Agreed, Pienaar slows the ball down, for his own team unfortunately.Biltong wrote:How the hell Meyer sees anything that can help SA in Ruan Pienaar is beyond me.
If you look at the dictionary for the explanation of the word pedantic, then there is a picture of Pienaar.
It frustrates me to no end seeing this guy at the back of a ruck.

Yeah, I agree we controlled the game well, but Ruan's error at the end of the first half took away the oressure we had prvided on the scoreboard.Taylorman wrote:but he's so good for Ulster Biltong...thats the main thing.Biltong wrote:How the hell Meyer sees anything that can help SA in Ruan Pienaar is beyond me.

Thought the Boks controlled play well actually and something needs to be done about these pitches. This one looked like the plough mailfunctioned and when manic. You cant play test matches with that kind of footing.
Then his chargedown was so predictable, it was uncanny.
He kept the French tails up by virtue of his poor play.
I thought our defence has improved a lot, sadly the try due to Ruan was the only try we conceded on the tour.
Willie le Roux is fast becoming a vital cog in our backline attack. He has an eye for a gap and the burst of speed to go through.
Two tries disallowed showed we had more opportunities and control than the French, but the scoreboard was far too close.

How so? both tries could easily have been awarded by another TMO, could have been a 27-10 game.ME-109 wrote:Well if you are talking about an arm wrestle then you are correct. If you are talking about a rugby game then.....I don't think so.VinceWLB wrote:Scoreline flatters France.

I'm not going to defend him. Nothing would please me more than having Pienaar available to Ulster full time!
You are being a bit silly to lay the blame solely at Pienaars door for the chargedown mind you- there was no guard at the fringes of the ruck.

ME, I see you and quinsforever have turned your attentions from Wales to SA for one night. I'm quite proud to be supporting the 'back-to-back' champs . We'll see you in the 6N and let's be honest, the signs are ominous after for you lot after your sound beatings by Australia then New Zealand (which will be handed out tomorrow).

Notch, I don't want to blame Pienaar, but hell he has been poor for us.
Our whole attacking game depends on quick ball, but with him there we just don't get it.
I don't know exactly what Ulster's gameplan is, but we need quick ruck balls.

Unlucky France
Thought it was a bit harsh on Domingo though, i thought it was just a good tackle. Overall the saffers are just a great team and have a very bright future with that team.
Also i have seen a lot of people criticise Flip Van Der Mewe in the past but he has been the best lock I have seen out of all the teams in the Autumn series.
His work for a man of his size is unbelievable and he is great in the line out, i would like to see how many oppositions line outs he has turned over this Autumn. I know everybody is on about Eben all the time but this man (in my eyes) has completely out classed him this Autumn, maybe he is growing not the international scene.

I thought Pienaar had one of his better games in the Bok Jersey. He was slow but not his usual dithering at the back of the ruck. And he did attack the line from the ruck a fair few times.Notch wrote:I'm not going to defend him. Nothing would please me more than having Pienaar available to Ulster full time!

You're right, Flip has been the unsung hero in the pack this year, he slowly but surely improved this year, and he was really just a stopgap due to injuries.Jhamer25 wrote:Unlucky France

Re: France vs South Africa chat.
Good game control by SA. Felt so relaxed watching, early try helped....
Coenie came through so well, scums and carrying he was a big success. Line outs were iffy and having 2 No4 locks is showing but seems that Flip is maturing.
Not too many complaints about the ref, Frances try was as debatable as SA's so thought SA were unlucky not to be given one of them but not surprised that they denied as I wouldn't have been if France also had their effort denied.
Onwards and upwards for the Boks and AB's. Looking forward to next season.
Hopefully, PSdT will get more time, Coenie starts taking JdP's starting spot, F Steyn comes back in shape and switched on, Goosen has an injury free season and Botha too.

Nope. Pape would then get a yellow - the right answer is to do what Denton did - laugh in his face. Winding up oppoinents to get them carded is something that all teams do. Ever watched Cusitor at work for Scotland? Re: France vs South Africa chat.
Charge downs are a fact of life in today's rugby. Test and sxv is littered with tries from them. Carters let them in more than once nd two were scored today. Fact is you have to take that crucial time to execute the kick and for some of that time assume there is time or that the blocks are there. Pressured defences mean they'll keep coming.

Thanks for that Fern, I was wondering about downward pressure.
Luckily for us it didn't matter as to the outcome of the ame, but would certainly have changed the pressure situation in the game.

The guy has the x factor for sure on the break.. but thats if he's playing wing like when Du Preez was at the bulls.
He is slighty better then bergamasco as a 9.

I personally think Hougaard would be a better wing back up to Habana than at scrumhalf.

Probably the 10th choice scrumhalf IMO. Real eye for the line though... like a young habana but once his pace is gone... thats it. Although we thought that about Habana mind (but it did take him 3 years to change though and the coaches put a lot of faith in him when he wasn't delivering).Biltong wrote:I personally think Hougaard would be a better wing back up to Habana than at scrumhalf.

Re: France vs South Africa chat.
Hougaard has pace and a wicked sidestep . Yes he cant kick but as long as he's being allowed to run the ball and bring the line in to play from 9 he's magic . I'm a bulls fan and i can assure you when he's not kicking he's a joy to watch . Its a shame he got injured and didnt play this year, a real shame because this would have been his make or break season . Both him and Pienaar dont have the kicking game to match Fourie Du Preez but i'd much rather fast scrummy with dodgy kicking than a slow one with dodgy kicking (ruan Pienaar)fa0019 wrote:Probably the 10th choice scrumhalf IMO. Re: France vs South Africa chat.
Bullsbok, Meyer stated this week what he wants from a scrumhalf.
Intelligence, a player that can control the game, use both feet to kick and run the game.
That is not Hougaard, if he wants to be a Bok he is going to have to either learn skills he doesn't possess, or become a wing

It's odd to still see so many SA players who seem to have been around for ever! Guys like FDP, Habana and Pieterson must all be about 90 by now!
What's happening with that Bulls wing Bjorn Basson? Wasn't he meant to be quality?

Basson is still good, but I think his tackling is not better than Habana or Pietersen's. His work rate is also not as high.
Also Nokwe was also supposed to be so good, but I think the reason they stood up was more the fact that Habana went through a bit of a dip.

Basson is very poor on defence, I can't see him getting many call ups unless there are a lot of injuries
