They are NOT our band it is the Cwmtawe Brass Band they are predominately kids they are basically half and half Osprey and Scarlet supporters, the leader is an Osprey supporter, the thing about smoking has been debated to death on our website, which finished about 3 years ago when it was explained satisfactorily for the most hardened of our smokers, it is now accepted. So in 1 game you think Hallam Amos outshone Eli Walker that is why Walker has been in the Welsh squad for about a year, Amos is a good prospect, so the Cardiff coaches thinks Williams is a better player than Rees and so do the Welsh coaches and he is so good the Scottish Region don't resign him, and are you honestly suggesting that Evans is better than a fit Ryan, which he definately wasn't against both Leinster and Northampton, then my first comment about you was spot on.Risca Rev wrote:What's the point in your band and your tannoy then, if you aren't there to sing? How do you support by just sitting there? You lot don't chant either.
I don't need to smoke, but people do. I certainly don't epitomise what's wrong with this country if I did though. It isn't a multiuse stadium all the time though is it, it was a rugby stadium (allegedly) last night.
It is nothing to do with the fact we might have a better chance of progressing, it's appeal of grounds. As to how many players we supply to the Wales squad, I'm not too worried. I'd rather not have our players broken by Gatland etc. There's always a case of favouritism in some cases though. I thought Amos showed more than Eli Walker last night considering how poor we were, as an example. Richie Rees has been better than Lloyd Williams and definitely Phillips thus far. Ryan Jones has been injured a lot this season and was poor at Northampton, whereas other back rowers have been better (including Evans until last night).

Basically you don't need to spur your players on when you are playing the Dragons, you celebrate when the team does well but there is no need to sing to spur a team on against the poor teams. The Dragons play in a little shed and it makes it sound like there is a great atmosphere on derby days or on days when there are a lot of knock ons, same thing happens when we play at Bridgend.

Leach is at least our defensive leader and they're pretty settled now are him and Dixon. Ross Wardle will be pretty disappointed with his attempt at Morgan, where I'd hope one of the others might have had him.
We could have had the NZ back line last night though, but we would still struggle to match a team with a front five.

Squads are meant to be selected on form, not on who has done what previously or so and so should be in the squad as he's been there before. Pretty poor player management by your lot then, if you're rushing Jughead back. You must have cover no? Evans has been in better form this season, as has Shingler.wayne wrote:They are NOT our band it is the Cwmtawe Brass Band they are predominately kids they are basically half and half Osprey and Scarlet supporters, the leader is an Osprey supporter, the thing about smoking has been debated to death on our website, which finished about 3 years ago when it was explained satisfactorily for the most hardened of our smokers, it is now accepted. Just sounds like a load of excuses from you. Do you play the Dragons every week then, as you'd still find more atmosphere on the moon most weeks? I'd rather our shed than a lifeless bowl dumped in some rubbish industrial estate.Welsh Magician wrote:Basically you don't need to spur your players on when you are playing the Dragons, you celebrate when the team does well but there is no need to sing to spur a team on against the poor teams. I was probably wrong to mention you in the same bracket there Wayne. And I can tell you're more of a grown-up from your posts. I hope you maintain this attitude and don't go over the top, this forum could be more of a contructive place then.wayne wrote:Well, I'm a 5'8 ex armed forces man and I'd say anything to someones face I'd say on here. The Saint wrote:Magician and wayne are rather cheeky over an internet forum. Saint, if you are a Dragons supporter, the way the WRU are shafting you over the 50% holding and us with among others stopping us playing Tonga last season, WE and all the other Regions need to stick together, lets agree to differ over this, it's not that important. The Saint wrote:I was probably wrong to mention you in the same bracket there Wayne. I am a fan of the KFC and I did have to utilise the Brantano once, I will confess. It was more to do with the slightly out of town location.Breadvan wrote:Rubbish industrial estate? The bloody cheek of it! Huge b&q, bargains at tk mx etc....

That Salford City Stadium is a decent setup. Though they do seem to have some money behind them now.
I am actually 6'5 and current Forces Man, but I don't think anybody has said anything wrong out here that we'd need to have that sort of discussion in the real world. Just opinions after all.

Re: Ospreys v NGD's 25/10 k.o 1905
Well that was an interesting read!
I got to the in-laws' to see that the Dragons had taken an early lead and I was pretty happy with the first half, apart from the woeful attempts at tackles on Matthew Morgan (four missed I think, including one by Jevon Groves, who was poor all round). We tried to play at times, but most of the time we kicked, which isn't necessarily a bad strategy away from home. But Griff's right, it seemed all of a sudden that the Os were out of sight, and Kingsley pointed out that it was two individual tries that did the main damage. Tipuric is a superb footballer. Once we were behind by that much we really needed to change tactics and play some rugby, but we seemed to stick to the kicking game. It was a disappointing performance, and by the sounds of it - I didn't see the Amlin game against Bath - it's the second time we've really fallen away in the second half of away games.
Presumably Jason Tovey will be back for the Leinster game, and I'm sure we'll give a better account of ourselves then (even if we do play in a shed). I thought they could have done with bringing Jonny Evans on sooner for Richie Rees, who looked out of sorts, but I imagine they'll still start with Rees on Friday. Leinster just about snuck a win at home to Connacht on the weekend and I've heard some Connacht fans weren't impressed with the refereeing in the last ten minutes.

Re: Ospreys v NGD's 25/10 k.o 1905
I thought Rees did okay personally. Tidied up a lot of mess that he was presented, but otherwise he didn't get the chance to do much. I keep saying it when I see his name in our side, that I don't rate Jevon Groves. We should've started Talei in that game. It's obvious we are going to be up against it with their pack and so why wouldn't we want somebody who can firstly stop their players before they get running and secondly at least threaten a gainline for us.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Well that was an interesting read!

Though to be fair to the three others who missed Morgan for the first try, he should never have got behind Wardle. Once he'd made the initial break it was always going to be difficult to stop.
Leinster will be missing their players I believe aye, but their pack usually manages to squeeze the life out of us. Of course it's a different management setup now, but I am still worried. It will be a good game though, plus it's my birthday on Friday so all gratefully received

That's why ideally I would have Lewis Evans, Cudd and Talei at 8 on Friday (as Ieuan Jones was pretty poor, particularly that attempt on Bearman).

Re: Ospreys v NGD's 25/10 k.o 1905
Fair appraisal, bar when he says some performances weren't up to Regional standard. I would suggest most personally.South Wales Argus wrote:NEWPORT Gwent Dragons start preparations for Leinster today with their boss' stinging criticism ringing in their ears, writes Chris Kirwan.
Director of rugby Lyn Jones issued a damning appraisal of his team's performance in last Friday's 40-17 loss to the Ospreys.
He declared that his charges tackled "like a Division One side" at the Liberty Stadium and that their display was unacceptable for a regional side.
It is the first time that Jones, who arrived from London Welsh this summer, has given his new team both barrels; this time there was no post-match talk about the good in their game or their inexperience.
He will be expecting much, much better when the Dragons welcome Leinster to Rodney Parade on Friday evening.
"We weren't good enough against the Ospreys," said Jones. "Lots of players were giving everything they had and sadly other boys were missing tackles like a Division One side.
"Some performances just weren't up to regional standard.
"We didn't kick very intelligently, which gave the Ospreys the field position and possession to affect the game.
"And you can't defend for 80 per cent of the game because you are going to get tired, so when you have the ball you must hold onto it and play. We just couldn't do that."
....The Dragons have made a promising start to the season to sit in sixth place in the RaboDirect Pro12, an improvement on a horror 2012/13 when they finished one from bottom.
They have beaten Ulster, the Scarlets, Zebre and Mogliano at Rodney Parade but have lost to Edinburgh, Munster, Bath and the Ospreys on the road.
However, Jones isn't prepared to brush off the latest setback as just another case of travel sickness.
"We are not putting our heads in the sand and pretending this was a one-night stand," he said.
"The Ospreys game was a watershed for us and a measurement for a lot of players.
"Newport Gwent Dragons are a showing signs of ambition, I want this club to move forward and I want players to take the opportunities to show me and everybody that they are the ones to do that.
"That was not a performance for a regional side in Wales. Simple as that."
- Jones confirmed the Dragons have made an approach to Moseley for the services of former Wales Under-20s captain Cory Hill.
The ex-Cardiff Blues lock featured for the West Midlanders in their 28-17 English Championship defeat to Leeds on Saturday.
If Hill opts to move back to Wales then the Dragons will need to pay Moseley compensation.
Of course it will also be interesting to see how we manage on Friday, without two of our better players and two that actually did okay v the Ospreys (particularly Coombsy).

Re: Ospreys v NGD's 25/10 k.o 1905
I'm not always a fan of coaches doing this, but in this instance I'm glad he's gone public with his criticism. He's not saying anything that isn't true. We've set our standards for the season with the performances against Ulster and the Scarlets and last Friday's performance fell well below that. And without wanting it to sound like sour grapes, I didn't think the Os looked terribly threatening bar the first two tries. We need to make the opposition earn their victories against us.

The O's had little apart from their set piece and Morgan's/Tips moments of brilliance.
Dragon's defending was shocking as was our tactical kicking.

I haven't got a problem with coaches airing the view on players in public and neither should players, after all they are happy to have a coach praise them in public if they go well so should expect criticsm to.
Lyn nor Kingsley Jones have never pulled their punches and that for me is a good thing and something players need.

Re: Ospreys v NGD's 25/10 k.o 1905
Does anyone think that we have a tactic of concentrating on our home games in terms of squad selection? Is it a deliberate ploy? This was a weakened side - people have already mentioned how Talei could have been in there. Groves probably shouldn't. The front row was arguably weaker than normal, and the centres were not the normal boys. So is this a deliberate ploy to have the strongest team rested and ready at home, where the fans demand more? We did similar against Munster away, resting a load of the 1st choice boys.
It's a difficult one for the coaches - they need to rotate to keep the squad fresh, try different options and to keep players happy, but do you do it against the toughest opposition??? There's an element of me that thinks "that'll learn you" - it's a bit rich for the coaches to moan at the team when they've deliberately weakened it, even though some (or lots of) performances were worthy of both barrels from Lyn, but I do understand their predicament.

it seems the dregs only focus on home games and only really get up for it when playing at home against another region.

After last season (and the season before last wasn't great either), I can see the logic in focussing on home games first, then building on that to improve on our away form. On the other hand, couldn't we just target all games?

I'm glad Cory Hill will be playing back in Wales (possibly). I think he has good potential, better than that of Down, Reed, Cooke; the guys that were rated ahead of him... He's a big lad and throws his weight around, and he has time on his side. That's what we need in the engine room.
