LIONS RAW
My copy just arrived on blu-ray (the version with all 3 tests and tour hilights)
Anyone else watched it yet ? I'm up untill the eve of the first test (Mrs wanted to watch TruBlood )
Very impressed so far, good unity and banter in the squad

The Zebo phone call was very funny. Also the extras on the second DVD are really interesting.

Re: LIONS RAW
Just finished watching the main DVD, haven't got to the extras yet. A bit disappointed to be honest. It was well produced (in terms of camerawork/quality etc) and I think they covered the drama of the last test quite well but with the exception of a couple of little funny snippets, was pretty bland. Probably just the nature of professionalism and there being a limit on how much you can show these days but it just didn't have any access to the difficult selection meetings, team nights out, conversations between players etc that have been a highlight of previous documentaries. Not terrible by any means and maybe some of this is on the extras but it was just a bit vanilla.
On an aside did anyone think one of the opening scenes when they were talking about selection for the tour party was rehashed, probably once they were home and realised they didn’t have any footage of it? Seemed a bit rehearsed and rushed to cover the controversial selections but might just be me being a cynic!

Re: LIONS RAW
Its going to get less and less 'fun' as tours get more professional.
Saying that, there did seem to be a lot of camaraderie despite them being there just to win.
The Extras are pretty decent - lots more behind the scenes stuff

Re: LIONS RAW
The dvd also puts all the "Gatland hates BOD/irish" to shame as well. Because he clearly says (about BOD) to the entire squad before the 1st/2nd test "If anyone in international rugby deserves this, it's him".

Re: LIONS RAW
I enjoyed 97s Living With the Lions and it seemed natural - but not watched one since. Clips I have seen from various places of later tours suggests everyone knows the cameras are there and play to it.

Re: LIONS RAW
Lydiate really shocked me with his speech. Was brilliant to see him like that.
It's a good DVD. Not really funny so much. Kind of wish they hadn't given away the Zebo phone call, as that would've been even better to watch as a new thing. Rob Penney seems a nice bloke though.

Just on second test. Obviously saw on the sky thing how passionately Warburton spoke before the first test, well he did a good job for the second too.

Re: LIONS RAW
Having just watched the third test, they do a good job of selling it so dramatically. There's a lot more I'd liked to have seen like watching them training (weights and on the pitch), as well as more of the funny stuff. I guess there's more on the extras.

Re: LIONS RAW
Sam Warburton's new book is due out soon and being previewed/serialized in Wales on Sunday this weekend. I have no details at all on what is in it and would not dream of asking those I know, but the newspaper blurb in todays Western Mail is interesting and it looks to be about the Tour and captaincy.

Re: LIONS RAW
Pretty disapointed TBH, the one in 2009 was a much better DVD. Possibly because of the access to the difficult selection meetings and of course Geech giving the rousing speeches.

Re: LIONS RAW
It's actually going to be a motion picture starring Sly Stallone as BOD, Russell Crowe as Gatland and Timothy Dalton as Howley. Really looking forward to the now infamous coffee scene....The Saint wrote:When's BOD's book about being dropped?

Re: LIONS RAW
Mickey Rourke is making a cameo appearance as Gareth Thomas because it doesn't look like the movie about Gareth will be made now. And Rourke has already done all the groundwork to make himself look exactly like a 30something year old player, so the producers didn't want to waste the footage.
