Tommy Robinson leaves the EDL

English Defence League leader and founder Tommy Robinson has left the group, saying he has concerns over the "dangers of far-right extremism".

The EDL organises protests across the UK against "radical Islam".

Mr Robinson said it was still his aim to "counter Islamist ideology", although "not with violence but with better, democratic ideas".

And fair play to him for doing that. I believe he, and other leaders of the EDL, had a discussion with a counter-extremism think tank and came to this conclusion. Probably the right one as well.

What next for Tommy Robinson?

Let's give Tommy Robinson credit because he was making a lot of money from being the EDL leader through donations, public speeches, selling clothing and sponsorship etc and he left the EDL because he said it became too extreme for his liking.

Tommy has left the EDL because he has said he wants to combat extremism through more democratic means. I am guessing that means he will be standing for election either as an MP an MEP or a councillor.

I'm just quoting what the BBC said. Qulliam is what's it called.

I think these EDL chaps should be given a biro and a packet of beef jerky, dropped into Afghanistan and told they have carte blanche to put and end to terrorism and this "threatening" Islamist ideology.

Let's see how they get on.

The democratic approach should always be welcomed I guess.

Another piece on the bbc today suggests thousands of Islamic extremists could threaten the country.

I guess his thoughts and worries aren't too wide of the mark.
