England v New Zealand match thread
First topic message reminder :
2.30pm at Twickenham on Saturday.
Betfair has england 5:1 against. Sounds about right to me.
Are NZ wearing black this time? I hope so. don't think France or anyone else found the Haka quite the same performed in what looked like white gym T-shirts.
My prediction, fwiw (and i know that's not much), NZ to win by 6, england to dominate at scrums, lineouts 50:50, 60% possession England but Joubert tough (but predictable and consistent) on holding on means isolated possession gives NZ the scoring edge from penalties, and NZ classically more clinical with open/broken field possession.
Really looking forwards to it though.
Anyone going?

Robshaw and Duty!
I heard more hyperbole yesterday that made me laugh.
Not only did certain Kiwis state they were the best rugby team ever- there also stated there were the best sporting team ever!!
I am sorry they couldn't even come close to be put in Spains(football) bracket.
Spain is a team that won 3 major tourneys on the spin and within a sport where 200 nations play the game and 100 of them play it as there no.1 sport.
Silly Kiwis.. Rugby Union is only played seriously by a handful of teams.. (I am not trying to diminish this great sport- but just trying to add some perspective)

One thing is for sure, England will not allow the AB's as much room in attack as they normally get so I can see a very close game but with the AB's just edging it.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
Add me to the list.
IF we play with last Saturdays 1st half intensity for 80 mins from our pack and a bit of common sense from our backs (ie Farrell moving the ball with his hands a bit more and not his foot) then i think we could push them close enough to get a win.
Every cog must work correctly..ie forwards carrying correctly, quick ball, putting players through gaps etc...which we have shown we ARE capable of just very sporadic showings of it....
Its a big ask but hey there is a possiblity.
One things for sure...if the players walk out on the pitch thinking they'll get beat...THEY WILL. They need to go out saying they're just another rugby team...we can take this game to them!

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
I think the last time I recall us getting absolutely taken apart was Croke Park. So if we are clobbered it's not as if it hasn't happened before and it wasn't the end of the world. You learn a lot about who will and who won't in that situation and Joe Worsley went up markedly in my estimation. A very new Strettle, too.
And we might catch them cold. No matter what they say about being out to make a statement a hint of complacency might be creeping in and then who knows? If, as seems much more likely, we're on the receiving end of a tonking then I'll be watching to see who stands up in the broken places.
Fascinating game.

I liked what I heard Lancaster say the other day about England's recent record, especially at home. It's not just the All Blacks who'll be defending an unbeaten run tomorrow.

I know.
How about distracting them after dinner tomorrow night with a Mexican band playing an up tempo version of "Better Be Home Soon"?
This will play on their minds for sure... after the heavy defeat of their All Black football team.
Then, it's just figuring a way for Betsy the Maid to get into the hotel rooms and carefully sprinkle the itching powder.

England to win 33-28 - 4 tries to 3 in favour of England.
We'll just score more!
What's on the menu? Chile peppers for tonight, New Zealand lamb for tomorrow afternoon, then Frogs legs for the evening.
En-gerrrr-laaaaaaanddddddd!

Don't get me wrong from my earlier posts. I sincerely hope England win and I expect us to win every game. We do have some key players missing for this game though, and a pretty raw midfield.

i was watching Monsters University with my boy yesterday, and 1 line in particular caught my attention...
overconfident monsters says "after you lose, no-one will remember you"
underdog (undermonster) replies "but when you lose, no-one will let you forget it"
so i understand why all the AB supporters are bricking it

Well I'm nervous. Excited but nervous nonetheless. The injuries are a worry as is the "motivation" that NZ have for this - not that they need that in reality. BUT.. I always think that England are at their best against opposition they fear (no disrespect or arrogance to anyone else intended) and that they will die trying tomorrow if that's the way it needs to be. As someone else said - if England fail tomorrow let's look for the players who stand up to be counted and let's learn from the experience.
Anyway time for a drink I think - haven't got any Kiwi beer (hard to come by in Worcestershire) but we may have some Kiwi wine to down.
Come on England!!
