Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Nadal’s defeat leaves the door open for Djokovic to keep up his bid to finish year-end World No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings. Should the Serb win Sunday’s final, the battle will carry into next week’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.Haddie-nuff wrote:PrayCAS wrote:What does Novak have to do now to reclaim number 1?

Then why quote me.... ??
My personal feelings are I would rather Rafa was not number one
He plays better when he is the hunter
So frankly I dont care if Novak regains it.

No we only make finals in the masters, we don't see it as a reputation mark in the CV and hence we will tank on the finals.JuliusHMarx wrote:Still no Masters then?invisiblecoolers wrote:Next year I see Del Potro reaching that ultimate number by winning the Australian Open, French Open Wimbledon and USO .Born Slippy wrote:Good win for Ferrer. Will need to play even better against Djokovic. Interesting that it keeps YE1 technically open. Can't see Rafa going 0-3 against that group though.
It does look like Novak is going to keep himself reasonably close to Rafa in the rankings though. May well have a chance to get the spot back at IW next year.

I still don't understand how next monday rankings will be. does djokovic drop 1500 points this monday or next monday??
if he wins tomorrow he would be number one for one day? or for the whole week?

The Pray remark was quoted to clarify the Rankings. I should have quoted the KR/L777 chain in my Fangs post, which would have avoided confusion. about that.Haddie-nuff wrote:Then why quote me.... ??

I'm there on Tuesday, both sessions. Pure luck of the draw, got my ticket months ago...Nadal vs Ferrer in the afternoon, Fed vs Novak in the evening. About as good as it can get for me, can't wait!laverfan wrote:The WTF group A is easier, IMO, compared to group B especially given the O2 surface.
Group A - Nadal, Berdych, Wawrinka, Ferrer
Group B - Djokovic, Federer, Gasquet, Del Potro
Nadal, Ferrer v Djokovic, Del Potro (more than likely).
I shall, of course, be reporting back to 606v2 about the whole shebang...

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Federer still has a bit left in the tank but clearly the decline has set in good and proper (and a chronic bad back is part of that). I can't write that guy off though, but I'd certainly go Del Potro or Djokovic for the ATP finals title. Despite being a massive Fed fan, I'd like to see Del Potro claim top prize because he is a nice guy who, imho, plays the game how it is meant to be played on these faster surfaces.
Nadal is very likely to end the year as WN1 and as much as I loathe the sucker, and what they have done to modern tennis, he has deserved it.

I loathe Djokovic, (admire his tennis), BUT it would never occur to me to call him or any other player a sucker.Leonard777 wrote:Federer still has a bit left in the tank but clearly the decline has set in good and proper (and a chronic bad back is part of that). THEY have all played their part in their own way in changing the course of modern tennis. HE didnt do it on his own. I would also suggest that their will be many youngsters who will evolve in the future that will try (if not succeed) in becoming a "little Rafa"... and so it will go on. God knows I hope we never have a "little Isner"

I see after moaning at the crowd in the 3rd set, Novak made an effort to win them back by knocking with Ibrahimovic.

HM I "appreciate" him as a player.. but humility is something he would never understand. I once believed that Roger was the most arrogant of players (all things have changed he has softened in his advancing years and been usurped in that department by none other than the ex world number one)HM Murdoch wrote:Haddie! It's interesting that some view Fed as very arrogant despite just about everyone who knows him or has worked with him saying the opposite.
Also some view Rafa as arrogant because of his on-court behaviour (didn't his mother say she didn't recognise him on court?) and the
attempts to e.g. change to a 2-year ranking for his own benefit.
Djoko doesn't seem particularly arrogant to me - the odd shirt-ripping incident maybe - bit I think we should forgive anyone their immediate post-GS win/loss reaction. If anything he seems quite needy for appreciation, not arrogant.
"little Isner" - surely to be Isner, you can't be little

Opinions differ about everyone.
Why do we like some personalities, actors, presenters more than others .. instinctive analysis.
I know many who share my opinions and you can say the same.
Of course what is absolutely true is there is no "little" about Isner...except his game.

Maybe it's instinctive analysis, but I think we have to recognise that out instinctive analysis is probably less accurate than that of people who know them, work with them and play against them.

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
I've been more disturbed with Djokovic's family than him over the years. I witnessed personally some truly horrific behavior by them in the box a few years ago in Cinci. I thought Djoko while having his moments, did well given the example they set and what he surely grew up in. However, I was pretty disappointed in DJokovic yesterday. It's surely tough to face a French crowd rooting for Federer and even Djokovic yelling at them can be excused as they were trying to disrupt them.. Some of his smirking when breaking Federer, imploring the crowd to cheer for him at bad moments for Fed was very poor. The worst was when he broke Fed for the last time in the 3rd set and the players were crossing paths to sit down during the change over. Just as Djokovic passed Federer he started waving his hands at the crowd in a "ha,ha, I beat your guy" way and started barking at them.. He was rightly booed. It just showed a complete lack of respect for Federer- which Federer does and did not deserve. Djokovic kept barking at them when he sat down. The match was won, the day over, the elder Goat vanquished. Show some class Djokovic.[/quote]

Ok but if I should agree to that ... bear in mind it applies to Rafa tooJuliusHMarx wrote:Maybe it's instinctive analysis, but I think we have to recognise that out instinctive analysis is probably less accurate than that of people who know them, work with them and play against them.

I have to agree about Novak yesterday.
I didn't care at all about what he did in Madrid because that crowd was just crass.
But the crowd yesterday seemed pretty fair. When Federer was on top during the first set, there were chants of "Nole, Nole". They just seemed to be cheering for the guy who needed support.
And the support Fed was getting in the third seemed pretty polite. They weren't booing Novak (at least I couldn't hear any), they were just trying to rally Fed. I don't know why Novak was so peeved.

Yes I agree. I believe he's a genuinely nice guy off court, and there are probably a fair few other players who aren't. I don't even mind his on court manner, although I think he's changed to become more surly ('snarly'?) over the years, which is less 'likeable', for want of a better word. The only think I really don't like is the time between points and also there are other players whose style of play I prefer, but that's just aesthetics. And on clay, I actually prefer his style of play, because IMHO that's how clay court tennis should be played i.e. the more physical game.Haddie-nuff wrote:Ok but if I should agree to that ... bear in mind it applies to Rafa tooJuliusHMarx wrote:Maybe it's instinctive analysis, but I think we have to recognise that out instinctive analysis is probably less accurate than that of people who know them, work with them and play against them.
The main thing I don't like about Djoko is the racket smashing and again the time between points, but I don't see much arrogance about him. Djoko bounces the ball about 13 -14 times - I've tried doing that before serving - it's just incredible that someone should need to do that - it takes forever!

I really can't cheer for Ferrer. I can't even bring myself to tryJahu wrote:Lets all cheer for Ferrer, hes finally kicking ass at ripe old age. No one wants Djoko to win Paris, except his dad and a couple of his fans.

Yes you can Julian... you know you want to... I'll be hoping the umpire has a good game.

Nobody watching?
Djoko was behind but won the first set 7-5, now he's 6-5 up and has 2 match points on Daveeed's serve.

@Jahu.. I thought people would prefer a clean thread for the finals. I could have merged the two.
