the boys from from the valley
First topic message reminder :
this is a post to compare two great boxers. joe "the pride of wales" calzaghe and nathan cleverly. the similarities between them are blatent. both from south wales, both trained by there dads, both train in the valleys instead of in train campings, both undefeated, joe a world champion and nathan fighting brahmer for the title in the near future (both at around the same age)- as well as the fact that cleverly trained from the age of 9 in enzo's camp, and was a sparring partner for calzaghe when he was the world champ and cleverly was still virtually unknown.
my question is, do you think cleverly will make the same dent in boxing history as calzaghe did, or even suprass it? now personally i'm a huge calzaghe fan and enjoyed watching all his fights, especially the kessler, hopkins, jones jr, eubank, lacy and manfredo jr fights. i know people will have a million reasons as to why these names are not that impressive (opponents past there prime etc) but you can only beat whats in front of you and besides thats not the point of the post. imo cleverly has a few good wins, but only a few and is yet to be tested to his full potential. i think brahmer would be a good name on his cv and look forwards to seeing how his career pans out. i think he will win the brahmer fight and can't wait to see how he will develop.

Those 20 odd defences don't look that good now.
But the point is it is not who you fight, it is who you don't fight and Calzaghe took on the top guys and beat them.
Except for Jones, when it mattered, Dawson, Froch, Taylor, Johnson, blah blah blah...
Why are you so fussed about Calzaghe all of a sudden anyway D4? Don't you have a Manny thread to write..? Oh...
Dawson, not on the radar, Froch had not done nothing, Taylor didn't want it. RJJ was at light heavy and made no moves for Calzaghe.
He could have fought Johnson though.

And he moved up and fought Hopkins instead, a tougher fight.

JC wanted nothing to do with Froch, he knew Froch was young and was gunning for him.

And what had Froch done at that time?
Did he match up to Kessler or Hopkins?
Didn't the former beat a better version Froch even though he was not a good as version of himself when he faced Calzaghe.

Not sure Kessler is past it him and Froch was an excellent fight. Froch was to high risk with little reward.

'A' beat 'B' so will also beat 'C' arguments just don't work though. You know that. I'm sure Pavlik also made noises about Calzaghe too.

Thats not the point, Froch had not proven himself at that point and Calzaghe took tougher fights.

Froch was his mandatory, so clearly he HAD proven himself. Calzaghe only took Hopkins after much waiting.

Yes and Salita was Khan's Mandatory, that was a tough fight.
Calzaghe wanted the big fights before he retired, Froch was not one of them.

Khan wouldn't have fought Salita if he wasn't American.

That's irrelevant. But, at least he took the fight. You're getting desperate now. Suppose you're still sulking.

If Salita was Eastern European who was unknown in the States for example he wouldn't have fought him Salita only got the fight because he was American and it put Khans name in their press. He wasn't a big name but enough that it was reported.

I think you are under the impression that Salita is some sort of big star in the states. He is not.

You said Froch had done nothing to deserve it. Now you change your tune because he HAD.

I said he wasn't a big name try reading what I wrote. He was known by their boxing fans which made it a good fight for Khan it got him a bit more exposure over their.

Remind me again who Froch had beat before the Kessler fight?

All you've proved is that you're desperate for attention and tiresome in the extreme. Congratulations.
