Morning all.
I saw someone on this topic yesterday I think talking about sponsors with the clubs, has this been done before? It sounds like its quite fun.

It has been done before yes, I'd back it for this league because it injects a bit of cash too.

I've been surprised at Negredo too, although Soldado has been okay and looked good against Villa at the weekend. I don't think AVB is used to playing with a striker, his sole tactic last season was to feed Bale. Now he has a team to feed.

I think I said it on the media page last week, but the mention on the feedback was someone else.Azzy Mahmood wrote:Whoever said the Spanish Aaron Lennon thing, I want to know who you are. There's three pints of beer in it for you.
I used to like Navas, but he wasn't very good for Sevilla last year and has not really impressed at City. Whilst he is still a decent winger and would get into a lot of sides in this league, he is far from the best or most rated as Treb's claims and Schurrle is twice the player at the moment.

I remember how we once said we'd never rag on other managers' players
Navas has all the skills needed to be a huge success at City, but he hasn't gotten to grips with the pace and physicality of the Premier League (yet). Given time he could turn out to be the Spanish Andros Townsend.

I don't think I would go that far even now. Two months and a couple of good performances for England doesn't put Townsend in the class of a double Euros and World Cup winner. Given the choice, I would go for Navas out of the twosodhat wrote:Imagine someone saying Townsend > Navas last year at this stage.

I think sponsors with a twist would be cool.
I.e a Russian oil company sponsors your team. All Russian players are half price through TPs due to them subsidising but you have to play 2 Russians every week

I don't disagree. In fact I backed Navas to do well in the PL and I still think he'll be ok. But I can't say one player is better than another just because they've won stuff. Player vs player is a merit thing. Team vs team is when medals are on the table.Afro wrote:I don't think I would go that far even now. Navas played a sum total of about 150 minutes across all three tournaments, come on nowAfro wrote:Two months and a couple of good performances for England doesn't put Townsend in the class of a double Euros and World Cup winner. Given the choice, I would go for Navas out of the two
And Townsend was playing like this for QPR towards the end of last season, so let's say 4 months. Players have been bought for £85m based on the same amount of time

My point is not literally that he won those things or how much of the tournament he played. My point is that getting an international call-up is a merit thing. You get called up if you are good enough, not if you aren't (for Spain you do anyway).sodhat wrote:I don't disagree. In fact I backed Navas to do well in the PL and I still think he'll be ok. The fact is that Navas was deemed good enough to be included in a squad that has won all three of the last major tournaments they have been involved in, and is packed full of world stars and some of the best players any of us have witnessed.

Different for club sides and international sides though isn't it. The players can't be chopped and changed as readily in a club side as they can for a national side, therefore the pool of players to choose from is far greater.GSC wrote:Bad players can play in good teams and vice versa.
