A little respect, please.

This may be flogging a dead horse, or I may be described as overly sensitive, but I'd just like to ask for some respect for the boxers we talk about. I won't name any names - but I have seen over the last week some really disgraceful things being said about boxers and their opponents/careers. There are times that we can have banter and make jokes that don't disrespect the boxers in a malicious way but saying things like Joe Louis' title reign was full of "25 unpolished floating turds" (I'll be honest, I can't actually believe that Schmelling, Baer and Walcott could ever be described in this way) and that Hopkins was "a stinker" it just reeks of making unfounded pathetic low blow insults to compound your own arguments. You cannot in good conscience say that such and such was a "bloated corpse" and use that to detract from a persons victory. Some of you constantly move to devalue the careers of some of histories best boxers. You give off the knowledgeable vibe, but you reek of bias and you make your arguments seem petty and pathetic.

My call is to actually stop using this terminology to describe boxers. You need to stop saying Haye put on a "horror show" and "bottled it" when in reality, should you have stood in front of Wlad, injury or not and you found out he was faster and more skilled than you had imagined - to go 12 rounds with the man is no mean feat.

We are turning into ESB and that isn't what I think this site is about.

Yeah but lets not get too soft either. Criticism where due is fine. and Haye deserved some for his efforts against Wlad after dishing it out prior.

The whole t-shirt stunt and make huge claims effectively talking his way into a fight with thee champ. Haye is a disgrace and he has showed that time and time again tell me where I should respect him?

I would never slate Hopkins or Louis but Haye and Khan are fair game.

Its just a boxing forum Jab, they are just peoples opinions dont take it so seriously mate no one gets hurt.

Hopkins deserves untold amounts of respect but dull performances are dull performances. Not to say he isn't effective or all of his fightsare dull but fair ccriticism is fine. Petty insults are not.

Thing is - sometimes saying it your way gives them undue credit. For example Haye should be given credit for going twelve rounds with Wlad, thats Love sacks - Wlad spent most of the night chasing him and it wasn't a great performance from Wlad either.

Wlad's complete negligence toward body shots meant that went 12 rounds. 12 rounds of dross. Can I say dross?

I agree jab a few of the comments of late have just been petty. The thread on women boxers was particularly unnecessary too. Talk like that can be done through PM's if that's what floats your boat. It adds nothing to the site and thankfully the mods block it straight away.

Banter is one thing but when you are completely getting away from the reason we are all on here completely there is gets a bit of a bore.

I think Fury is garbage and Kell Brook is the highest waste of talent ive ever known or seen.

For what it's worth I'm with Jabby on this, and I'd add that this forum would be much improved if all showed each other's opinions bait more respect, and stuck to debating boxing rather than descending into play ground style name calling. Too often we are guilty of taking offence when someone doesn't agree with our point of view. That does not mean that "they don't know sh1t about boxing" .if can 'to address the point by sticking to boxing , don't bother.

Thanks for the responses guys - I think a couple of people have misunderstood what I mean in places. Its quite alright to say things like "Tyson Fury is rubbish" because thats sort of....well its a loosely opinionated statement, its not degrading to the man himself and taking away from his career. Calling greats like Baer, Schmelling etc "unpolished floating turds" is an absolute joke.

The reason I'm here at least is for the most part I feel like I'm talking to adults, if I wanted kids opinions I'd go to ESB or I'd reply to videos on Youtube. I just feel that certain posters drag down this place by trying to validate their own point so much that they stamp their feet and get nasty, not only towards boxers and degrading their careers, but each other. "Kiddo", "Son", "Clown" - These may be loosely veiled insults, but they only ever appear when theres a difference of opinion. I'm guilty of it, I admit, but I tend to only do so when arguing with some of the people I'm talking about. For the most part if someone disagrees with me, I'll take their opinion on board.

Bear in mind folks, with new evidence, you can change your opinion. You are allowed.

Just send me a list of who you all mean. The next time Union is in a bad mood i'll give it to him and he will ban them all. He is like that.

1.  Hopkins is a stinker............Americans use the term stinker for spoiler..Like trialhorse for journeyman,.....Hoppo spoils because he can't fight for more than a minute a round If that.......Which in fairness is still amazing for a 50ish year old Man.....Exciting he ain't..........

2.  Fans always use hyperbole............If I say Vitali is a plodder that doesn't mean I necessarily disrespect him........Who could.......It's just that I'm exaggerating to prove my point......In the same way fans from other sport say "Hart is s**t because he's made some mistakes"...........It's just fan hyperbole.....

3. Never spoken  of Louis opponents as turds..................Walcott beat Louis as Louis admitted so...........As for his other opponents I'd pick any top 20 heavy to dismiss them.......I respect Louis he's my number 2........His opponents were pretty much one dimensional stiffs........In my humble opinion.

4. Haye was giving it the "big un".........Wearing T-shirts with decapitated heads and then ran like a thief..........Got paid millions and had no remorse for the fans who paid good money to go...........Classless punk and he bottled it..........Now you are infering that it takes bottle get in the ring...It does.....But a Pinklon Thomas who went in to beat Tyson and a Bonecrusher smith who cacked his pants are two separate things......

Haye went tin to survive and bottled trying to win.........

It does annoy me when people say things like "Kell Brook is a bum". It's a ridiculous statement, he clearly is extremely talented and has fought a decent level of opposition and has been unlucky with injuries etc. However, he's just a bum because he hasn't fough tfor a world title.

It annoys me how everyone that hasn't fought at world level nowadays is automatically a bum. Ridiculous to me, a lot of the guys that don't make it to world level put an awful lot into it for years and years just to be labelled a bum, bit harsh.
