I think he did.

That final saw some brilliant tennis by Novak and also some mental walkabouts.

The walkabouts have not gone away. The difference is that post-USO he has been able to dig himself out of trouble. In the USO final though, Rafa played brilliantly almost from start to finish, punished every lapse and didn't allow him back.

Novak has not faced a performance of such excellence since then.

Djokovic has been playing some scary stuff but he has still lost sets. The scores in his matches since the US show it hasn't been a cake walk. I've been wondering how he will be affected now that he has lost the year end number one. He kept referring to how he thought he could still regain the YE top position and that might have helped him focus. Once again Rafa has topped him. I know it's not the same because after all the FO is the "holy grail"   ( by mikey  ) but he didn't do so well after losing there after telling everyone who would listen he was going to win it.

Fed's volleying has been good. Sometimes the real reaction stuff saved him after a poor approach or drive volley. You can tell he learnt to volley in the 1990s. It really shows.

So far Nadal, Warwinka and maybe Djokovic have been at the highest level for me. It's a decent match but these 2 are a little lower. I can see Rafa in the final.
