Monday Madness, Gary Gold Leaves Bath with Immediate Effect!
Wow I don't think any one saw this coming!
No reason why at the moment and Gold hasn't commented yet. All very odd especially as Bath are riding high on 9 straight wins and their best Prem start in years!
Statement
Bath Rugby Statement
Bath Rugby can today confirm that Gary Gold has left the Club with immediate effect.
The decision was taken following a re-structure in the rugby department and with the best interests of both Gary and the Club in mind.
No further comment will be made until it is appropriate.

Weird. Not the usual 'personal reasons'. Re-structure sounds like surplus to requirements. Was Gold Director of Rugby? Is there someone else with a similar role?

I read on another article that Gold was DoR and Ford HC.
So Gold dealt with long term planning, contracts, buying players, training facilities etc Ford dealt with day to day coaching, tactics etc
I know nothing about Ford but I think it'd be a big leap for him to go into the DoR role.

Mike Ford is head coach. Not unusual to have a DOR and a head coach though.
Ford has coached internationally and is already grab coach, doubt anything will change short term. I'd imagine they'll adjust the setup long term.

Surely if Gold was tasked with long term planning, buying players, contracts, etc..... at Bath..... then he wasn't doing a very good job. That is a club that should be up between Saints/Sarries/Tigers at the end of each year.

Gold has only had that job for a short time and in that time he has targeted mainly young English players (Ford, Watson, Sisi, Joseph) alongside a little bit of foreign muscle (Orlandi, Houston). It's a far better squad and he's continued Geech's attempts to reintegrate the Bath academy with the first team. It was no sensational over night change but It's a definite improvement.

I thought their signings were pretty impressive this season and they're doing well so far. Not sure what more he could do.

It's always funny to read some of these statements. They kinda read like lines from a Goodfellas movie at times. The faint attempt to let you know what happened to the guy in the boot but not telling you exactly lest you ring the cops.
The rugby department is 're-structured' - and Gold's face doesn't suit the colour of the new carpet. But coincidently it was in his best interests that we retired him. He'll enjoy pottering around in the garden now.... or under it
The wording just doesn't need to be so torturously circuitous, but these guys in charge seem to actually like the cinematic approach to statements.
