Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
First topic message reminder :
Crikey, it's as dead as Trussman's love life around here this evening.
Are we all set for a great night of boxing action?

I always thought Bute was quite relaxed and fluid in his movement.

It's hard to move so well when a cobra's constricting around you, in fairness.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
Just finished watching Quillin-Rosado.
Tough viewing for the first four or five rounds, and pretty enjoyable after that. Can understand Rosado's frustrations, but in fairness it was a horrible-looking cut and it would only have taken a couple more of Quillin's punches to see it deteriorate, and deteriorate quickly.
I had Quillin in front by a reasonable margin at the time of the stoppage, but it was a good, plucky effort from Rosado and the two judges who basically had Quillin pitching a shut out need shooting!
Still not really convinced that Quillin is from the top plate. He's got a bit of speed about him and can pick out the odd nice counter for sure, but he looks very uncomfortable when someone really gets at him (his body mechanics seemed to totally fall apart a couple of times when Rosado was forcing him back) and his attack is pretty repetitive. No combinations and pretty average punch accuracy.
He controlled the action when it was at mid-range, but from round five onwards when Rosado really started pressing and forcing him to the corners / ropes, I don't think he liked it much.
On that evidence, Golovkin would hammer him.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
Agree with you in all points, Chris. I was surprised that Rosado was able to get inside and rough him up. Enjoyable fight, but Quillin didn't look good last night. The official scorecards had him miles ahead, so the fight being stopped due to a cut probably prevented a great deal of outrage.88Chris05 wrote:Just finished watching Quillin-Rosado.

Agree with this. Quillan looks good when everything is going to plan for him, but looked panicked at times under pressure. This is even when Rosado was pressuring without punching all that much. I can only imagine that Golovkin, with his pressuring style, great punch variety, and crazy power, would maul him. Still, I'd want to see the fight to find out.88Chris05 wrote:Just finished watching Quillin-Rosado.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
Every time I listen to Nick Halling he gets worse and worse.
There was one round where Maciel utterly dominated and Halling said, it was a close round you can pick what you like!!!!
I thought Maciel was very unlucky last night, the rounds he won were clear and decisive where as the rounds Rose won were very close.
I really think that when Rose steps up another level he is going to get beaten. He showed massive heart and courage though and showed some nice stuff.

Quillin always sets up knockdowns by lead right hand followed by left hook. Every time. If Golovkin has a half smart trainer he'll know what to watch out for.

I thoroughly enjoyed the BHop fight.
I never thought I'd ever say that, especially now with him being almost 49 years old. An exceptional performance from an exceptional fighter.

He did his best, but other than disqualifying Murat which nobody wanted to happen, what could he do? he took one point off him, but it wasn't like taking anymore would have matteredcatchweight wrote:No mention of Steve Smoger? I read he was a disgrace.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
I heard he was a massive homer to Hopkins. Celebrated with Hopkins in his corner after the fight and swore at Murat and physically pushed him in the face after the fight.

murat and smoger did seem to fall out, but murat was fouling from the first to the last. head locks, low blows, hitting on the break and trying to fight whilst smoger was in the middle trying to split them up. Hopkins didn't need any favours...
man you are desparate

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
Im going off the reports I have read. Ive no interest in watching the fight. Physically pushing a fighter in the face and then celebrating in Hopkins corner by hugging and kissing him is extremely unprofessional. There are countless comments out there saying he was poor. I guess like yourself, love makes you blind. Was this another sell out like his half full Dawson fight that you were at by the way?

never liked smoger, he was the same before and after the rematch with marg and cotto. he shouldn't have pushed murat, but murat was abusive all fight towards him. smoger may not have covered himself in glory but if that is the straw you are clutching to try and knock Hopkins performance than you are very desparate. Hopkins needed no favours in this fight

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
I didnt mention anything that Hopkins needed. I said I didnt watch the fight. I merely pointed out that the reports I read of the fight said that Smoger was awful and unprofessional. Your man love for Hopkins obviously interpreted this as claiming Hopkins relied on the ref to win which is something that I never said. If the reports I read are true, that Smoger swore at Murat during the fight, that he pushed him in the face and that he stayed in Hopkins corner celebrating with him and hugging him and kissing him thaen I think its fair to say it was extremely unprofessional. Im talking about Smogers performance here, not Hopkins.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
I thought Smoger was awful personally. Let Hopkins do everything he wanted until eventually Murat fouled back then deducted from Murat. Hate that style of reffing, may as well tell one guy the rules don't apply to them.
Hopkins, brilliant though he was, got away with holding and hitting, butting etc. far too much.

Re: Fight Night.... LIVE!!!!
After the final bell Murat headbutted Hopkins and Smoger pushed murats head to stop the headbutt. He was preventing Murat from headbutting Hopkins after the fight ended.catchweight wrote:I didnt mention anything that Hopkins needed. I said I didnt watch the fight. I never saw him swear at Murat, perhaps you can watch the fight and tell me the round and the time.

smoger is always awful. but murat was cheating from the very start. constant headlocks and punching on the break. he didn't start cheating after Hopkins didJohn Bloody Wayne wrote:I thought Smoger was awful personally. I like Steve Smoger, generally a very good referee.

I think he benefits spoilers myself, a style of fighting I can't stand watching and don't really appreciate. Holding and hitting, excessive clinching, elbows, use of the head are all illegal and make fights dull and scrappy.
