Was it right that England marked the 10th anniversary of winning the RWC on Saturday?
IMO it was a little early as the 22nd Nov is the true date, I didn't have a problem with it (never miss a chance to wind up an Aussie) but I didn't like seeing the Webb Ellis cup being paraded as NZ are the current holders, that was just wrong.

Yes, but you should have done it on the actual anniversary- or more feasibly on the test match closest to the anniversary which your test against New Zealand. To move the celebration forward to coincide with the Australia game was a bit cheeky, although I'm sure it wasn't intended as such.
Of course, parading the WWE cup around when New Zealand came to visit would have also been quite surreal given they are the current holders.

Why not, they were playing the Aussies again and it was a good time to do it, they can keep doing it as well if they like, because I cannot see them wining it again any time soon.

Hey, each to their own.
If they want to do it, why not?

I wouldn't say it was overly cheeky; it actually coincided perfectly with the date that Australia beat England at Twickenham to take the 1991 World Cup. There were a couple of those blokes there too (Michael Lynagh & Tim Horan).

The RWC2003 final was purely incidental as a way of getting a game up & running to raise money for charity. Good on them I say.

They can do a lap of honour with it after the NZ match, in spite of the final result.
The two teams met and a match was played to raise money for charity between some of the players who played in that final. Hardly think that smacks of insensitivity or arrogance. Seemed a good way to promote last Saturday's game and I got to see a fatty run the width of the field praying for someone to either tackle him or support him.

Parading the World Cup when they haven't held it for 10 years reminded me of that lap of honour at Manchester when they'd just lost to NZ.
Delusion and denial - they're powerful things.
Like that hilarious time England wore black to a World Cup in NZ. <laugh>

I dont see why not. Not quite as bad as having a long running musical about your greatest victory.

Was the first time England had played in Manchester and they were saying thanks to new fans for turning up. The next week those same players put in one of the finest performances against what many say was the best AB side of the pro era.... which wasn't bad considering what happened the week before and where they were on their journey.GloriousEmpire wrote:Parading the World Cup when they haven't held it for 10 years reminded me of that lap of honour at Manchester when they'd just lost to NZ.

Humility in victory, grace in defeat. Head in sand in Manchester.

When 60,000 people spend £80 a ticket to go and watch you its only right they say thankyou for turning up to the crowd.

I just hope England don't spend too much time looking back at glories past and forget to build momentum for the future. I get the feeling that that has happened in soccer (harping on about 1966 etc), and I hope it doesn't happen in rugby.

It was just a bit o' Marketing and a bit of fun. Marking the 10th anniversary of one of England Rugby's biggest ever achievements when both teams were playing each other was fine. Doesn't need to be the exact same date. Was nice to see the old boys walking around Twickenham. Teams should celebrate their success.

Refs have off days like the rest of us, just as well it was only a friendly and not a 6 Nations decider!GloriousEmpire wrote:Clancy sure did that.fa0019 wrote:When 60,000 people spend £80 a ticket to go and watch you its only right they say thankyou for turning up to the crowd.
But as ever the world keeps turning, move on fella.
