International Squad Get Togethers.
Has anyone got any information on how long each international squad spends together during a Callander year? I was listening to a podcast yesterday, where greenwood talks about Nonu only signing for the Blues because SBW decided to stay in league, he mentions that the All Blacks now will have complete control over his game time!
Got me thinking do Southern Hemisphere teams spend more time in camp than Northern Hemisphere nations??

Re: International Squad Get Togethers.
Interesting.
Looking at England, the minimum is:
5-6 weeks as a team for the Autumn Internationals
7 weeks for the 6 Nations
4-5 weeks for the June Internationals
So, if there is no other training, England squad regulars are together for between 16 - 18 weeks. Cripe, that is a lot.

Its just because he wont be going overseas now. Not sure what it has to do with being in camp.

Nothing Taylorman
I was just wondering if the southern Hemisphere nations benefit from playing their 4 nations and Autumn tours Back to back and then also get game time together in the summer.
The SH Nations will have been together for probably more than 16 weeks by the end of the QBE's. Put on a month for the summer friendlies and there getting 20 weeks together!!!
With NZ having only 5 teams and the top boys in the 5 teams spending 20 weeks together a year it's no wonder they play like a club side!!!

Re: International Squad Get Togethers.
The ABs are never together December through May, so thats 6 months theyre doing something else. They have the 3 test series, then had a short break till the RC, then a couple of weeks off till the AIs. Are the NH sides together from now through till the end of the Summer tours?

Re: International Squad Get Togethers.
Taylor, in the north the national teams come together in three distinct blocks:
The 6 Nations, together in most of February-March
The June Internationals, together from end May (pending club playoff commitments) through June
The Autumn Internationals, together end October-November
So, the overall schedule looks like this, and is a big problem for the clubs and the national teams:
Club season starts mid August (France) or early September (UK, Ireland)
The Autumn Internationals, end October-November
Clubs again December-January
6 Nations February-March
Clubs again April-May
June Internationals
Break for 6 - 8 weeks.
And if you add in the fact the clubs go back and forth playing their leagues and the European Cup virtually in parallel, no wonder everyone's head is spinning up here. No continuity at all. And we wonder why every team, club or nation, seems to under-perform?

Re: International Squad Get Togethers.
I'd deffo be interested in how a global Callander would look.. 6 nations during July - August followed by away/home tours against SH teams. Prem and Europe between December and June with no break..... Wouldn't work....hmmmm
