Q: What does £150 buy you today?
A: ticket to RWC final 2015.
Ticket prices and match times being announced now.
Really looking forward to it. If the poms can do anything, it's run a sporting tournament. It'll be completely first class I'm sure.
Excellent news on the very reasonable pricing, especially with some pool matches at just £15

I'll be going to a few games for sure. Including the final. The missus knows not to count on my attention, presence or acknowledgment of any non rugby related matter during this time.

Some of the top level pricing for the pool matches looks a bit off to me.
I'm also intrigued to know why some bright spark thinks they can charge £125 for the best tickets for Wales vs Oceania 1 (Tonga?) when there were empty seats for the Boks game.

At least one!
You can't really complain guys - you were the ones saying how the RFU/IRB would make such a great financial success of hosting the RWC. So really, this is how they do it, right? Charge quite a lot of money to go watch it?
To be fair for £750 you could just about have flown to NZ to watch the final.

Ticket heaven or hell?
Best value: A ticket to see the Springboks, the world's second best side could cost you just £20, great value. There are other hidden gems as you can see the wonderfully unpredictable Argentina for a similar price. And if you are a child, you are in for a cheap World Cup.
Worst Value: Italy versus Europe 2 at Sandy Park could cost you as much as £85 with a similar pricing structure on offer for the Azzurri's game against Canada. England's versus against Oceania 1, Fiji or Cook Islands, is also expensive with tickets ranging up to £315. If you want to see the home unions then it's best to get saving.
200,000 tickets are under £20 and around 1.3million are over £100
The ticketing structure has been announced for the 2015 World Cup with adult prices ranging from £15 through to £715 for a seat.
England kick-off the World Cup against Oceania 1 - likely to be either Fiji or the Cook Islands - on September 18 at Twickenham with the cheapest adult ticket priced at £75 which will get you a Category D ticket. The prices then increase up to £315 for a Category A ticket.
England's matches against Wales and Australia have the same ticket prices and both will be held at Twickenham but Stuart Lancaster's men will also journey north for their other pool match. England play at the Manchester City Stadium on October 10 against a play-off winner with adult tickets ranging from £50 to £250. All of England's pool matches kick-off at 8pm.
Tickets to watch the World Cup holders New Zealand range from £50 through to £175 with Wales and Ireland available at a similar rate. Scotland's tickets are slightly cheaper with their games taking place at Elland Road, Kingsholm and St James' Park with prices ranging from £30 up to £175.
Child's tickets are available from £7 for 41 of the 48 matches.
For the World Cup quarter-finals, tickets start at £85 and go up to £250, with no child rates on offer. Semi-final tickets, with the games taking place on October 24 and 25 range from £125 to £515.
And the final, which kicks-off at 5pm on October 31, sees prices range from £150 through to £715, the dearest ticket in the World Cup.
The 2.3million tickets will go on sale in 2014 with travelling fan packages available from January 1, 2014. Hospitality packages then go on sale from February 2 with those who are part of rugby clubs getting a chance to buy theirs in May or June in 2014.
The application process for general tickets begins in September 2014 with tickets then fully available in November or December. Matches which are over-subscribed will see the tickets go into a ballot.
"We want the tournament to be a celebration of rugby, encouraging more people to support and enjoy the game," England 2015 CEO Debbie Jevans said. "We have a range of ticket prices for every budget - for fans and families who want to come to one of the world's greatest sports events.
"Our ticketing programme is built for fans who support the game week in week out, whilst encouraging a new generation of rugby fans through Rugby World Cup 2015."
IRB CEO Brett Gosper added: "This announcement represents a fantastic opportunity for fans around the world to experience what promises to be a very special Rugby World Cup. It is the day that they can start to plan. There are affordable and accessible options to suit every need."

So the only people who can afford to watch England play are the home counties brigade? RFU are really working hard to address the class divide/issues that put a lot of people oop north from taking up or watching the game. Its disgraceful.

Have a closer look at the prices for the pool games, not many at £15. Had been really looking forward to the tournament as was going to come down from Scotland for quite a few games but won't be able to afford many at those prices.GloriousEmpire wrote:A: ticket to RWC final 2015.

Excellent news on the very reasonable pricing, especially with some pool matches at just £15
They are running the risk of poor attendances and poor atmosphere at the stadiums like a lot of the games from the 99 tournament.
Surely they should have looked at France 07 where ticket prices were very cheap and they filled the stadiums and had great atmospheres and same with Australia in 03.
Going to prevent a lot of real rugby fans going at those prices and can see a lot of the people going to games as part of either corporate/business trips or people who will go just to be seen and not really be interested in the rugby a bit like what Murrayfield can be like on occasion.

A successful world cup would be full stadiums and good atmosphere at the stadiums and attracting people to the sport. Will that happen with the prices for tickets they have issued? Probably not?

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
i think there is quite a lot of experience of how to run a commercially successful sporting competition in England, probably more so than any other country in rugby to be fair. i hope and bet that if there are games where attendance looks poor, they will do something creative to try to get more bums on seats and maximise revenue.
unfortunately ticket prices are what allow England to guarantee £80million to the IRB after IRB got much less from the world cup in NZ. Can't really blame the RFU. If the IRB wanted less money, then ticket prices could have been lower.

Actually I think you'll find the two are unrelated. I actually don't think the prices are too bad. What is £750 for the privilege of watching NZ become the first side to lift the Web-Ellis consecutively?

at least there will be loads of accommodation options though Geoff, especially as its fairly easy to get to all the games with a bit of train travel. i've been to some events where the accommodation options are 3-4 times their normal prices as everyone tries to cash in and gouge the sports tourists.geoff999rugby wrote:At those prices I'll think I'll pass.

Hmmm, cheapest ticket to see Scotland play South Africa is £50 & the same for Samoa. A bit on the steep side that. Also who in their right mind would play £150 to see Scotland v Samoa????
Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
Do you all want a WC or not? Events of world stature cost money. Or else they are just more games. You're paying for the privilege of being at a WC event that might very well be remembered as a world classic....if you're lucky! And good luck to Scotland and Samoa with that one.
But it's payment for privileges folks.... price always goes up when the ticket becomes more valuable and I assume WC games are.
What did we expect? A tenner with a free tee-shirt?

I don't suppose theres any chance of the organisers doing deals where if you went to all of your countries pool games for instance you could buy those tickets as a bundle deal and save some money?

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
Not always they don't. The world cups in Australia and France had very reasonable ticket prices for games and they got full stadiums and great atmosphere at the tournaments. I'm not expecting totally cheap tickets but certainly I would expect a lot more reasonably priced tickets than what they are charging. I've been to a lot of different sports events all over the world and the UK is by far the highest priced for going to see a sports event.SecretFly wrote:Do you all want a WC or not? The olympics they got away with expensive tickets as it was a once in a lifetime event but a rugby world cup isn't. I would love it to be a successful tournament but I can see a lot of the games being poor crowds and atmosphere due to the cost of tickets added to the cost of transport, accomodation, food & drink which a lot of people won't be able to justify!

Its a shame the cost of hosting the 2011 RWC in NZ is being passed on to the 2015 RWC, I guess thats why its in Britain after all as they know we are used to being ripped off.
Empty stadiums are going to do nothing for the game.

'My' season ticket seat at Kingsholm seems to be going for £65 for the RWC Group being hosted there.
I have no expectation I can 'bag' my seat, but I would pay the £65 for this once in a lifetime experience.
Having said that, actually twice in a lifetime.
1991 The Shed Kingsholm ~ £15 I recall, to watch the ABs stroll comfortably past USA Eagles.
Some Kiwis behind me were noisily bitching out at their 'lazy' players out on the paddock.

Per the RWC website they are going to offer bundles for all the pool games for a side, so for me to watch Irelands 3 games in London with my son will be from £200 upwards.
They are also promising that each rugby club in England will get at least one ticket to the final allocated, although I'd assume that most clubs will auction/raffle/Ebay theirs to raise money for the club.
Once the tickets have gone to the "tour operators", "corporates" and then the clubs, I'd expect that some of the lesser group games may go on sale at a discount, especially those involving sides outside the 6Ns and SANZAAR, but given the stadium capacities some supposed top games may be hard to sell out as well - Ireland V Europe 2 at Wembley, Australia v Oceania 1 at Cardiff, there's a good chance that some of the London/Cardiff based games may not sell out - England at Twickenham V anyone being the exception.
There could also be sales issues with dead rubbers at the end of the group stages - Argentina V Africa 1 at the Crisp Bowl for £85 anyone?

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
It's a shame that Britain has the habit of blaming everyone but themselves for their failings. Little surprise. We've already heard how the tournament in 2011 was rigged, and devalued and how NZ should never be allowed to host a RWC again. The British commentary team couldn't contain themselves even at NZ's moment of triumph, with the presenter suggesting that NZ's RWC was pitifully small and would be dwarfed by the astonishing spectacle England would provide. Such lack of grace, is what probably earns the title of "World's most arrogant". Personally I think the NZRU might've been on to something when they suggest they wouldn't bother showing up in 2015. So appalling has the attitude been, that they're probably right.Scrumpy wrote:Its a shame the cost of hosting the 2011 RWC in NZ is being passed on to the 2015 RWC, I guess thats why its in Britain after all as they know we are used to being ripped off.
Empty stadiums are going to do nothing for the game.

Does the expense of renting out the soccer stadiums have something to do with the rediculous cost of the tickets?

Keep up with the thread mate. The cost is entirely due to the RFU bailing out the IRB after they were almost bankrupted by the disasterous decision to host a rigged World Cup in NZ.LeinsterFan4life wrote:Does the expense of renting out the soccer stadiums have something to do with the rediculous cost of the tickets?

not just the NZ. it's 2019 in Japan which the IRB have also taken a much lower revenue guarantee.
no-one's blaming anyone GE. i see no reason why a small nation like NZ shouldnt be able to host the RWC, even when Australia votes against them being awarded it.
