Am I right in thinking that this is the first time since Federer that someone was defeated Murray, Djokovic and Nadal in a season?

Re: Shanghai thread
What a match from Del Potro. He is finally starting to look like 2009 Del Potro. He can hit massive shots and still look like he is playing within himself.
So happy with the result.

Haa, I knew if I watch the match Del Po would lose but if I skip it he wins, I gonna skip the final as well and I am pretty sure he gonna win Djoko as well.

Well done IC, thanks for the sacrifice. Del Potro was outstanding; unreal hitting throughout most of the match.invisiblecoolers wrote:Haa, I knew if I watch the match Del Po would lose but if I skip it he wins

I still make Djoko favourite - he is better on this sort of surface than Rafa but its set up to be a cracking final. Great to see some fantastic matches even with half the big 4 awol.

Re: Shanghai thread
SB, its a sacrifice that helped me as well, I simply cannot take another match like Wimbledon semi's or Olympic semi's both were difficult to digest. I don't mind him losing matches like the 6-4 6-0 6-0 matche against Fed in AO 2009, but losing close matches when you know you could have easily won is more difficult to digest but eventually his devastating forehand and deadly backhand always rekindles my spirit to enjoy the occasion.summerblues wrote:Well done IC, thanks for the sacrifice. Watching Highlights his monstrous hitting scared me as well. , I can understand how Rafa would have felt

Re: Shanghai thread
Djokovic has been the better player throughout apart from the bizarre service game where he gave away a break by falling over playing forehands in three different points.
However, Del Clutchro has been very much in the house today. He's been saving break points consistently with massive play throughout sets 2 and 3.

Awesome from Djokovic. Well deserved title. Never really looked like losing despite how close the match was.

Re: Shanghai thread
My two favourite players.
Great match, nothing between them but Novak was stunningly good in the tiebreak. His net play has improved beyond all recognition.
I feel for Del Potro. Will a draw ever open up for him?! hope the big guy continues at this level.

Well played both players, great to see Delpo back in form! Another title for Novak, his game seems to be really coming back, since going back to world number two, he is playing like a number one!

Re: Shanghai thread
tremendous point from Djokovic at 3-2 in the tiebreak to sieze the iniative. Great defence as other players would have been put away earlier, then recovering to hit a winner.

From scrambling defence to a clean winner in 3 shots. An outstanding point.

Two of the nicest guys in sport. Some genuine warmth between them.
I shouldn't feel so warmed by their hug at 3:35 but I guess I'm becoming soft in my old age!

Re: Shanghai thread
That's where Del Potro's lack of variation is exposed. He needed to come in behind that FH. Amazing get nonetheless it was a great get from Djokovic.Henman Bill wrote:tremendous point from Djokovic at 3-2 in the tiebreak to sieze the iniative. Re: Shanghai thread
Del Potro's lack of variation was exposed when he couldn't do enough to approach and finish points around the fore court and Nole cosequently turned from defence to attack rapidly on quite a good many occassion that proved pivotal. And Del Potro's really poor, predictable passing shots made Nole's net game look far better than it was. I don't know what the stats were but I never saw Nole lose a point when he came to the net - which was quite a lot. Plenty to take encouragement from for Del boy though.

Re: Shanghai thread
Djokovic won something like 20 of 21 net points.
I noticed earlier he is up to 15 Masters Series titles now. It's unlikely he'll trouble Roger's slam record but given his virtuosity on all surfaces and his rock solid physical condition I think Rafa's 1000 event tally may be usurped by Novak's when both have hung up their racquets.

Re: Shanghai thread
Nole have to double up his current stats to catch Rafa, and only God knows what number Rafa will end up with respect to masters, I won't be surprised if Rafa reaches a 3 figure mark in Masters , whats his current tally anyways 95?spdocoffee wrote:Djokovic won something like 20 of 21 net points.
