Job done for Spurs there. Can't see Sunderland getting out of it or even making a fist of it really. They look average all over the park. Big, big job for Poyet.

Don't know if pardew was taking the urine but if he wasn't his post match comments have shown how much of a disaster united are at the moment.

"It was a magnificent performance. I know we won't get the headlines because of United and poor old David Moyes,"
"It's tough for David," said the Newcastle manager. "I thought events worked against him with no Rooney today.
"He's a great person and a great manager and the best thing this great club can do is to stick by him. They've done that before and he'll come out smiling."
Can't say I imagined this sort of thing happening when moyes was appointed.

United are in a mess, no way around it or saying it any other way from Pardew. Moyes is under pressure & everyone knows the situation.
Quite frankly, it's a significant overhaul of the squad that needs to be done in my opinion & is made even harder when you factor in that the club may not be able to attract top quality players or replacements, because of possibly no Champions League or even European football, such is the dire situation United find themselves in.

It's quite staggering that we are talking about the current champions in this way.
Even a top 4 finish would be some turnaround.

More and more impressed with Hooper by the week. Not only is he scoring but his link up play is clever, and although his touch is sometimes heavy its generally very good. I feel a #hooperforengland campaign on the horizon...

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
I know these RVP rumours have been denied but do you seriously think he'd leave United if they finish outside a European place. RVP's character is actually quite ruthless, from what I've seen from him throughout his career & I'm sure he'd pack up & leave in a flash. Also, Rooney has flirted with the idea of leaving multiple times & at his age, I'm sure one big move to a Chelsea would appeal.
This is the problem with United and this horrible form. Before you even start thinking about rebuilding under Moyes, you've got to think about actually keeping the players you want to be the core of the team for future seasons & who are already there. I don't think anyone envisaged a non-top 4 placing & the consequences of such an outcome.
@Olly - Glad he's finding his feet now in the EPL. Injury set him back in the summer but now he's adjusting to life at Norwich, he can finally showcase his ability. Good to see. Great result today, sure you will be fine in avoiding relegation because there is some bad, bad sides in this league below you.

Yeah I've never been worried about going down John, even if Hughton did leave. I'm still not a hughton in man, but if we can show the same endeavour away from home we have today, then he'll win me over. Not pretty at times and West Brom should've scored but we fought and countered well all game and KING LEROY finished it off lovely!
Van Wolfswinkel back next week. Cannot wait to see him and Hooper play up top together

If Ipswich hadn't scored in the 89th minute I'd have won 100 quid from a norwich and Liverpool win and Ipswich draw

On a separate note, I don't think its any coincidence that Michael Turner comes back into the side and we pick up a clean sheet and a win. Legend

yep and you wont have an option with Rooney- you will have to sell because otherwise he can walk on a free in 2015. He will not sign another contract unless the club signs more players and looks like they will be in the top 4 for the long term

Like any good dutchman if they want out he'll be more hassle then he's worth with niggles starting to pop up on a weekly basis.
Apparently a lot of the United players are unhappy as Fergie has special routines for most of them to keep the injuries away but that's been scraped under Moyes.
United need a clear out like Arsenal did over the summer. People wondered if we'd still have a squad we've used to most players this season out of all the PL sides...

The biggest mistake Moyes made was clearing out the backroom staff, you cannot go to a club with such an extensive and specific training regime and change it all.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
Removing the staff was a horrific decision. Those special bonds created over years just evaporated over night. No wonder the players probably are not buying into the new regime.
De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Carrick, Fellaini, Januzaj, Valencia (just because of work rate n variety of positions), Welbeck (long term core) along with Rooney & RVP. However, no-top 4 means you risk losing Rooney. The rest of the squad are expendable or old.
Moyes needs to build from that. I'm sure a rebuilding phase was going to happen but I'm sure it was going to be done, knowing a Top 4 & European football was achieved. Now that is an uncertainty, makes life very difficult.

I have to say as an Arsenal fan I am happier than Wayne Rooney on free pudding day. All these teams that are supposedly not big wins when Arsenal beats them are now taking the megabillion dollar teams to the woodshed.
Take Southampton, they were playing their 3rd string keeper, no Wanyama, Schneiderlen, Klein, and Lovren playing the second half with one leg and they tie City. They should have won that match, all of the best chances in this match were Southampton's chances. Really like their squad.

Got to love Javi Hernandez doing a Greg Louganis in the box and the United fans claiming he was fouled. Hilarious stuff really.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
I'd be getting rid of Valencia, Young, Nani to start with. The wingers have failed and really offer very little. They're all talented but something about United has killed that. Young especially needs a new environment.
Rio can probably come "home" at the end of the season. Evra is playing alright but got to be his last season. I think a top drawer centre back and a look at the full back positions may be necessary.
Then new centre midfielder or two.
That's why I think they need to spend in January. More than just chasing up the table, but it would be awful to bring in that number of players and implement so many changes in just one window. They missed a step with their mess up this summer, if there is one thing Moyes needs to ask Fergie about its the best way to transition a new team. It's a hell of a thing to do

LOL! Wayne "grandma's boy" Rooney. One thing is settled Man U this season without Rooney is just plain awful. How do the defending champions look so bad so soon after lifting the trophy. The aura of invincibility is gone for now.

United's midfield is in major need of rebuilding. Todays quartet of Jones, Cleverley, Januzaj and Nani is pitiful to say the least.

What was the reason for Moyes getting rid of the backroom staff? Did he have a falling out with them or did he just want to stamp a new era at the club? Does anyone know?

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
I suppose the problem is that if this had all happened and he'd had Fergie's backroom staff then the media would have just called it similar to the Busby situation where the manager is gone but his regime is still continuing.
If he could buy anything it would be the fear factor, teams are going into games confident they can take United. Newcastle grew into it so well, Pardew made the right changes and the players went for it. Last year the psychology would have been so different.

A great example is Arsene Wenger sticking with and promoting Pat Rice upon his arrival at Arsenal. That didn't work out too bad.
Utd are a bad example mind. Their whole coaching/management structure was all about Fergie.
The Liverpool bootroom was a one off.

Downing's been left with near on 20 stitches in his calf to achilles apparently. I think the difference is Flanagan went for the ball, Nolan didnt.
My feeling on studs? If there were a better alternative then it would have been found, the science in football these days is incredible.
Had to celebrate a Spurs win today, felt dirty. Season defining match next week.
