England v New Zealand match thread
First topic message reminder :
2.30pm at Twickenham on Saturday.
Betfair has england 5:1 against. Sounds about right to me.
Are NZ wearing black this time? I hope so. don't think France or anyone else found the Haka quite the same performed in what looked like white gym T-shirts.
My prediction, fwiw (and i know that's not much), NZ to win by 6, england to dominate at scrums, lineouts 50:50, 60% possession England but Joubert tough (but predictable and consistent) on holding on means isolated possession gives NZ the scoring edge from penalties, and NZ classically more clinical with open/broken field possession.
Really looking forwards to it though.
Anyone going?

I heard somewhere that performing a one on one Haka for them can have the most remarkable results. Maybe you could try that?doctor_grey wrote:How about if we turn it to how to get the kiwi ladies drunk and willing after the England victory?stub wrote:This thread has taken a bit of an unfortunate turn!

They showed the scores of the previous NZ England games from 2004 to the present

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
I was watching 1983 Twickenham as an antidote. Blimey, that doesn't wear well as a spectacle. Can't find 1993 online, which I recall being a tastier confrontation, especially after the losing Lions series. Jamie Joseph's indiscretion on Bracken's ankle sticks in the memory. If Matt Mullan has to come on, hope he does even half as well as Nigel Redman in that game, who was also a late call-up.mystiroakey wrote:They showed the scores of the previous NZ England games from 2004 to the present

Well, good luck to the English boys today. It will not be a shock if they win but I cant really see it. Funny thing is though, if England had a full strength team I would say they would be favourites at home today.

Right I'm off. Good luck England fans. Good luck NZ fans. Good luck both teams.
Let's hope it's a high quality game that lives up to its billing and the best team on the day wins.
Go you rampaging unstoppable All Blacks.

I think we can be confident that Lancaster has the team in a better mental frame of mind than I am looking at the game. He's top notch at that sort of thing. It's asking a lot to get lightning to strike twice, but he's putting up as good a conductor as can be found, I think.
Nonetheless. I expect I'll be watching a lot of this from between my fingers. But there IS a chance.

A real shame England are missing soe key petrol. With the I feel the game was in the balance. Without them will probably win.

Ok England fans, what is an effective 'win' for you?
A good performance immaterial of the score
a close loss
a draw
or a WIN only!

I'm finding this Rugby League quarter final between Australia and USA is an unsatisfactory way of counting down to kick-off at Twickenham.

I have started to appreciate Rugby League. Its actually entertaining, well except for the scrums which seem totally pointless.

Good luck guys!
For me, I want an 80 minute performance. We're not there yet to demand a win, so I can accept a narrow loss.

If England can keep their discipline but compete physically then they will certainly push the AB's.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
True but I do think that under SL, England are a lot fitter than before and will play hard the full 80. Gone are the days when England would switch off and allow sides like the AB's run away with the match in the last 20mins.
As an Irish fan, I am not looking forward to them playing this England.

Would love to agree, but the last two games we've only put 40 performances in. We're in with a chance if we can finally put in 80 minutes.Nachos Jones wrote:True but I do think that under SL, England are a lot fitter than before and will play hard the full 80. England always up themselves for SH teams, especially the AB's. Going to be a very interesting match.

Well according to Hansen they're fit and well, have trained well, and are looking to straighten their attack lines from last week. Team has been buzzing for this all week.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
England want to build a fortress Twickenham but will it be like a Jimi Hendrix song and end up being another Castle in the Sand or can they build on the fortifications of last year?
Grey, freezing, rainy day in Madrid. Perfect rugby viewing weather.
May the better team win.
