Getting people into Wrestling
So, short and sweet, how on earth do I get my friends into wrestling after they've asked me to help them get into it?
Obviously, the whole "It's fake" argument will come up, and I'm not sure how to explain about it being scripted not fake etc. So, does anyone have any ideas to help them get into wrestling and a noobs guide to it all?
Sorry for the random thread, this was the best place to come to to ask!

Make sure that you do not allow them to watch TNA under any circumstances.

Re: Getting people into Wrestling
My friend got into it because I just spoke about it like a little kid non stop and he wanted to see what all the fuss was about...after I explained who everyone was and basic wrestling terms I left him to watch things on his own...he's by no means a fan now but he has completely changed his attitude of 'yeah but it's fake and there's no rock any more' which I deem a success.

So what if its fake. It's entertainment not sport. Just like the movies.

Re: Getting people into Wrestling
The old Tables Ladders & Chairs matches between E&C, The Hardy's and Dudley's would be a good starting point.
Maybe a few cage matches etc.
Just to get the ball rolling.

If you have to get someone into wrestling I would imagine efedding would be the last thing you should show them. It would put them off for life.

Get them to watch TNA rather than WWE. At least there is proper wrestling in TNA

If someone is already skeptical about even watching and enjoying wrestling then efedding is hardly the way to get someone into it.Paul Mac 6CW wrote:Harsh - Care to elaborate?
Its like convincing someone to watch Star Wars but first, make sure you buy all the figures and go to all the conventions first.

Re: Getting people into Wrestling
Because it seems like a mess at the moment. Even people who like TNA are slating it for not being ran properly etc. I just think all that would have them think all wrestling is like that. I would of course recommend WWE but failing that maybe somehting like ROH.Adam D wrote:why?Shot 21 LCFC wrote:Make sure that you do not allow them to watch TNA under any circumstances.

Not really - I would equate it to reading fan fiction which is closely linked to the original topic. It's not like we all sit at our PC's in spandex and luchador masksMIG wrote:If someone is already skeptical about even watching and enjoying wrestling then efedding is hardly the way to get someone into it.Paul Mac 6CW wrote:Harsh - Care to elaborate?

Seriously though I agree, I wouldn't honestly use efedding as a way of getting people into wrestling but I would argue with likening it to fandoms of such Sci fi movies. I think the best way to get somebody hooked is to see it live, you cant help but get caught up in the atmosphere and from there your interest will grow - WWE/TNA programming, Indy feds and then who knows its only a hop, skip and a jump over to the dark side of efedding

Re: Getting people into Wrestling
My friend recently got into wrestling - she watched the June PPV with me and really enjoyed it. She immediate thought Daniel Bryan and CM Punk were fantastic and once she saw the hot-ness of The Shield she was sold

I am sure that I am not the only one on here now imagining that you had a bra and panty match straight after the PPV.Sara wrote:My friend recently got into wrestling - she watched the June PPV with me and really enjoyed it. Re: Getting people into Wrestling
Hahaha thanks for such a vast response! I've already convinced them to come to the O2 with me to see the WWE when they're next there (Couldn't get to Novembers!).
I remember reading an article or thread on here about the whole "Fake or scripted" thing, one that actually was a really good argument against anyone who kept calling it fake. Does anyone know who wrote it and where it is?

Royal Rumble's are always a good starting point, thats how I got into it and I've got friends who ONLY watch the Rumble. It gives you a decent idea of 30 guys, a broad spectrum to pick a favourite guy from.

Re: Getting people into Wrestling
I have not watched a full episode of RAW or Smackdown for about 7 years, but if bra and panties matches are on the way back, i'll book a front row seat.Sara wrote:Well its funny you should mention that...............we didn't, lolAdam D wrote:I am sure that I am not the only one on here now imagining that you had a bra and panty match straight after the PPV.Sara wrote:My friend recently got into wrestling - she watched the June PPV with me and really enjoyed it. I know punk was there in the early days but still see him as more of an Indy guy especially since he was only ever employed on an independent contract

He's referring to RVD because obviously if anyone was ever asked to think of which organisation RVD is synonymous with they'd immediately think of the hard work and effort he put into his stretch at TNA rather than ECW.

The evidence suggests otherwise. Its rather the opposite. And rather quite cheerful doesnt make any sense.Bull wrote:1. I don't cut myself.Adam D wrote:UGH EMOS.
