Andrew Hore Joins Big Phil Vickery
First topic message reminder :
The great moustachioed legend of the NZ front row, Andrew Hore has moved on to the afterlife. The rugby afterlife that is, not the actual one.
Sadly many fans in this part of the world will remember him most for his premature clean out on Bradley Davis, who fell awkwardly and became concussed.
However Hore was a great servant of the NZ front row, excelling in the loose and acting like an additional back rower. In some countries his World Cup winning contribution would undoubtably have been rewarded with a knighthood. He will be sadly missed in the All Blacks front row, (the 10th best front row in the world according to Sgt Pooly. )
It will be interesting to see how the All Blacks front row is rebuilt. The law "interpretation" changes seem to have thrown a curve ball to All Blacks plans.

Re: Andrew Hore Joins Big Phil Vickery
Despite suspecting that this exact firefight is what GE was looking to incite with this thread, I agree with him here. Everyone makes mistakes and in the heat of the moment people do stupid and even nasty things. If there is just one isolated incident, like here, it's unfair to claim that this is their character. Many highly regarded rugby players have done some things they won't be proud of and to break down a retiring International's entire career into a single incident doesn't make sense, especially as most people on here will have defended at least one of their own players involved in a similar one-off incidentGloriousEmpire wrote:He "likes" to do it? Do you have some more examples? Or are you just basing it on the one time? I'm pretty sure that most forwards have had a disciplinary glitch in their careers. Take Bradley Davies himself for example.englandglory4ever wrote:Can't get past the fact that he is a nasty coward who likes to attack from behind. It goes alongside the infamous BOD incident where he was taken out by the Nz captain and an accomplice. Nothing done about it by anyone. It wasn't even televised they were so ashamed of it. Doesn't really endear you to them does it.
Not sure how it has anything to do with the "bod incident" unless NZ were playing two hookers that day. Hore wasn't even in the squad. Just a rubbish comment.
Tana umaga was one if the finest All Blacks captains and recipient of the international fair play award.
Can't believe you guys can be so ungracious about a retiring legend. It's pretty shocking and not really showing much of the old rugby ethos to be honest. Makes me wonder if you have ever actually played or if you're just a sad wannabe armchair warrior.

Well said CJ. I wasn't looking for a firefight at all. I'm genuinely surprised as that response.
I only acknowledged the incident in the op so that I wasn't accused of brushing it under the carpet. It was reckless and unnecessary and the consequences were fairly unforgivable.
But the guy has put in a good shift, and accomplished a lot. How about a modicum of respect?

I suspect the lack of respect is squarely toward you for using a retirement of a cracking player to incite our Welsh cousins...GloriousEmpire wrote:Well said CJ. I wasn't looking for a firefight at all. I'm genuinely surprised as that response.

Oh so now we can all legitimately go around praising every nasty thug of a player that ever walked the planet. As long as you don't break someone's arm illegally too often then you are a 'legend'. Nothing wrong with praising rock hard players that play within the law. Christ we'll all be saying that Dylan Hartley should be knighted soon for his services to fair play.

Re: Andrew Hore Joins Big Phil Vickery
perhaps not 'fair play'...but maybe he'll get a WC winners knighthood down the line??
And since it wouldn't be for 'fair play' that would be fair play?

Haven't we all praised a player that's acted thuggish occcasionally. As long as we don't brush it under the carpet and just say the opposition player has fallen awkardly after a cheap shot it's fine. Oh, scrub that just read the OP again!

Re: Andrew Hore Joins Big Phil Vickery
Did Davies fall awkwardly though? I thought he'd hit his head and pretty much knocked himself out on the ground? If that's not what happened then feel free to correct me. I realise it was the swinging arm that caused him to go down in the first place...not trying to brush it under a carpet...

forget the controversies and just say... Here's to you, Hore.
As everyone knows, we all harbour players who have played below themsleves on the dirty-play front on occasion.

I've never really liked the man as a person and Keving Mealamu has always been better than him anyway.
He might have achieved great things but i will remeber him as an @ss hole. Thug and a poor baby seal killer.
Goodbye, you won't be missed

Interesting the double standards here. For instance, red card punch happy captain Martin Johnson, (http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/johnson-faces-red-card-from-rfu-6333419.html)
Was hailed as:
"A Courageous Warrior Who Just Had to Win" ( http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-2062444/Martin-Johnson-A-courageous-warrior-just-win-aged-10-Peter-Jackson.html )
And celebrated carrying out the same act here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZJxekUbtJQ as "A grizzled world cup winning captain who 'let fly'"
According to English club Saracens, he was let off "because he was the England captain" http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/english/1814551.stm
Wow. Lucky none of you guys lauded this despicale thugs retirement then.
Interesting stuff.

Yes he poached Davies very well, i wonder who will poach him and what he will do when he isn't poaching?GloriousEmpire wrote:The great moustachioed legend of the NZ front row, Andrew Hore has moved on to the afterlife. The rugby afterlife that is, not the actual one.
