Kovalev fight should be a good one and Bellew vs Stevenson has the potential to be a bit tasty!

Although im a Stoke fan so will skip that game

Just watching the boxnation card, and it is shocking... Boxnation needs to be put down.
May put my alarm on for the fight. Per Eddie Hearn, ring walk is at 5am.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Awful stoppage, another easy win for Del Boy... I'm officially cancelling my boxnation subscription, it's Poopie.
Eddie tweeted that the bomber was on at 5am! Hope it's not the case.

Not able to watch it but Dan Rafael is on twitter saying it was strange but fair because the lad turned his back. I'd really love for a fight or two to end without controversy for a change!

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Nothing wrong with the stoppage... There's no standing eight count rule, so a fighter has to either take a knee, or show signs of life, if you turn your back, there's nothing else a ref can do. Nothing controversial, just a poopie ending.

In this case, with Chisora having him trapped in the corner and turned, I think the ref should have said break.kingraf wrote:Nothing wrong with the stoppage... It certainly looked like that was what the other fighter expected to see when he turned round... Not the ref waving it off.
Another very soft Chisora 'stoppage'.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Just seen the stoppage and punches leading up a few times on u tube. Dereck hit him a couple of times flush and although I could only see his back the guy looked tagged, gone and wasn't defending. He turned his back on Dereck which on the replay looks like he'd had enough. I think Dereck hitting him on the back of the head has clouded the issue. I really think the guy was gone. Not the same as Groves v Froch IMO.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Here's the issue though, Rob - if the ref calls break while the fighter is trapped in the corner shipping some blows, imo he's coming to the fighters rescue. There is absolutely no reason for the ref to call a break in that scenario. Imagine if Taylor knew all he had to vs Froch was turn his back, and he would have been granted a reprieve.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Just watched it again. Del lands 3 shots and the last one ( before the back of head shot ) the polish guy is definitely stunned big time and faces the corner. He looks a bit limp and not in fight mode. Also the ref being next to them will see just how badly stunned. I think he was stopped out on his feet before the illegal punch. Check it out on u tube. See what I'm seeing snd if you agree.
Appreciate we all want things black and white now now especially after last week but I sense the ref knew he was gone and this is heavyweight boxing guys. Damage can be done!!

Roll on Stevenson v Kovalev. Bellew was awfully boring and negative. Must have taken his gameplan from Audley Harrison or David Haye.

Stevenson just looked like a different level of athlete from Bellew. Much faster reactions. Bellew looked so slow. He fought as well as he could, but Bellew has reached his level.

Bellew talked a good game.
Stevenson delivered a good game.
Hence why Superman is champion and Bellew will be back to fighting nobodies.

I thought Bellew was very poor and he wont win any fans with that kind of negativity. Hes a huge light heavyweight and Stevenson is reasonably small at the weight. Bellew said he wasnt going to run and gave it a lot of talk but thats exactly what he did. Ran all night against the "midget".

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Kovalev vs Stevenson has, in the matter of six months, replaced Mayweather-Pacquaio as THEE fight, and you saw why. Bellew and Sillakh are very live opponents, and both were swatted with the effort it usually takes to pat a dog on the head.
Stevenson sounds weary of the Krusher, but at 36-years old, you'd think he'll take the fight once HBO's accountant explains the matter. Can't see Froch taking this fight. He shipped so many rights from Groves, that I'd be very worried about his health in a Stevenson fight (fearsome chin, + blunt power = career ending damage).

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
WWWWhhhoooaa. Kovalev is an absolute animal. That knockout was ruthless.
He would absolutely wipe the floor with Stevenson.
Bellew, well what did anyone expect to happen!!?? He had no chance, just rewind to his first fight against Issac Chelemba to see his real level.
And whats with his nickname still being "The Bomber"?? just over 50% KO ratio is not a guy I would call a bomber in boxing.
Didn't see the post fight interviews, did Bellew cry about his family etc again like he did at the end of the Cleverly fight?
He might be wise going to Shumenov for a shot, but even then I would give him slightly better than no hope to win that fight. The other belts are well out of his grasp.
Maybe a job as an analyst on Sky beckons?

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
When I was a kid my old Man always used to say to me.........Lose but leave it all out on the court.........I was a very good tennis player as a kid....Better than a boxer that's for sure though he offered me the same advice........(Never told me to duck though!!)
Unfortunately in the space of a couple of months Quigg and now Bellew have done just that !!!
You just can't allow a big pot shotter the center of the ring and let him fight at his own pace !!.......Wrong, wrong wrong............
You've got to start quick.......Keep your hands up and try and own him with the jab..........Said the other day the pace against a 36 year old is so important and he didn't set one......as well as use the JAB!!
Stevenson was allowed to rest his shoulders and arms by keeping his hands down and work when he wanted to !!.........How are you going to come on after 6 when he's still FRESH!!!!
Sure Bellew was overmatched but give yourself a chance !!! ....
Not sure where Bellew goes from here........It's a long way back........
As for Halling..........
"He said he wanted to hear boos....To frustrate the crowd and stevenson".......50-44 after five is really frustrating!! (I gave Adonis a 10-8 in the 3rd).......
"If he didn't fight like that he would have been koed earlier" ....well why make the matchup then ???
"Fantastic effort"..........."Put up a great fight"..............Leave it out !!
As My old man would say he didn't leave it all out on the court.......
Very very sad..........Bellew is a proud man and rightly so.......But casual reflection will show It's not the loss that will hurt.......but the fact he didn't give himself a chance..

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Cleverly and Bellew have both been unlucky to run into what look like a pair of world class talents in their division at the same time. Both look like fairly murderous punchers.
I cannot blame them for moving up. They are just going to get pancaked again by the champs at 175.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Been a fantastic year for Superman. four wins out of four, all by KO, avenged his only blemish, and molested three top five fighters. Didn't lose a round all year. My pick for 2013 fighter of the year. I'd give him a very good chance of beating Kovalev. he's apprenticeship under Manny has made him a far better fighter, and I think he is a better boxer than Kovalev. Problem with that is that a fight between these two isnt likely to b a twelve round chess match, more like a blink-and-you-miss it dogfight. Question isn't who hits harder, but rather, whose chin can hold up the longest. When Boone faced Kovalev (I) he went eight rounds without getting dropped. Stevenson dropped hum twice in one round, and then nearly killed him in the re-match. All the fights I've seen of Kovalev, his opponents have gotten back up, only to get emphatically put back down. My initial thought is that while he does have ATG power, it's not quite grenade hands.

Yeah, but to be fair I have thought he has looked skinny at the weight, he is quite tall, not saying that's why he lost though. But moving up a weight could serve him well..hampo171 wrote:Bellew has hinted he will be moving up in weight, seems to be blaming the weight loss for his performance.

After Wales losing to Australia for the second time this year and Cardiff City getting whooped by Arsenal (although a Welshman and Cardiff fan scored 2 of the goals) Bellew losing is about the only thing to cheer us up this weekend

Yer I wasn't impressed with Bellew. He let Stevenson fight in his comfort zone. When Bellew actually put them together, he gave Stevenson something to think about and even caught his attention at one point.
Think Bellew will move up to cruiser now. Where the extra weight might give him some more pop in his punches. Also His right is too telegraphed for me.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
I don't think Bellew would have lasted a round if he engaged with Stevenson. His game plan seemed clear to me, stand off and counter punch with well chosen hard shots early on and then come on strong in the second half of the fight after Stevenson had hopefully faded.
Bellew was very disciplined I thought and did well not to get drawn into any toe to toe trade offs. In the end though he just wasn't good enough and Adonis was hurting him more often. Bellew ate some big lefts and held up so his chin is decent but he just took one too many.
Bellew lasted almost six rounds in what was a lop sided mismatch on paper. What were people expecting would happen?
Kovalev looked awesome again. Stevenson has better wins though and is operating at a higher level to me. Kov though has a better chin than Adonis I reckon which could be the deciding difference.
There was a poll in Quebec a few days ago ago and the fans when asked who they wanted to fight Stevenson next voted Froch by some distance. To avenge the Bute defeat. A Hopkins fight would be very interesting from the point of view of could Stevenson get him out of there.

Re: FIGHT NIGHT THREAD - SPOILERS WITHIN!!!
Going against the grain here, I didnt think bellew did much wrong. Thought the game plan was ok, he just wasn't good enough to execute it. Sometimes, the guy's too good. I agree that the flaw in the plan is the opponent can pace himself, but hey.
He also had his Bruno Tyson moment in the fourth, but again wasn't good enough to capitalise on it.
The quigg fight by comparison was an appalling game plan, throwing away rounds he could have won. Bellew was throwing away round he would have list whatever he did, in the hope of later success.
Just my take

Yeah I think its game over for Bellew now. Too much talent in the LH division for him to compete. My problem with Bellews performance is that he never tried to close Stevenson down, the guy had only 1 punch the whole night not hard for a world class fighter to figure out.
No where for Bellew to go now except European level.
