That's why these pursuits should be undertaken in videogames and not in real life. Real life has a nasty habit of finding you out to be the hopeless loser you don't think you are.

they're two totally different disciplines. If you think being one of the best motor sport drivers of all time doesnt follow that the person is very well geared to ski them not sure what to say mate.

You need to laugh at your self mate.. Because that is pure nonsense..
SR thinks scuhamaker was a bad skier and that everyone who has said how good he was is lieing etc
I explained to SR that he is talking BS and the reasons why Schumacher is more than likely to be a high class skier.
He is perfectly set up to being one. You clearly dont understand the aptitude needed for being a skier and a motor racing driver, Or even just a professional sportsman..

"Do you think someone with excellent hand eye coordination (not sure why that is important for skiing)"
all i can say is that if you cant work that one out then you are not a very good skier. It is immensely important at the highest level.
To ski effectively your eyes have to see , your brain then has to process very quickly and then it has to control its muscles to move.
The reason why many sportsmen cant move from say tennios to skiing etc effectively is because the skills are so different. Different muscles are developed .
In regards to motor racing though,. Its very different. They are some of the fittest guys in sport. Some people(presumably you) think its just driving a car!!(lol)
They are all round athletes, They are also used to speed in a way that is alien to others and have great eye to brain to body reaction time..
when they ski at 60 miles per hour it will feel like 20 miles an hour.
They are more developed in the ways of speed due to there experience with it. Think of them more like flies

It was a very unassuming spot between 2 blue runs. Not steep. But when the fickle finger of fate points at you don't reckon you've much choice in the matter. The Lord has obviously decided that he his destined to join a higher order.

DO people have an issue reading points made?
Would you like to add why a motor racer wouldn't be set up better than your average joe when it comes to taking up skiing?

Well to laugh at a valid point tells me you must have a giggles mate- So maybe i should ask you.
Learn to think if you want to debate mate.
The typical SR BS is starting to infiltrate too many people on this site.
Oh look he shouldn't have skied on that slope, he isn't even a good skier(LOL- despite every evidence against that!!), Its his fault, blah blah..
Anyone that counters that nonsense becomes wrong in your eyes I take it?

I'm sure Schumacher is better than some average joe's.
Like wise your average joe woill be better than him.
Loads of people spend alot more time i'm sure than Schumacher on the slopes, so would be more experienced, better.
You said something along the lines of he's a good F1 driver so he would be a good skier.
No issue here.

Jeez calm down man.

Why would being an F1 driver set you up better than anyone else for something completely unrelated like skiing?
Your adoration of sportspeople and that you think they are better at everything they fancy just because it may have "some" similarities is laughable.
I guarantee there are some sporting things that you do better than loads of sporting people. They're just human.

How have I put ANYONE down? I understand Schumacher might deal well with speed and have decent reactions, but being a driver doesn't mean he'll be any better than Joe Bloggs at controlling edges or dealing with snow conditions. Nor does it give him technique for skiing.
He certainly didn't judge the conditions very well, I'll put that down to an inability to judge the conditions and a lack of local knowledge.

I haven't put Schumacher or anyone down, I've simply suggested that he is probably not as experienced a skier (with the emphasis on off-piste and assessing conditions and riding to the conditions/time of year snow depth) etc as the media are proclaiming.
What's wrong with that? Is that any different from you blowing smoke up his backside?

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
No.
a rally driver and f1 driver are usually very similar in skill sets.
The discipline can be swapped with practise
Most of the time though the better drivers go F1(or so we are supposed to believe- it could be down to social and financial standing)

Have there ever been any top class racing drivers from Ireland?
We've had the likes of Hopkirk, Irvine and John Watson from north of the border but from Lowry-Land? I'm not so sure.

None come to mind kwini. To be honest Ireland pre-1990's was a bit of a barren wasteland with no opportunities for youngsters to get involved in karting or any other sports apart from ball and field games.

Eddie Jordan started off racing before being a team owner. I know he raced in the lower formulas (up to F2) and won a few races. Don't think he ever got a F1 drive but he did test for McLaren at one stage. Not sure he qualifies as top class - your call on that.

Oh and in terms of NI born F1 drivers, you forgot Martin Donnelly, who admittedly only had 1 - 1 1/2 seasons in an noncompetitive car before a serious accident ended his career.

I like the superbowl, though it being on pretty late and lasting days puts me off watching it all, what with working on a Monday. But i do like the whole razzmatazz of the thing.
I actually like NFL, and watch bits of it on sundays. As Super mentioned, NFL being such a short season is built up by the off season. 4/5 months of a year is the season. While it seems baseball is pretty continuous.

I don't think it helps that US centric sports are generally boring as hell as spectator events and drawn out to a ridiculous level to maximise commercial revenue.
Went to a baseball game last year, drab wasn't the word. Maybe I just don't have the patience for spectating, can barely watch one half of a football game without getting bored.

Yeah the breaks are annoying.
The atmosphere seems to be good though.
I'm not really a fan of NFL, basketball, or baseball.
Quite enjoy Ice Hockey.

In 2 minds about the schui I debate. Have you never met anyone who was awesome at whatever they turned their hand to? I understand that a lot of top level sportsmen could choose many different paths as they are naturally gifted at most if not all sport. However that tends to get right up the nose of many armchair commentators! Especially those who can play/drive/whatever to a certain level and then are destined to spend their lives as desk jockeys.

Indeed indeed Monty, being blase, over confident etc is often a cause of accidents, It's more the early season (29th december,) and lack of serious snow that was the misjudgement, not his "talent", would imagine he was probably using piste skis too.MontysMerkin wrote:Well I'm sure he's skied off piste hundreds of times with no issues.
