England v New Zealand match thread
First topic message reminder :
2.30pm at Twickenham on Saturday.
Betfair has england 5:1 against. Sounds about right to me.
Are NZ wearing black this time? I hope so. don't think France or anyone else found the Haka quite the same performed in what looked like white gym T-shirts.
My prediction, fwiw (and i know that's not much), NZ to win by 6, england to dominate at scrums, lineouts 50:50, 60% possession England but Joubert tough (but predictable and consistent) on holding on means isolated possession gives NZ the scoring edge from penalties, and NZ classically more clinical with open/broken field possession.
Really looking forwards to it though.
Anyone going?

No disrespect to crowded house and all. But if we are musically the allblacks, NZ are the vatican city in comparison

Think we should tart up the anthem though TBH.
Something like:

Nah, The Boss is from down the shore - near the beach area about 50 miles south of here. But Giants Stadium and the Meadowlands Arenas are his adopted venues. A few summers ago he filled Giants Stadium for 6 or 8 nights, a Jersey boy to his boot laces. Sometimes just shows up in pubs and bars where bands are playing and jams. Interesting guy. Bon Jovi is similar.stub wrote:Good choice - and from your current town too?doctor_grey wrote:England, Land of Hope and Glory.

Seem to remember a player saying that, after the All Blacks loss in 1993, Neil Finn turned up in their dressing room and played a few songs to ease the pain.
Not sure if either side has lined up a minstrel to fill the same role for tomorrow.

Don't really know the Geography too well but visiting a friend in Ridgemont, NY (I think) in Feb so might have a bit more idea after that... I saw The Boss in 1984 in Roundhay Park in Leeds when I was 14 or so. Far cry from those venues and Asbury park etc but great fun!doctor_grey wrote:Nah, The Boss is from down the shore - near the beach area about 50 miles south of here. It's a great crowd we are going with. All lads I have met watching Bath at the Rec over the last few years. They know their beers. Haven't been invited to an international with them before so feel very honoured that u was offered a ticket at last minute. The bloke who has pulled out is about to become a grandfather tomorrow morning.
How times have changed, in the old days even your wife's funeral wouldn't get in the way of an international ticket...
Anyone have any ideas of a good pub to shout them dinner after the game?

The only rugby pub I know in Twickenham is the Bluch which was good a long time ago!
Never tried the food but the beer/banter was excellent,

Fondest memory: South Africans adding cream to some sort of Irish Cream drink to make it longer... We were waiting for a heart attack...

enjoy the game Maes. am jealous you are going. i will be retreating into my man-cave to watch it alone, fearing and expecting the worst, but hoping for the best.
can't get as excited as you about exciting rugby. all i care about is a win. i would rather win extremely ugly than lose very pretty.

When you impartial to the result it's not so antagonising. The atmosphere is always better with a home win. Good luck England, reading the press today I think they'll need itquinsforever wrote:enjoy the game Maes. am jealous you are going. i will be retreating into my man-cave to watch it alone, fearing and expecting the worst, but hoping for the best.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
I'm feeling horribly conflicted. Can't believe we're not starting Ben Youngs or that our backline is still such a confluence of ignorance and stupidity and why oh why is Goode in our 23???
However all this apart I am desperate for an England performance and wish one and all the games of their lives.
Finally, as an aside it struck me last night how much this game has been looked at in isolation. Given that we play a further 3 tests at the end of the season it will be fascinating to compare the team selections come June.

Have to disagree. Why waste perfectly good whisky (of the single malt variety) on Bailey's? Mutton dressed as lamb is still mutton. Do you add whisky to your appletini as well?stub wrote:Gotta say, IMO that is the correct tack!mystiroakey wrote:Lol I add whisky to my baileys to take the creamy edge of it!

Stub my point is mate don't order it. It's creamy poopie. It's like being set up on a blind date and asking what does she look like and getting she's got a wonderful personality. Abort! No avoiding the bare naked truth: it's not worth your time. Just order a real drink!

Kia - I think you've got me all wrong! I don't order it - these were big burly South Africans who had the baileys and cream habit! I was just agreeing with Mysti that if you're going to add anything to baileys adding whisky is more sensible than adding cream.
Just felt I had to clear my name there - didn't want anyone to have the image of me enjoying this afternoon's match with a nice bottle of Irish Cream...

Over here its great because the ladies love it. Buy 'em a few rounds of Bailey's with a wee whisper of whisk(e)y or vodka. And all to play for. Not a blokes drink, unless you are already paired off with your selected female choice for the evening. Then it becomes acceptable to show you sensitive (sic) side.
