For a bit of fun. drinkers 15?

Not intended to start a fight - just a bit of lighthearted fun.

So with James O'Conner in the news and Phillips can we find a full world 15 of players who have made drunken fools of themselves?

Andy Powell obviously has to be captain. Has anyone ever done better?
Phillps at 9. Quade Cooper at 10, Mike tindall and Manu Tuilagi in the centres James O'Conner - can he play full back?
Dan Parks on the bench.
Who else?

Kurtley Beale, Zac Guildford .. I'm noticing a theme with the pretty boys in the backs here ..

Gavin Henson has to be in the centres.

Danny Cipriani could be at full back.

Phillips could move to flanker with Danny Care at 9.

Andy Kyriacou at hooker

I don't know about this at all.  Very suspect.

James O'Connor is too baby faced to be a drinker...and more likely to be a different breed completely - the very common, and overly indulged, closet non-drinker who can't hold the little drink he does get!

A genuine drinkers 15 Vs a 'doin' it to toughen up me image' 15 might give a bit of drinkers respectability to this thread

Zac Guilford is a cracker. Apppearng in a bar naked and bleeding and then gets into a row

I have no clear recollection of the events of that night but there is no doubt that my behaviour was unacceptable and I am hugely embarrassed by what happened.

Guys, Craig Gower puts all the names mentioned thus far to shame.

Gower has been involved in a number of alcohol-related off-field incidents. In 1999, Gower exposed himself to a female Irish tourist in a Coogee bar, blaming his behaviour on alcohol intoxication. He was dumped from the Kangaroos squad and fined A$2,500 by the NRL and a further A$500 in court after pleading guilty to indecent exposure.
In December 2005, Gower was fired as Panthers captain after incidents at a charity golf event where he argued with several guests, groped the teenage daughter of former league player Wayne Pearce, chased Mitchell Pearce with a bottle before vomiting on him, streaked nude around the resort, stole and crashed a golf cart, held a butter knife ^[17] to the throat of a Sydney radio personality before throwing it at resort guests, and engaged in a brawl with resort security before being ejected from the official function and detained by police.^[18] Gower was handed a "final warning" by the National Rugby League and fined A$100,000, with A$90,000 to be paid to an NRL programme encouraging the responsible use of alcohol by league players and $10,000 to replace the destroyed golf cart. Gower was "deeply unhappy" that the Penrith Panthers club did not defend his reputation, and at one stage threatened to "walk" from the club.
Allegedly inebriated with alcohol in a bar at Kings Cross on 11 February 2007, Gower allegedly tried to kiss one man before biting him on the neck and sparking a brawl, and is accused of assaulting another man. The Panthers club controversially reappointed Gower as captain in 2007, claiming the Peppermint Lounge incident was just a media "beat-up". Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser said Gower was unfit to be captain, due to his alleged lewd behaviour at the charity golf event which she attended, and Sarah Maddison, spokesperson for the Women's Electoral Lobby, said "reappointing Craig Gower would send all the wrong messages."

Jason Leonard never made a fool of himself, but rumour has it he could put away an unholy amount in his pre-professional days.

I've heard Jared Payne puts away a serious amount as well, but unlike the names mentioned above he can handle it and remains dignified regardless of how much he drinks.

SF has a point, genuine drinkers are very different to the "I'd be on the pavement every Saturday night fighting a chav if I wasn't a rugby player" brigade who we have mentioned so far!

Reading that about Jason Leonard does not surprise me one bit

I'd assume some of the Munster guys could handle a few kegs and still come out....................... fighting and fisting and head butting!!!!

No seriously, some of them strike me as guys who drink a lot more than some of the crowd mentioned earlier and would still keep the golf buggy within the legal speed limits

Its no fun if they don't embarrass themselves after a few this is a team for herberts who have too many sherberts and end up looking like fools. Preferably nothing that gets folk really hurt as well

Scott Hamilton, a policeman friend of mine found him staggering around after a night out dressed in an "amusing" manner and cracking jokes.

Tindall yes of course - Manu? none of the 'high profile' stuff he has done involves alcohol as far as I know. Could put MP into the centers and bring in Care at 9

I thought Manu was teetotal?

Colin Smart has to be on any drinkers list.

Oh yeah - Manu diving off the ferry. Cant help feeling that diving off a ferry drunk is a good way to an early grave. It was never mentioned in the coverage that I can remember and he does seem more than capable of silly stuff, dangerous or otherwise - without any need of any 'help'

Cannot believe that anyone is looking beyond JPR Williams at 15 to anchor the team until last orders. Drinking ligind. Allegedly, of course.

Norm Hewitt ex All Black hooker fell through a glass door or something like that after having half a dozen too many. Had to apologise on live TV and cried like a little baby girl.

Willie John McBride - as the captain of the Lions team who apparently got so drunk that they started fires in their hotel and when the hotel managers came and told McBride that the police would be called McBride told him "tell them to bring plenty."

Cipriani is no drinker! He drinks Soda water and archers! Gareth Steenson loves a pint...

Manu wasn't drunk either!!! Sober as a judge he was a naive 19 year old doing a dare!!

Somebody should tell that kid to perk himself up.  If he wants to become a Hellraiser of renown, in the Richard Harris, Richard Burton, Oliver Reed vein, then he better be drunk when Hellraising!  There are rules and guidlines to all this stuff...it isn't just off-the-cuff.

Wasn't that how pretty much all of the amateur era was played oh the joys lol.

But Chris Wyatt played in the pro era - this was during Graham Henry's reign as Wales coach.

I watched the Mervyn Davies (Merv the Swerve) documentary a while back on BBC2 Wales. Gareth Edwards was talking about the Lions tour to South Africa and showed them sitting round a swimming pool drinking and smoking, wearing flares and big collared shirts, aviator shades, and generally looking like porn stars. Merv was apparently in charge of drinking, and there was no hiding place - everyone had to get on it - lthough the backs tried to get out of it and hide apparently. Good lad Merv - went on to be a very good school teacher!!!
