Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Federer - kohls was a very bad match, Fed was less than half his standards yet Kohls screwed up the match.
In 2nd set at 2-2 Fed played some stunning tennis specifically those defenses from the backhand was majestic, but outside that very ordinary match from both men, unless Fed gonna raise his standards it could be 4 in a row for Del Po.

Very possibly invisible. And Delpo will certainly be full of confidence right now.
Although ...... Federer was in very average form for most of Basel but then raised his game somewhat for the Final v Del Po, and it was a close-fought battle in the end.

So if Gasquet and Rafa win this evening we will have the odd situation of the Paris quarterfinalists being the 8 WTF entrants.

If Nishikori had a decent serve he'd have cracked the Top 10 by now. He's such a clean and consistent ball striker but that serve really lets him down - poor power & placement.

So WTF QF it is. Amazing given the normal shock nature of Paris. Suspect Fed will beat DP tomorrow but all the other matches look fairly heavily weighted in favour of the favourites.
Really should start betting on tennis. Would make a killing.

Federer beating Del Potro, and Djokovic is a tall order at his age, even for GOAT (of some kind).naxroy wrote:paris will see the last nadal federer final

I am not saying as a Del Po, I clearly see no chance of Fed beating Del Po, I would be happy if it happens coz I wanna see the Fed magic once again, but boy oh boy Del Po gonna run with both trophies .

And it's a pretty fair bet that we will now see yet more synchronicity with the top four seeds making the Paris semis.JuliusHMarx wrote:I bet that's never happened before. Meanwhile...... a really great line-up for London, though disappointing not to have the Wimbledon champ there.

Quite excited for Djokovic-Wawrinka. If these two are both on it will bring the house down.

It's been a very good match up this year! Interesting to see them in a BO3. Stan won two of the first three sets in New York, let's see if he can repeat it here!kingraf wrote:Quite excited for Djokovic-Wawrinka. If these two are both on it will bring the house down.

Federer is moving incredibly well, this must be what he meant when he said he couldnt do what he wanted on the court like he used because of back issues, he is gliding. I was beginning to forget how graceful he was in this form! Every time I accept he wont be a contender anymore he comes and gives us all that little dose of hope doesn't he?!

Good win for Fed.
Sky Sports have just said that this is the 15th consecutive year that Fed has beaten someone in the top 5.

I didnt see the match, so no idea how it went? was it a bad match from Del Po or Fed outplayed him with his magics? coz the previous matches suggested nothing of those magics from Fed and he was really struggling.

I only saw match point, but they said Fed played extremely well in the first set, Delpo did well to get back into it, then neither played their best in the third, but Fed was a bit mentally stronger.

No chance, huh? :-) All time Champs always have a chance...... To answer your other question- Federer was moving beautifully today.. Still some up and downs, but overall he's trending into a great form. I didn't quite believe him either, but maybe he has been telling the truth that his compromised movement from the back + the resulting loss of confidence was all that was holding him back..invisiblecoolers wrote:I am not saying as a Del Po, I clearly see no chance of Fed beating Del Po, I would be happy if it happens coz I wanna see the Fed magic once again, but boy oh boy Del Po gonna run with both trophies .
I suspect he would have much rather beaten Delpo last week for the Basel title instead of extending a long run at Paris with the WTF in a few days, but this is still a great victory for him.

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
He played superbly baring one bad game at 5-4 in the 2nd set, before that he had only lost 4 points on serve and was well into every Del Potro service game, but almost of out nowhere he dropped serve and it became tight, his slice caused DelPo all sorts of problems, he used it far more than he did in Basel, volleyed extremely well too. Great performance all round baring that one game in the 2nd set that got Delpos foot in the door

Re: Paris Masters - Day 6 (Updated) - Mens Singles
Yeah, Fed looked very good today. High quality hitting from both players, very engaging tennis. It was particularly nice to see him moving well, and being willing to stick it out at the back rather than pulling the trigger too early. 36 winners to 22 UEs, was something like 17-4 in the first set; not too far removed from vintage Fed in style and execution. Delpo did very well to extend it to three.
Novak though, was something else in his first set too. If they both replicate that form in the SF, it could well be a match of the year candidate!

I did not expect to be able to watch Fed play tomorrow morning. What a nice present. Will try to catch some of his today's match later tonight too.
Good luck for tomorrow, but I expect Novak will be harder to crack than Delpo - probably too hard.

I know why the year was difficult for me. It’s not because I can’t make a forehand anymore or can’t move. It’s because I had physical injuries, and I still played in spite of the injuries because I’m not going in a corner and wait for four months.

when does nole lose his 1500 points from last years WTF? after or before london?
if it is before, there is no chance he regains number one even if he wins and nadal loses the semis
am I wrong?

Yes, it very much seems to be. Kind of funny, Roger is always oh so diplomatic and careful but he manages to get these little digs in. I suppose, in spite of well managed images, under the hood there is no reason why these guys should like each other any more than Connorses, McEnroes and Lendls of old.laverfan wrote:This sounds like a innuendo at someone who was out with injuries for several months.
The article takes the view it is likely a dig at Andy, but I think it was more likely aimed at Rafa.

As I understand it, you are correct. I believe WTF points get dropped before LDN, and Nole cannot overtake Rafa in Paris.naxroy wrote:when does nole lose his 1500 points from last years WTF? after or before london?

Hmm... Personally I'm not so sure summerblues.summerblues wrote:

It could have been aimed at Rafa, but more likely Andy IMO ; or, quite possibly, neither.
I can't recall Fed ever having taken any sort of unpleasant swipe at Rafa, whether veiled or otherwise. Although not the closest of friends, they always seem perfectly happy in each other's company on & off-court and have of course spent lots of time doing promo & charity stuff together etc.
With Andy, however, there is a certain amount of history. I happen to think that Federer believes Andy has never quite given the due recognition/respect that a guy who has won Slams for year after year after year, whilst holding firm at the top spot, truly deserves. Plus, the remark did specify 'four months' after all.
But that said, it could well have been more of a generic comment anyway. The implication being ..... I may be one of the oldest guys on tour but I try to battle through pain & injuries whilst competing as much as possible through every season. If that means setting myself up for an increasing number of defeats now that my form is no longer what it was, then so be it, I won't hide .........
naxroy : what an amazing run by Rafa, when you see the sequence set out like that ......

I don't think Roger's comments are aimed at anyone. Of course he's not going to 'sit in a corner and wait for 4 months'. He's 32 years old. If the injury was bad enough and he was 25-26, he'd probably take a different view.
Much as I love a bit of trash talking, and I wish he was aiming his comments at Andy AND Rafa, I genuinely don't think he is.

Early break for Federer! Very sloppy from Novak so far though. There's something about Federer on the other side of the net that makes his serve desert him.

But Federer could do without any more DF's. They were as rare as moon dust for most of his prime years.

He can afford them if Novak carries on like this! Four DFs already!lags72 wrote:But Federer could do without any more DF's. They were as rare as moon dust for most of his prime years.

The psychological match up here is fascinating.
Novak has been playing with such confidence since USO, he faces Federer for the first time this year and looks terrified!

Indeed. He has been leaking so many cheap errors. I do not understand why though.HM Murdoch wrote:Novak has been playing with such confidence since USO, he faces Federer for the first time this year and looks terrified!
