David Price signs promotional agreement with Sauerland

SAUERLAND Promotions have announced the signing of British heavyweight champion David Price. The Liverpool fighter had been looking for a new promoter following Frank Maloney's decision to retire after Price lost two consecutive bouts to American Tony Thompson earlier this year.

"This year hasn't been a great year for me at all," said Price. "Whatever decision I'm making I'll take my time and then something will happen. I got a text from Kalle [Sauerland] and we had a meeting. I knew straight away this was the right thing for me to do."

The Sauerlands plan to keep Price active over the next 12 months at venues around Europe. Price, alongside new trainer Adam Booth, is expected to make his first appearance for his new promoters next month.

"It's our first major UK signing and this is very exciting for us," said Kalle Sauerland of the "long term" agreement. "He's someone we believe we can guide to the world heavyweight championship and he has the tools to win the championship. Also, David is a genuine person with the type of character to become an icon."

Sauerland admitted he found it "odd" that Frank Warren had bid to secure Dereck Chisora's domestic shot at Price and they would make a decision soon about the British title.

"He won't be fighting household names," he explained. "I'm buzzing about this signing. He has all the ingredients to become a champion."

Price admitted that he finds the thought of fighting away from the pressure of Liverpool appealing. In the short-term, anyway.

"I'm not going to go missing," he said. "I'm going to have this world tour, learn some new things and come back a better fighter."

So David Price is going to run from Del boy, shame on him. Kalle Sauerland knows there is money in heavyweights and i feel will keep him under the radar until the Klitsctko's retire or as long as possible . Bye bye for now David...

Sounds like he is off to Germany to fight some nobodies. He really doesnt come across as a guy who can handle pressure. He wont even risk fight nobodies in the UK now.

Good move from Price.

Warren clearly cashed in the bid to get Del Boy and himself some money on David.

let him go abroad under a great promotion team who work with K Bros, Kessler etc.

Get some fights as co main events to some big fights. I mean, you have Huck, AA, Wlad, Vit, Mikkel, Helenius all working under that banner so will be great exposure for him.

hopefully it does him well and we can see him in a couple of years back in the UK to punch that gypsies face off.

You don't need to go out of your way to call Fury a gypsy.

Fury ALWAYS refers to himself as a gypsy and always bangs on about his roots and how hard he and his family are.

Its like calling me an Englishman instead of Callum.....

If Price comes up short he can spend the next few years fighting europes top prospects for decent money. should get a full time living for the next few years, so smart move. will be a cross between danny Williams and tye fields.

Depends on context, calling Fury a gypsey with a negative connotation attached to the word gypsey is offensive just like calling someone a nigerian is not offensive unless you are calling them a nigerian with a negative connotation attached to the word nigerian.

nope it was intended to be nigerian but it could have been indian or french or argentinian etc etc

It is possible to critisize a fighter without getting into writing about their race, creed or breed,

Probably the best thing for price right now. He obviously felt the pressure fighting in front of his home crowd. If he can't relax where nobody knows him then he's finished so it's a make or break move. You do get the feeling that had a fought chisora in his next fight then his chances wouldn't be the same as if he had two or three wins under his belt. Risks getting the ducker tag thrown at him on here especially but for me as long as he is just putting it off for a year I'll let him off in these circumstances.
