depends, they can be awful away from home. they will be playing at home first and will need to take a lead into second leg. they will certainly be the team most of the 1st placers will want to avoid though

City are well on course to smash the 100 goals barrier. Amazing.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
Koscielny going off did not help & unsettled them but City have blown away everyone at home. Mertesacker's lack of pace n movement against City was going to be evident. That's nearly 50 EPL goals & it's only December.
Arsenal vs Chelsea next. Be interesting to see what kind of reaction Arsene gets out of them after this result. If they lose to Chelsea, it's hard to see them sustaining a challenge.

Arsenal little bit unlucky today with certain decisions. 6-3 doesn't truly reflect the game imo but City well worth their win. Some real poor defending from Arsenal today, and Koscienly going off didn't help. If the offsides didn't go against them and Giroud took his chances who knows but City just too clinical and good in attack.
Walcott with a good comeback. Only good for England and Arsenal fans. Can't see City losing at home in the league this season and will be dangerous in the CL. Soon as they get their away form together its theirs to lose imo.

Is that why Mertesacker was angrily pointing the finger at him. Disappointing really. You hope Arsenal's bubble doesn't burst now, they need a reaction against Chelsea. Liam, that's the problem with Giroud, he can't take difficult chances that aren't on a plate & that's the difference between an ordinary striker & one who can lead & guide a team to a Championship

It is, especially if we can win without Cabaye & be only 6 points off Arsenal tonight. Still long way to go though.

John,
Agree, Giroud has done ok so far but is not in the same category as a Aguero/Negredo or a Suarez. Arsenal could do with a top striker. That's why they won't win the title this year, City just too much firepower this year.

I think personally we'll see teams like Southampton and Newcastle and possibly Everton just fall off the pace after the new year with utd, Spurs, Liverpool fighting for the 4th spot with for me, Chelsea/City/Arsenal the top 3.

Interestingly enough, Bendtner looked more threatening during his brief cameo at the end then Giroud did all game.
I was surprised to see how easily Arsenal were getting cut open considering how solid they have been defensively so far this campaign. Credit to City though. What a force they are at the Etihad. Just a immense attacking juggernaut charging at their opponents from every possible angle.
Sort out their away form and there is no stopping them.
Arsenal just have dust themselves off. They played some good stuff at times but playing the hardest fixture in the PL calendar so soon after a tough trip to Naples was rotten luck. Their players just looked totally spent by the final 15 minutes but kept going. The Chelsea game next is one they cant afford to lose.

Shocking second half performance from us, without Cabaye pulling the strings we look ordinary. Southampton showing again great team-work & staying power to keep themselves in a game, just like last week against City. Disappointing result really.

Yeah I would take that performance level ..
Our goal difference has been very good over the last 6 games..
I can't believe how much better we are without holloway. I am glad he left he was clearly out of his depth..
Sometimes managers do need to leave. This was one of those times.

Hope I'm allowed to criticise Arsenal now without being referred to as a "hater". Horror show defensively which, as I've already pointed out, is a massive weakness of theirs.

Monreal is certainly a week link and Sagna is much better in the attacking department. Seems Coleman is linked with a move but he wouldn't leave Everton in Jan that's for certain. They really don't want another injury to a CB because they are literally down to Vermalen and Mertesacker. Still, the wheels haven't come off yet. Gave City a decent game and just got caught on the counter.
Big win for Cardiff today, pressure on Clarke now. Seems many have wanted him gone for some time now. Who to come in though? Jol maybe?

Defensively they are decent. No worse than City of Chelsea.
Their weakness is a lack of a quality forward. This game was always going to be a huge challenge especially so soon after a tough away CL game.
Their fans shouldn't over react or panic just yet.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
This a tough run of fixtures for Arsenal. Napoli was a weird game but today City could have scored ten and we could have a couple more goals as well. A great match. Despite the lopsided defeat I felt that at times we really played some beautiful stuff. Aaron Ramsey was immense as was Theo. Giroud had another poor game he is slumping right now, although I think he is a quality striker he needs a breather, time to play theo up top against Chelsea.
As for City they can beat anyone in the world and they have all those oil sheik billions at their back and the squad shows that kind of investment. They basically bought every la liga star not playing on Barcelona or Madrid. I mean Ya Ya, Silva, Negredo, Zaballeta, Aguero are all ex La Liga stars.
As for Arsenal to me they are still one of the three teams that can win it, but they don't have the depth of City or Chelsea, really nobody does. So they will need some luck with injuries and they are team I feel that is one top class striker away from being really good. Monreal had a horror show on the left today like Jenkinson did in Napoli. Hopefully Kos' injury is not serious we need him and all our starting back 5 players to be healthy to have a chance at league. I still believe we can win it. Every team has a dip here and there, the others have had theirs and this our dip.

I agree with this, definitly need a reinforcement striker. Giroud should have scored a goal or two in this open of a match and the looks he had. He missed one by just a few inches on a beautiful header, he is a good player but they need a pacey, tricky forward to play when Giroud is not having a goood game or to challenge and take the top spot. The good thing is that I think Theo can be that pacey and tricky striker for us. I would like to Walcott up top with a midfield of Flamini, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil, and Cazorla against Chelsea.
We will be fine, Man City is a great squad and they play immense at home, Arsenal are having their slump like all the other contenders have already had their trying time. I think the team will respond but we do need some help up top.

After the Chelsea game you have a decent run of games and should get your charge back on track. Even a draw against Mourinho's boys wouldn't be the end of the world.
I personally think it's a two horse race, Arsenal and City. Not that hung up or impressed with this Chelsea side. They look a long way away from being a Mourinho side so to speak.

putting 16 goals against man u, arsernal and Tottenham is just unheard off.
they only managed to score 2 against hull there mind!!(man citeh exploit holes- any hole they will find it)
Hull clearly set up to defend!
arsernal to be fair was the only team that has come close to matching them offensively
they did score 2 offside goals(which didn't seem to be) and should have had a penalty. But all the same citeh could have scored 8 plus! Citeh were the better side- but arsernal were not that far away
Its not all doom and gloom for Arsenal fans..
I would pay good money to watch fixtures like that every week of my life.

I think we will play well against Chelsea. Man city was on fire and really we were in it till the end and could have really been in it with a little bit better finishing. A tough run of fixtures for sure, I think Chelsea maybe will be in the picture. I still think there are three teams that can win it. Liverpool looks like a dark horse but who knows the table is so tight right now from top to bottom. Everybody knew this would be a tough week and this season all the big clubs have had their tough patches.

Chelsea could be that team that could limit city at the etihad and nick a win. As long as they realise that citeh are that madrid/barca type and play in that effective way they can against these type of teams.
BUt I am backing Arsernal over Chelsea.

Probably a season too early for me but would love to be proved wrong. Be delighted with a top 4 finish. The one thing I don't want is Europa League football next season.

Chelsea favourites for me currently, then City. Liverpool are outside 3rd favourites, then it's probably Arsenal.
