Support For Wales
Rugby seems to be a sport with an uncommon number of Hoodoo's.
There was the All Blacks managing to find new and novel ways to be denied their rightfully deserved world cup in 1995 and 2007. There's the way France always seem to pull out a decent game against NZ when everyone else is pounding them. There's Ireland's extraordinary ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against NZ, there's the Welsh Wait for a win over NZ stretching back nearly 60 years, and then there's the way England seem to manage to repeatedly deny themselves a 6N grandslam, even when it looks so certain that they've already made the video.
The latest evolving Hoodoo seems to be Wales v Australia. Wales at one of their strongest peaks in the professional game, and Australia approaching their lowest ebb ever (one more loss will equal their worst season in history I believe). Yet somehow, despite demonstrating they have the players, and the coach during the Lions tour of Australia, the Welsh record against Australia resembles the scooter park at Croydon Domino's L-L-L-L-L-L-L-L...
We here on 606 are a community of sorts, and communities are supposed to help out their constituents during the Dark Times. I remember what it was like going back a few years when NZ held the choker tag, and believe me it felt bad enough as it was without having every punter and his dog leaping in and twisting the knife.
So I propose that should Wales fall inevitably short on the weekend, that we maintainan a WUM free environment. We should discuss the positives that Wales and Gatland can take away from the match. We should consider seriously any grievance with a referee over specific incidents and not adopt a mocking tone. There's simply no one-up-manship to be had in heaping any kind of derision on top of what would undeniably be the agony that the long wait for the chance for redemption goes on for another year.

"Should Wales fall inevitably short"
Makes no sense - either "they will fall inevitably short", or "should they fall short".
You can't have it both ways.
It's not inevitable anyway.
I hope...

Great point for picking that up! Yes, it's deliberately written that way.
I'm using this seemingly contrary linguistic device to suggest that if they do fall short, then historically it will be seen as "inevtiable" that it would happen; whereas it's easy to see from our current position that it is far from decided. Hope that clears it up.

I hope Wales rip them to pieces, otherwise it'll be yet another bleak AI series for the NH sides, notwithstanding England beating the Aussies and Ireland showing up against NZ.

all I hope for is a good fair contest and the match to be remembered for good things rather than ... oh forward pass, oh, holding on too long in ruck, oh foot in touch yes or no etc etc etc.

Yes, I do kind of worry that Australia might get the "rub of the green" this weekend, in that Karmic way that tends to happen, after having been so cruely dealt the hand of fate (twice) against England. Let's hope it's a clear cut game with no "tricky" decisions and that the best team on the day (which I'm confident will be Wales), win.funnyExiledScot wrote:I hope Wales rip them to pieces, otherwise it'll be yet another bleak AI series for the NH sides, notwithstanding England beating the Aussies and Ireland showing up against NZ.

The same - i do not really care that much about any other team except Scotland (and England when the misses is in the room), and will watch for the fun of watching rugby. If a player plays well, I will commend them, regardless of which country they come from - ditto the team.cakeordeath wrote:Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, as a Scotsman I shall be impartial on the day, and just hope for a good game of rugby.jimmyinthewell68 wrote:Irish, English and Scottish will be temporary Welshmen come five o cloak tomorrow . oh and Glorious Empire

I think AUS have had a bad year thus far and took a lot of beatings this year due to their internal problems. They have come back strong over the AI tour but I certainly don't want them to be crushed. I too am pretty neutral on this. I think AUS will sneak it. No A. Jones, Roberts and Davies... all key key players for Wales.

Re: Support For Wales
I don't care what people say about how poor Australia have been, and that Wales have done relatively well this year, beacuse when Australia put out a back line like they have done for this game then it will always be very tough. Not too sure about the strngth of the forwards (but you know they won't be weak), but this back line looks very tasty and they'll be coming up against a relatively inexperienced midfield:
Israel Folau
Joe Tomane
Adam Ashley-Cooper
Christian Leali'lifano
Nick Cummins
Quade Cooper
Will Genia
Ouch!

I think you are correct, even if it is a bit tongue in cheek. The selection of Biggar will ensure no aimless kicking in the last 5 minutes which cost us a number of close games with Aussies previously. That is of course unless they bring Priestland on at 60 then we shafted.Steffan wrote:As the superior team of northern hemisphere rugby and the only real 6N contender for the 2015 world cup I think anything other than a victory against the Aussies is unacceptable

If things get desperate, our Welsh lads can flick a few forward passes in the midfield...our grubber hopelessly into the in-goal area and then jump on the ground and appeal for a yellow card. And remember to be offside in the defensive line at all times.Scarpia wrote:Barnes! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Hopefully last weeks example of Ireland aimlessly kicking the ball to the Kiwi back three in the last five minutes will keep silly decisions fresh in the minds, and not in our game...daidimview wrote:I think you are correct, even if it is a bit tongue in cheek. Mind you if the Bazzers want to chip one to George North in open space for him to run most the pitch and beat several defenders like his try in the first Lions test that would be a big crowd pleaser...!

That was foolish from Wales especially when they had the upper hand. Why didnt they just spread it wide and give it to George North . Its a predictable but very effective tactic like he proved minutes before that lineoutGloriousEmpire wrote:Wow. Well I won't repeat that experience again.
