Pim Pim qualifies in Stockholm!
Joachim Johansson is a big serving Swede who reached the top 10 before his career was basically ended through injury at the age of 23 (he officially retired in 2008 aged 27). Now aged 31 he entered qualies in the Stockholm Open and has reached the main draw without dropping a set.
He will face Falla in Round 1. What price a fairy tale run to the title?

Another Swede I used to watch was Vinciguerra. Injury was his nemesis too. He still plays Davis Cup for SWE. Very nice player to watch.
Hope Pim Pim does well.

It is amazing he can come back having not played for years and take apart a couple of top 200 players. Will be interesting to see how he goes against Falla. Have to assume his serve will give him a decent shot.

Re: Pim Pim qualifies in Stockholm!
With a serve like he has, indoors, he's always going to be a danger. It's like when Sampras hadn't picked up a racquet for 5 years then played Federer in an exho to which Roger commented Pete was still in best 5 servers out on tour. It's the last thing to go on a player...Goran still serves in the mid 140s, Pete does sometimes (newer radar speeds and all...), even Mac can serve high 120s still. Pim Pim always did have a glorious serve...hope it can see him deep this week.

JJ - I'd almost forgotten him. He was some player. Hope he does well here. In fact, he's already done well - to qualify.

PimPim leads Falla 6-1 4-3 (Up a break).
PS: 6-3 wins the match.

He's lethal indoors...this is the guy who served a record (then) 51 aces in a match vs Agassi at AO2005 - in just 4 sets!!! He served about 25 games so that's approx, 2 aces per game! Ridiculous...and it wasn't grass or indoors either!

Great stuff. Raonic next. Can't see Pim Pim breaking serve but hopefully will keep it close.

In other tournament news, giant Russian teenager Khachanov took out Tipsy to make the QF in Moscow.

6'6 monster, starting to see a trend here...I remember Ivan Ljubicic said the court speed means the best players are the best defenders, so the next generation will be huge athletes who can hit through the court and defenders.

Movement is always an issue for very tall players, over 6'1", there are few. Hopefully he can do better than Isners and Karlovics of the world, perhaps a Del Potro. Kafelnikov thinks so.
Kafelnikov, who was watching courtside, assessed Khachanov’s performance.
“I watched him play yesterday for the first time [against Tipsarevic] and I don’t say this, a lot, about many people, but this kid is the real deal. He doesn’t have the junior game anymore and he definitely knows what he’s doing on the court… and that’s very impressive.
“He has good ground strokes. He moves well and serves big. He’s solid off both wings and hits many winners. His demeanour is very good and he has the whole package.”
