Q: What does £150 buy you today?
First topic message reminder :
A: ticket to RWC final 2015.
Ticket prices and match times being announced now.
Really looking forward to it. If the poms can do anything, it's run a sporting tournament. It'll be completely first class I'm sure.
Excellent news on the very reasonable pricing, especially with some pool matches at just £15

They have the most experience being battered to a humiliating pulp by us at home.quinsforever wrote:not just the NZ. it's 2019 in Japan which the IRB have also taken a much lower revenue guarantee.
no-one's blaming anyone GE. i see no reason why a small nation like NZ shouldnt be able to host the RWC, even when Australia votes against them being awarded it.
Hardly surprising.

Didn't realise Aus voted against the RWC in New Zealand. Was it because of less revenue?
Can't understand another reason. Anyone remember what happened?

Pretty sure Japan had to promise £120M compared with England's £80M

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
don't know why they didnt vote for NZ. the kiwis were pretty upset about it though. 2003 had its issues too - originally it was meant to be a shared NZ - Aus RWC, but NZ dropped out after there were some disagrements about something to do with money or advertising. Maybe 2011 (which was awarded in 2005) was influenced by 2003?

pretty sure the goalposts have moved since 2008. they got £80m from england. would be hard to imagine japan guaranteeing more given the small fanbase and participation there. but i havent been able to find the concrete number.

I am also p....d-off abut the times. OK, I can stay with a sister, but lots of Welsh fans will find an 8.00pm kick-off a real pain as not much hope of getting back to Wales that night short of special trains or buses. I still bet enough will get there make as much noise as the low swinging corporates. Do other Home unions get an allocation?

Wales matches prices range from £ 50 to £ 150.
Wales have struggled to fill the stadium for the AI's recently ( except for AB's game ) with prices ranging from £ 25 to £ 75. There are usually £ 75 tickets available.
Wales v Australia this Saturday price range £ 25, £ 40 and £ 75 ( from memory ! ) with £ 75 tickets still available on general sale last week.
Wales v Australia in RWC 2015 in Twickenham £ 50, £85, £ 125, £ 250.
Rugby league openign match at the Millenium recently was very reasonably priced and only got about 40,000 - don't think it attracted the general sports fan even at reasonably priced tickets from £ 20 to £ 50 ? ( again from memory )
Looks like my 13 year old daughter will be going on her own : - (
Maybe there's going to be huge inflation between now and then. or maybe the stadiums will have empty seats. And they will all be live on TV ?
Argentina v Tonga priced from £50 to £150 in Leicester - not a particularly wealthy city ? can't see anyone going to see that, apart from the local Tongan and Argentinian community. All 6 of them.

i am sure Wales v Australia in the RWC group of death will sell out whatever the ticket prices compared to AIs (considered friendlies).Bluedragon wrote:http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/ticketing/prices/index.html

Argentina v tonga does look a worry though, although far few seats to fill compared to MS and HQ.

Actually tickets for that game, & the game in Leeds against Americas 2, are priced as follows Cat A £85.00, Cat B £65.00, Cat C £35.00 (£15.00 kids) cat D £20.00 (£15.00 kids)21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:So Scotland play Asia 2 at 2.30 on a Wednesday afternoon Gloucester and they can charge £85 (minimum). So in theory £20 cheapest, provided they aren't sold out by the time tickets go on general sale...
Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
But how many tickets will be at the category D price? Not many i am guessing!GLove39 wrote:Actually tickets for that game, & the game in Leeds against Americas 2, are priced as follows Cat A £85.00, Cat B £65.00, Cat C £35.00 (£15.00 kids) cat D £20.00 (£15.00 kids)21st Century Schizoid Man wrote:So Scotland play Asia 2 at 2.30 on a Wednesday afternoon Gloucester and they can charge £85 (minimum). I can understand high ticket prices for the big key games but for the lesser games the tickets should be far cheaper than what they are.
Even for a game like Scotland v Samoa which is cheapest adult ticket at £50 is a disgrace. We can barely get 30 thousand in the stadium for a
game like that when tickets are fairly well priced at Murrayfield but who is going to pay at a minimum £50 to then have to spend money to travel, possibly have overnight accommodation and whatever else on top of it!

And yeah £50 minimum for Samoa is far to much. Last time we played them (2010 at Pittodrie) there was a crowd of 18,000 odd. Wonder how many of St James Park's 52,000 seats wil be empty?

How do these prices compare to 6N's and AI tickets? Aren't most of those in the £30-£80 range?
There are always rich Muppet who'll pay the over the top prices for the best seats. The rest of us mortals will just have to pick and choose what we go to see, and sneak food and beer in to the stadium in our rucksacks!

Is £50 a minimum price for kids as well?GeordieFalcon wrote:Just checked minimum price at St james in Category D is £50!!!
Category A is £150-170. Utterlly appalling.
Rugby struggles in the North of England as it is, with so much competition from other sports. This is (was) a chance to get people into games and interested. The clubs could have used it to get more fans through the gates on a weekly basis. How many people are going to take a punt on a game when a family of four can expect to pay a minimum of £200???? (before the inevitably overpriced transport, merchandise, beer and food) As a sports fan I am SO tired of being gouged for money...

As a lesser mortal I hope for a shot at a group game or two at my home ground of Kingsholm.

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
i think thats a bit harsh. there are an awful lot of people who would love to watch england play in RWC. As the RFU report says, in England we have...
2,500,000 rugby players
2,000 rugby clubs
3,200 member schools
6,800 non-affiliated schools
200 colleges
130 universities
helped by 60,000 volunteers
only Twickenham will see lots of corporate hospitality, but what do you expect from a stadium in the world's financial capital? just because someone is a "rich muppet" as you say doesnt mean they aren't passionate about the game. there are an awful lot of Kiwis and Saffers in London these days, in addition to French, Irish, Scots and Welsh who can afford to buy their own tickets and care deeply about the sport.
i haven't seen any oiks at twickenham gregor. not throwing drinks anyway

Whinge. Whinge. Whinge.
I'd rather pay going market rates than stuff the burgeoning bank balances of the touts and official 'ticketing partners'.
This is the inevitable true cost of going professional. Black markets will always find a ticket for those willing to pay excessive prices. Best that the lions' share goes back to rugby.
That is the market economy for you. As it's not health, education or civil protection or anything, I'll just have to shrug my shoulders and watch the big games on the telly.

Quins
yes my last seat at Twickers was in fact doing some hospitality, Eng v Wales - the year England won. You didn't see me chucking my beer about ? I had a good day with the customers, and photo and chat after with Martin Corry (then retired). So I should not complain about hospitality perhaps.
But my last previous visit I paid for was AIs vs Argentina. My son and I were in the NE corner, low down behind the tryline, about a s good as it gets for normal punters. Our near neighbours chatted throughout and were constantly squeezing by for loo / hotdogs / beer. Not sure why they bothered to attend. England played in Purple and the event was turned into a Nike logo stunt. TBH we were pretty dispirited by the experience and I have not been inclined to buy tickets since, preferring the TV view in our rugby serious Gloucestershire local

Re: Q: What does £150 buy you today?
gregor, i've had a couple of experiences like that at Twickenham, but they tend to be friendlies not against top 3 sides or BarBars games where the tickets were easy to come by.
6N, and AIs vs SA, NZ or Aus are always pretty good, albeit a bit corporate.
I think RWC2015 is going to be a massive massive success. The expertise in ticketing and pricing in England at the moment is really good, so i have faith they are going to find the right balance between raising money for the IRB and RFU, filling the stadiums, and getting the atmosphere right on matchday. or maybe i'm just deluded

I hope so too Quins... that this is not a delusion. I'm open.. would love to get tickets.
On ticket availablity, I have never been able to privately buy a 6n or a SH top 3 ticket in modern times.
Well not since the unfashionable days of November 1983 when I (quite easily) acquired tickets through the club I played for to take my father in law to witness a rare England victory over the ABs. Boring game, with one try catch & drive from Maurice Colclough. I also think Mr Youngs senior played that day. But a rare victory and I was there !
