England v New Zealand match thread
First topic message reminder :
2.30pm at Twickenham on Saturday.
Betfair has england 5:1 against. Sounds about right to me.
Are NZ wearing black this time? I hope so. don't think France or anyone else found the Haka quite the same performed in what looked like white gym T-shirts.
My prediction, fwiw (and i know that's not much), NZ to win by 6, england to dominate at scrums, lineouts 50:50, 60% possession England but Joubert tough (but predictable and consistent) on holding on means isolated possession gives NZ the scoring edge from penalties, and NZ classically more clinical with open/broken field possession.
Really looking forwards to it though.
Anyone going?

As the commentators have been saying this game is all England forwards vs All Blacks backs. Brilliant game, super response by NZ.

Just shows what a moment's carelessness or inattention will do against this lot. Another mountain to climb, but now I believe they might climb it!

Nathan I absolutely agree only Morgan of the subs has benefitted the team....
Hartley has to be number 1 again. This game has shown how important the lineout still is and Youngs is a massive liability there...

Lawes has been Englands man of the match. Hes been immense...and everywhere...and he's one of the only England lads still going when the rest are starting to look out on their feet...

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
Well, England can take a great deal from this. I think the team will be very disappointed not to have won and I think it's really our own mistakes at a few key points in the second half that have cost us. A performance of real character and one to give genuine hope for the future.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
Aw I don't think Tom Youngs has cost us. But it certainly highlights just how essential your hooker can throw well...
Poor decisions in our backs has been very costly and tiredness playing at this level has hit in.
But its great experience for our lads...now they know what they must be able to do..80 mins at this intensity...
Im proud of them today...
Well played AB's...

One thing is sure- England are getting better each month since the last WC, NZ for me have remained stagnant.
At the rate we are improving we could overtake them soon

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
You'd think that Parling and Youngs would have been in better synch in the lineout.
Still around a forty minute game from England. We picked up midway through the first half and started to lose control just as we'd taken the lead.
Better performance than I expected but the disappointment is just as strong because we looked like we might have the visitors rattled at some point.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
Reads been immense, player of the year for me. Saveas come straight back from where he left off. Brilliant offload from Nonu. Good that we can win matches like this.
England fought well after the initial shock start. They need to get their correct backline back and working.
Good effort and character from both teams to show a lot of character.
ABs one more to go to have a 100% record...the gap remains...

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
The AB's got a scare there!!! But their quality and id say fitness came through in the end.
The pack is really getting there...but our backs are a major concern...and our subs...the team weakened dramatically when he started subbing...

We did rattle them, it was a good performance for where we're at. People need to keep in their mind just how good this all black team is.Rugby Fan wrote:You'd think that Parling and Youngs would have been in better synch in the lineout.

Better use of subs and Manu back in and I think we would of won.

Re: England v New Zealand match thread
great game. huge effort by both sides.
england should only get better from here given injuries and youth of side.
england look much more ponderous and predictable with youngs/flood than dickson/farrell?

Well done New Zealand - deserved win. Very happy with the England performance. Gave them a game anyway!
Need T Youngs to learn how to throw at a line out consistently.
Really enjoyable game to watch.
