Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
First topic message reminder :
I did it in 2008 Super and was disappointed not to break 4 hours (I ran Glasgow 3 times in the mid 80s with a PB of 2.52) Huge difference in running marathons from early to mid 20's and late 40's/early 50's though. I said in 2008 that I had one more left and it WOULD be sub 4 hours!! I've applied 3 times without success since but I'm in this time.super_realist wrote:Well done Jas, I've done it a few times and have applied too. Not heard back yet though.
In reality and coupled with the Captaincy it probably will knock my game backwards a bit. C'est la vie :-/. Ideally the day I'd want to be doing my last long training run is the day of the Captains drive in.BlueCoverman wrote:Nice one JAS...trust all that training won't interfere with the golf schedule too much!
I'm sure somebody from the boards did Kwini, cant remember the name though.kwinigolfer wrote:Didn't Kirkygolfer run in it - think some of us helped him raise money?

It seems nearly everyone has a facebook page, but how much money does facebook make? Currently the market capitalisation of the business is US$122bn. Five years ago it was worth about $15bn, 8 years ago it was merely millions. In comparison, global pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline, which has invested billions in developing drugs and has huge secure revenue streams around the world is currently valued at... $122bn. The fact that GSK has 5 times more revenue than Facebook, or that GSK makes more profit than Facebook's total revenue is irrelevant.
You just need to know some geeky teenager who spends all his time on the internet programming instead of watching porn or playing world of warcraft.

Of course you can and some choose to. I don't.
That is what I was wondering re Mac, whether he is like this or whether it is his 'persona'
Fair question no?

I completely believe that mac wouldn't be like he can be on here in real life. I have a feeling he could be annoying!! but not so insulting.

I would say I am pretty similar in real life. I am not sure sarcasm, or other forms of delivery that would soften the blow come across as well over an internet forum.
Is Kagawa also pumping Moyes daughter? Zaha was excellent in pre season, if anyone thinks that means anything?
It is actually a worry I have that moyes does not see how brilliant a player Kagawa is.

Anyone watch a programme last night about the near liquid bombings of 7/8 transatlantic jets. Missed the start but nonetheless made for compelling viewing.
Needless to say, in their impatience, the americans almost screwed up the brits carefully planned execution of gathering evidence to make sure they could make the charges stick when it came to arresting the suicide bombers. They seem to forget ... we don't have a Guantanamo here in the UK.

Its been in the news recently about what the Daily Mail have been writing. You have not needed to read it to see what been going on.
Best thing i saw, was if you skim through the Daily Mail, and in front of every headline, put the words "Beware Because" Its a paper aimed at making people fearful and hateful to so many things.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
You'd think that, but there are regularly enough instances of "The Daily Mail reported this" available through other media such as the BBC, ITN or Sky News to garner sufficient information to continue to think "f**k off" to them.mystiroakey wrote:I dont even know how so many people know what they write!!

Even programmes like mock the week tend to report what the paper has actually printed accurately enough before the opinions/mickey taking flows (although I do baulk at putting forward a satirical comedy programme forward as justification for rejection of certain media sources - I am merely citing an example of where certain things that are printed are made available to the public without having to read the paper itself).
My parents did regularly buy the Mail on Sunday so I did used to read it (some time ago) fairly regularly so some of my opinion is based on experience as well.

I smirked at the Russell Howard song to the tune of "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel of some of the claims the Mail have reported cause cancer. With the aid of some simple Mac journalism (TM) - ie quick google (sorry Mac!) I have copied and pasted the lyrics someone had down for it.beninho wrote:Best thing i saw, was if you skim through the Daily Mail, and in front of every headline, put the words "Beware Because" Its a paper aimed at making people fearful and hateful to so many things.
Age, air, alcohol, aspirin and calcium
Ham, honey, eggs, dogs, dieting and soup
Being a woman, being a man, bubble bath and food from cans
Being black, wearing bras, left-handiness and speedy cars
Oestrogen, climate change, baby food, the menopause
Beef, beer, pizza, pork, cereal and worcester sauce
Childlessness, children, vitamins and bacon
Chocolate, retirement, deodorant and facebook
The mail says that these cause cancer, but it's only rumours that they give you tumours
They've got some big b--ls to print it, cos it's 60 pages of scary bulls--t.

Winningest (adj) - most winning - eg Manchester United are the most winningest club in the Premier League era, innit.
I imagine the person to be a 45 year old man trying to be down wiv da kids (kidz?), courduroy trousers down round ar5e to show waistband of M&S y-fronts, LA Raiders silk effect jacket over vest.
But enough about me...

No - sorry Myst. The written word hid the tongue I was placing in my cheek (also, that isn't my outfit described, or indeed me!!!).
It is a made up word that I simply presumed is meant to mean what I typed as it makes the most sense in my tiny mind. Truth is it is equally likely to be youth speak for something completely different! Afraid I have no idea what it means to such people though...
SR - do you recall the context in which it was used (presumably immediately prior to his being called a prat by yourself)?

Keep it there, just in case.
Actually, use it in conversations with other grown ups, see what reaction it gets and whether you can decipher its meaning from those.
If you get called a prat, you must have uncovered supers true identity.

Winningest is usually used by US Sports Commentators who have a four year college education but can't speak basic English. Think Kelly Tilghman.

According to www.urbandictionary.com (clearly the definitive authority on all linguistic issues )
An unusual adjective that refers to both the subject and the author simultaneously.
Of the subject: Having the most wins.
Of the author: Being an idiot who can't be bothered to look up a real word.
Quite a nice little description that I thought.

A bit like the Columbus weather: Nicklaus's bad.
Why are weather forecasters so incompetent? Chance of rain at Muirfield Village for Friday was recorded by pgatour.com as being 30%, and it's tipping it down.
Forecast for Sunday is 80% chance of rain, but by Friday's logic perhaps that should about 300% chance. Doesn't sound good.
