I wasn't really expecting him to say anything to be honest. If you've not got anything useful to say then you might as well just give the same bland answer that the other players give, i.e. it's on the players , not the coaches. He's not going to kid anyone on that Shanahan has done a great job this year when we're 3-10.
Cousins has more reason than most to hate Shanahan now.... it's not going to be pleasant playing in 3 meaningless games behind that nightmare of an O-Line. Assuming of course that Cousins is put in. Reckon I would switch off the rest of the season if that happened. Would be the final insult.

Not sure this is Shanny trying to urine off Snyder. RGIII is not 100% and he is supposed to be the future of the franchise. Why play him in 3 meaningless games? Cousins needs to be in the shop window so we can get picks for him in the offseason and get back some of what we lost in the RGIII trade. It makes sense.
Whether it means Shanny keeps his job is another matter. Everyone is talking about bringing in Art Briles, but the guy is an unknown quantity at the pro level and only has a 78-59 record as a college HC. There have to be better candidates, even if he did want the job.
I reckon if Shanny stays beyond the 1st week of the post season, then he's staying through to the start of next season. He'll then be on a performance scenario - start winning and get an extension, start losing and you're out.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread IV
Stupid decision by a stupid and petty HC. All this does is humiliate and alienate Griffin. If you want to keep star players healthy for OTAs cos this season is done then why stop at Griffin? What about Morris, Garcon and TWill?? All these guys are just as important to our chances of future success as Griffin so why not protect them too?? If you single out one over the other then you're alienating him and opening the door for the other players to feel resentment towards him cos he somehow is elevated above them.
If Shanahan isn't doing this to humiliate Griffin and get at Snyder and it really is about protecting Griffin then he's basically admitting that in 4 years he's failed to build an O-Line that is capable of keeping a QB upright. Either motive is therefore reason enough to fire him. I wouldn't do it yet though - I'd make him suffer through the rest of the season like rest of us.
Stupid, stupid, stupid decision.

I'm sorry the protecting RG3 excuse is pure crap. Matt Ryan will be playing Sunday. This is purely about forcing Snyder to can him an pay him 7m

Absolutely GSC, nothing at all to do with health. We're supposed to believe that the guy who sent Griffin out on one leg against Seattle in last year's playoffs and who let him start in week 1 following offseason surgery to repair a torn up knee is now so concerned about his health he's going to bench him for the "good of the franchise"??Please! Shoulda tried that one a year ago Mikey. This is all BS.

Some mind-blowing stats taken off of the nfl.com website that deserve a remention:-
1) Since 2000, when Bill Belichick took over as the Patriots head coach, New England has the best winning percentage in the NFL in December.
2) Josh Gordon leads the league in receiving yards and yards per reception despite missing the first two games of the season.
3) Matthew Stafford is 1-22 in his career against teams that finished the season with winning records.

This weekend, Jay Culter will probably start, Aaron Rodgers will possible start, RG3 won't play at all.
Russell Wilson has been drafted by the Texas Rangers.

So the Chargers beat the Broncos, give themselves a chance if making the playoffs and the Patriots and Chiefs a shot at the 1st and 2nd seeds.

Guess this means the Texas Rangers have the best QB of all Texas sports teams.

I can't be the only one wondering why Bill Belichick isn't a stone Waller for coach of the year this season?!

Because he isn't remotely the best coach in the NFL this season? Andy Reid, Marc Trestman, Mike McCoy and Chip Kelly have been better.
I even think Doug Marrone is under appreciated but I'll let you have that one.

C'mon NYJ I know I might have been a bit overboard, but he's done a better job than McCoy (the Chargers are basically the same as under Norv, throwing games here there and everywhere), Trestman (The offence is much better than under Lovie, the defence is much worse) and definately Marrone.
In fact I'd have Rex Ryan above those guys.
I'd say only Kelly is doing a better job out of them than Belichick. I'd say Sean Peyton would be mine if I took my biased goggles off...

Phil Rivers is a stick on for comeback player of the year and that's down to Mike McCoy. He's implemented a system to make the most of his skill players and mask the weak OL. The Chargers are competitive in every game and will make the playoffs IMO. Marc Trestman has made his offense viable with Josh McCown at QB. No, he's not suddenly became the best thing since sliced bread, he's a product of an excellent scheme.
Maybe I'm looking at one phase of the game too much but I think the impact of those coaches are greater than that of Belichick's (this season on the field, not as an overall franchise).
Rex is the best defensive coordinator in the league. Head coach? Meh, I don't mind him.

Can't see them making the playoffs. Need to beat Raiders and Chiefs and hope Miami and Baltimore go 1-2. Too much to ask I reckon.

Chargers lost to the Redskins.... That alone should rule Mike McCoy out of the running.

2-0 isn't implausible considering the Raiders aren't very good and they have beaten the Chiefs already this season.
Ravens face difficult trips to Detroit and Cincinnati plus the Pats at home (1-2 at best). Dolphins play the Pats, Bills and Jets (1-2).
9 games gets you the 6th seed in the AFC.

Rex isnt a particularly good HC. More in the Norv/Wade category of great coordinators. Id be surprised if Snyder/Jerruh didnt get into a bidding war this offseason
