in the investment banking world, at a level i would guess was is a bit higher that Mysti used to be (not big headedness just based on your own admission)
I come down on Mysti's basic point that this GS return of doubling of 5 years (assuming divs are re-invested) is not actually much of an anomaly in the market place.

I thought it would just be Sir Alex's backroom staff with moyes at the head, but that has not happened.

Of course the reign is over in terms of the number of trophies under Fergie.  Hopefully moyes can ensure we are a top 4 every year and title contenders more often than not and capable of decent runs in the champions league.

This is very different from under fergie where we were title favorites every year.

Isnt that the whole point about posting anonymously, that you will be different to how you are normally. I doubt Mr Mclaren would wind people up to their face as much as Mr MPB would go and knock someone out.

Buts thats what make the internet fun, isnt it??!!

You will be lucky to make that top 4 imo!

I hope they don't do anything rash and get rid of moyes if you don't make CL for a 2 years though!

He needs at least 2 years.

What I really hate about United is the fact you still insist on playing young  and valencia - yet you have ZAHA who isnt even getting on the bench. He didnt even play in the cup game!

I suppose. I am not on FB for that exact reason. I would rather spend my time talking to people I dont know!

Really?!
I'm not likely to knock anyone out. I'm not actually that sort of guy at all. But unquestionably if someone was making fun of me a la Mac to my face I would have something very aggressive to say about it.
I can honestly say I am the same on here as I am in real life. I don't use the internet or this forum to pretend to take on a different persona. I didn't think anyone would to be honest. Seems a bit odd to me

People are making ridiculous money from ideas like twitter and facebook. Some of them are genuinely good, others are ropey but investors are prepared to speculate on the basis that if you invest in 10 apps and one comes good then the profit far outweighs the 9 failed investments.

It seems nearly everyone has a facebook page, but how much money does facebook make? Currently the market capitalisation of the business is US$122bn. Five years ago it was worth about $15bn, 8 years ago it was merely millions. In comparison, global pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, which has invested billions in developing drugs and has huge secure revenue streams around the world is currently valued at... $122bn. The fact that GSK has 5 times more revenue than Facebook, or that GSK makes more profit than Facebook's total revenue is irrelevant.

You just need to know some geeky teenager who spends all his time on the internet programming instead of watching porn or playing world of warcraft. Very Happy
GSK actually only divert 15% of PROFITS into R&D. Biggest feckin scam against the taxpayer known to man.

Its not about having a completely different persona, thats just people that are fantasists or trolling for kicks. But everyone is a bit different, because know one knows who you are. You can say things on here to complete strangers, that you would not dream of doing in your "normal" life.
