Aye. You are way more English than Scottish in the way you act and talk . As said you have a problem with the England football team not the English, But then Many English do as well.

I absolutely despise (and i do actually hate this thing) the current expectation that in Scotland especially there is an unstated expectation that you are supposed to wallow in some sort of Scottishness.
Being Scottish means nothing to me, and there's a lot more to be ashamed of by being Scottish than there is to be proud.
Scottishness and Scottish Nationalism are horrid things. Reprehensible, disgusting and most often based on nothing other than historical bigotry.
Hibernophobic. Brilliant word.

They need to get down to a "Beat the Goalie" stand at the local fete.
Who were the best penalty takers? Matt Le Tissier, Graham Alexander?

Baines has not missed one yet.
It makes me laugh how some of these pros miss by a mile.
When i used to play sunday league, there were some quality penalties taken.
Must be able to hit the target, fair enough if the keeper saves it.

One of the reasons i've not played for so long is not many of my mates like to take part in sport, just like watching.
I just faded away from playing then.
Only person i play with is my dad, but he lives abroad, only comes back couple of times a year, not long enough to fit a game in
Why i enjoyed playing football.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I used to like U2, really like them but over the years Bono's complete inability to avoid ranting and rambling on about this cause or that cause has just wore down, actually worn out any likeability that they once had. I've seen them live 3 times, the first time (1987) was awesome, the 2nd time (1993) was also great. The 3rd time (the 360 tour, think it was 2009/2010), I could easily have walked out half way through
He's irritating in the extreme but I still say the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are class class albums

U2 are just to commercial.
The last few albums have sounded very similar to other bands music that made success recently before them.
Total sell out band.
Bono isn't a rock star but a celebrity with a voice that we only hear because he is famous.
Reminds me of actors like Penn who spout political nonsense just because they can.
By the way I rate Penn highly as an actor. But he needs to learn to shut up just like bono.
And although I am not a huge fan of U2 they were a very good band. I agree with jas that their early albums deserved success.

Any "celebrity" who uses their position as a platform for airing their political views.
I reserve special dislike for Russel Brand who seems to think he has opinions on drugs which are worth changing laws for.

I was pretty shocked by how messed up brands views were on drugs during that documentary he did on them.
Yes he is experienced and yes he has made a success since he beat the drugs. But he seemed half crazy as himself, I don't remember exactly what his views were but i didn't agree fully. He sounded the type that is over paranoid about prescription drugs and legal highs over banned ones.. The type of dope smoker that thinks alcohol is evil..

He's very irritating and not remotely amusing. You frequently see that annoying type of celebrity with a political view on Question Time, I'd rather they just stuck to Politicians and Journalists on that programme.
Pretty cringeworthy when you see someone like Eddie Izzard making an idiot of themselves.

I like hearing certain peoples views. But I just wish the general population wouldn't just agree with certain celebs just because they like them..
As you mentioned earlier in the thread they are not super hero's. They just have a voice and in many cases a voice for an agenda they don't fully understand anyway.
Many celebs are just way to used to 'yes men'.
After the constant praise and yes's from people around them they develop a false sense of intellegnce. Its cringy.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I would rather see a celebrity showing an interest in a cause and trying to raise awareness on it then thinking it's nothing to do with them. If they have a little bit of influence then it should be used. If it's something I agree with then all the better. Raising awareness in Syria is not a bad thing. It's horrendous yet barely makes the front pages. If 1/10/100 people take an interest because bono or Clooney flag it up then thats a good thing surely?
I like Russell brand and do not deny it. He can make mps and journos look daft. He did with the horrible guy from the mail if I recall. And I'm not up with his drug views but I don't think he talks about decriminalization of drugs but more help for users and addicts. Not just looking them up with other users as that's not going to help the issue.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
I've never seen Russell Brand look anything other than outclassed when I've seen him on TV programmes made for grown ups. He might look good on E4 or juvenile TV, he's an adolescents comedian after all but in the real world, he's just an angry little pr!ck who thinks the government should be on the side of deadbeats like him. (For the record, only last week he was talking about decriminilisation of all drugs)
He was hideously embarrassing and shown up last time I saw him on Have I Got News For You, and he has a truly grating voice too.

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
In their earlier days U2 were kind of politically aware and astute and raised issues with a bit more subtlety. At some point though and I guess it started at or just after Live Aid, Bono's ego started to grow exponentially to the point where it became too irritating to listen to which would have been around the time Pop came out (only an egotistically deluded fool could possibly think that album was good)
One of my other heroes, Joe Strummer, was much much more political than Bono but somehow he managed to maintain integrity with it. Had he still been around he'd have bitch slapped Bono's ego down a good few times by now.
Brand I also find irritating, although I do recall one interview he did though where he tore an American interviewer a new one, much as I dislike him by the end of the interview I was cheering him on!!

Re: Another Drive4show 'Anything goes' thread
Looks like Brand and Bono won't be on the SR birthday trip then.
I'm usually interested to know what views people I see on tele hold so long as it is their genuine views rather than what they want people to think they think.
Unfortunately the vast majority are far too terrified or too thick to take them seriously though if I'm honest were it likely to cost me income I wouldn't be expressing controversial views all that readily.
Far safer and more fun to have opinions from the anonymity of an internet forum.

Loved the story of Bono at the end of a concert when he stood in front of the audience and slowly clapped his hands together. "Every time I clap my hands a child in Africa dies" he said in a solemn voice.
"Well stop fuc*ing clapping then" somebody in the audience shouted.

Read it,made some good points and some bad ones, but didn't really say anything at all, plus he's from The Guardian and is some idiot who wears a flat cap but who happens to have a Danish wife. He only really has anything of substance about only 1 of the 5 countries he's talking about, and even that, one of his main points is that Danish TV is crap. Wow, get the shotgun out.
I never said it was a utopia over there, most places have good and bad things about them. Car ownership cost in Denmark for one being a real bad one and the rather dreary landscape being another. Funny he never mentioned those. Probably wouldn't get a smug nod of agreement from his lentil burger eating bourgeois pals.
Hopefully give it a couple of years over there on an expat though. Noticed he wasn't too down on Norway though.
I doubt this bell end is really going to convince the UN/WHO/UNESCO that the Nordic countries are not some of the best places to live in the world through a rather juvenile article.

I discussed it with some Scandi's in the office yesterday. They didn't take it too seriously.
It's a bit like pointing out that London is supposedly a great place to live, and then pointing out a few of the bits which make it look bad. Doesn't change the overall picture.
