Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
solskjaer is an interesting one but i think he would want to take on a side at the start of the season. He's comfortable at Molde but waiting for a job in the prem to open up. He'd want to put his own stamp on the squad so would be surprised.

Hoddle would snap that job up tomorrow. If not tomorrow then a former life.
Good coach, weird person.
he did lose it a bit- but he was very un affected by his odd stance on things. which in fairness is a plus for me.
Different- confident in his approach, has a philosophy, isn't afraid of looking like a fool
I would snap him up in a heart beat if i was a club owner

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
Hasn't Glenn Hoddle got a job with the F.A? He also is heavily involved with his academy. Can't see him ever getting back in the management game, it's been way too long. Same kind of thing with O'Leary. Once your out the game, tough to get back in, just look at Curbishly for instance.
As for Solskjaer, depends what his ambitions are. Jobs in the EPL that are relatively decent, just below the top 7 or 8 should be jumped upon. Not sure what he's waiting for because he's not going to get a top, top job. Also, it's before a window, gets the opportunity to change n bring players in.

Good point about the window John but I can't see it. It would be a big risk for Solskjaer. Personally I think there'd be a job available in the PL in the summer. Maybe at West Ham. I think if Sam just about keeps them up they'll say thank you very much and look to take them in a different direction.

Also if Mourinho has any sense he's straight on the phone to Clarke begging him to come back to Chelsea as a coach/assistant

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
Hoddle has apparently made noises about getting back involved. I do respect him, possibly got the England team playing at its best since 1990, has varied tactical ideas based around a good standard of football and has a passion for bringing on youth. The risk is whether he can get back into the swing of things.
From what I've heard from Norwegians, Solskjaer has done a good job at times but the league they have there can be won by teams in good form and then those teams fade off again. I like him, but at this stage he is such a risk. If he wasnt a famous ex-United player but just a lesser known guy who had done that in Norway then there'd be no talk of him having a job here. Doesnt mean he couldnt do it, but a huge risk for me.

Eh. You could see the cracks emerging this summer. Thought he did a decent job, the fast start tends to get remembered more than WBAs poor form after that.

Hard to say with Mackay because its well known his relationship with Tan is all but over with him sacking Moody. I think Tan is waiting for the chance to sack him now and bring in another manager but sacking Malky would have one hell of a backlash from fans. WBA coming along gives them both a way out but I feel Mackay has too much loyalty to the fans.

Crazy to get rid of Clarke, it's his first mini crisis. The problem the board, and the fans, have is that they over achieved last season, largely down to having Lukaku upfront. They are missing that type of striker this season, who'd be a manager eh?

It isn't his first mini-crisis, it's one of many he'd had since the turn of the year. P35 W7 D11 L17. 32 points from nearly a whole season, which is relegation form whichever way you look at it. And we had Lukaku for a majority of those games.
As for who comes in, Mackay is apparently highly-rated by the board. Hoddle and our Chairman have had a falling out in the past so can't see it. Jol's a possibility, but I wouldn't want him personally. Solskjaer again an interesting name, apparently stalling on a new deal at Molde as well. Paul Clement, assistant to Ancelotti at Chelsea, PSG and Madrid. Would be similar style appointment to that of Clarke.
There's a good squad at the club, lacking that one goal-scorer and a left back perhaps, but still the best squad we've assembled in the Premier League
Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
The more I look at the sacking, the more I kinda see where WBA are coming from. Gives the new manager time before the window to assess. Clarke was on a downward spiral and his record over the past year is pants as Mat points out

My mate from uni who is a WBA fan also says Clarke has his favourites like brunt, who he says shouldn't be anywhere near the squad

Not even a Man United fan, just like him and have felt for him having had similar problems.
Expect Man United to play better today, always feel Rooney and Welbeck will offer a threat as they have great understanding and Welbeck is probably closer to full fitness now.

Steve Clarke sacked is a disgrace. What do West Brom think they are? A side that expects top half. Stupid. Bloke has worked wonders there. Fantastic manager, hope he gets another job very soon.
I want them to go down now.
Also fantastic to see Darren Fletcher back, think i speak for everyone related to football.

I want them to go down by virtue of being one spot we cant fill, nothing more. I understand why, but I think its hard to put the results at the end of last season in context. Similarly, they lost Lukaku so were never going to be as good.
But it must be hard to see the way other teams have got better for sacking their manager and not react to it. I think we (west ham) are the only team in the bottom five not to sack their manager. But Palace and Sunderland have played better for getting new managers, whilst some would say Fulham have improved but its far too early to tell and their results need to be contrasted to standards of team they play. And with a transfer window coming up, you almost need to make a decision before the chance to spend money arrives.
Its not a disgrace, its just not one I immediately agree with.

Gary Hooper - 4 in the last six games.
England calling? Maybe, with Carroll and Defoe not getting much game time (Carroll completely not at fault of course).

Two men up top and relying on Elmander's strength to play the big man-little man combo. Nice to see it actually work in modern football, the kind of thing fans moan about these days.
I didn't know Soldado's wife had had a miscarriage last month, got to feel for them and would go a long way to explaining him not settling completely. First he moves his family, then they have big news with the pregnancy, new culture and new teammates, before harrowing news.

One of the worst n most embarrassing performances I've ever seen from Villa. You know how much trouble your in when your allowing Cleverley to score. All this is doing is papering over the cracks for United, same with the Leverkusen result.

You can say that again. Truly horrifying side. United`s problems aren't solved, as I said, result papers over the cracks.
For United, its about going on a run but they won't get it this easy every week. This was a total gift today from Villa.
