January Transfer Window 2014
First topic message reminder :
I'm gonna open this up now as I contemplate watching the shower of poop I'm about to watch.
What strong rumours have we heard? What do teams need? Where do you think the money will be spent?
I shall start you off with rumours surrounding Lambert maybe considering West Ham and similarly West Ham going to Spurs cap in hand to request a loan of Defoe or Adebayor (sources not so tight haha)

I'd say he's played his best on the right cutting inside personally, but, he's been very effective on the left also. He's such a talent I don't think it matters what wing he plays on.

I don't like wrong footed wingers personally, makes it a bit easier for the full back to know they will have cover from their centre halves.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Well its not that much of a left field suggestion. Played there for Monaco, get's forward and basically plays like a winger these days, decent cross as well and his defending has gone in a downward spiral in the last few seasons. At the same time, I would rather we buy a winger or even use Kagawa there if we have to but how many wingers are there available who are top class in Jan?

Started off strong, but with the injuries I think he's been overworked (at one point he was our only fit winger)
Pretty clear he can take on a man, has good technical skills in his touch, skills, has pace obviously. Lacks decision making at the minute, that'll come with experience. Could do with work on his shooting, often kinda rushes his shots. I'm not sure he's ready to be a regular starter in the Prem, would tear people apart coming off the bench with 25/30 mins left atm!
Got potential to be a very good player, scary to think he's only 19

Final delivery was always the weak point in evras game I can't see any situation where he would play left wing.

I'd play Coentrao LW until Evra leaves. Easier introduction to the PL
Seems Anderson is undergoing a medical at Fiorentina. Shame, looked like he had the tools to be the business but never went anywhere

I don't really understand the Coentrao deal. It's as if United are just covering themselves with an option for the summer with Coentrao, by taking him on loan & already agreeing a fee for the summer with Madrid. United don't need Coentrao massively, Evra is very capable as of this minute, yeah, he's declining but can perform a job until the summer. It's as if United or Woodward feel they need to be proactive with having Coentrao's deal in place, because they probably already feel that Baines is too old for the summer & Shaw will be poached by City or Chelsea, who are in stronger positions & may offer Champions League football. Remember, left backs are at a premium & is a difficult position to fill, therefore putting this Coentrao deal in place, just covers them & gives them the first option on him, if he is a success.
As for playing Evra left midfield. Christ. That's all I can say.

socal1976 wrote:Keep reading that Draxler is coming to Arsenal and in January. But another attacking midfielder it just doesn't make much sense. Also don't know if he is worth 37 million pound. The midfield is already crowded but the reports of this deal just don't seem to go away and in fact some are saying he will be coming in 48 hrs and so on. He has stated he would love to come to Arsenal but how is that going to work with the current mix of players and the fact that I hear he is injured.
Think the purpose of signing Draxler is to convert him into a foward.

Coentrao also doubles as a more than handy winger, which when Ashley Young is getting games, is a need

Why not just buy a ready made forward though? For the money they are considering spending on draxler they could surely afford one!

Wenger is a total football man. Draxler like most of his players are comfortable on the ball. Can pass and finish. Good signing if it comes off.
Wenger has a different philosophy to others. People keep forgetting that fact.

I think coentrao can be a success. Utd like their full backs to get forward as often as possible so will suit his game down to the ground.
He's not been playing that badly has he?

If you read it properly, he was referring to the shame about his age, hindering the big move. United probably feel they will miss out on Shaw too, therefore are being pro-active in securing Coentrao.

Not to mention with Villas finances, experience of the requisite quality tends to be pricey

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
What we need is an experienced midfielder.
Hoolhan is still being touted about.
He's better than what we have, but not brilliant.
Its easier said than done to bring this player in, that player in.
Lambert will do it his way and why would'nt he. He's the manager after all.
But does'nt mean the fans have to like it.
I dont know what's going on with our chairman.
I read that he's only been to 2 games this season.
Showing alot of interest there in the club.

Yep agreed.
Wenger is only interested in paying big if the player has it all.
You would never find him paying 27 mill for a fellani or a soldado.
Arsenals balance sheet is the most real out of any other clubs.. They could sell ozil or draxel later and break even even if they do not massively perform..

Disagree with that. They spent 40 million on Ozil (Who hasn't be worth it) when you spend that kind of money, you are throwing money at winning a league. Yes its not like Chelsea or City spending, but there both in a league of there own.
I would like to see Arsenal winning it, because unlike Chelsea and City they were actually bringing through Young English talent, which at the end of the day is what we all want, Walcott, Chamberlin, Jenkinson, Whilshere, Gibbs, more coming through as well.

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
They paid for Ozil, yeah. But what they arnt doing is buying loads of 8 mill pound players to fill the rest of the team. As you say they are instead bringing through the youth..
If the player is of high class (overall footballing skills) they have bought. BUt they rarely do..
And that is why I like arsernal. For all the reasons..
Philosophy,
bringing up English players
only paying large on proven quality

At Madrid Ozil is world class and one of the best in the world, behind Messi, Ronaldo, Bale and Iniesta.
But for Arsenal he hasn't played like a 40 million pound player IMO. Only have to look at the game at Old Trafford, when he was in Phil Jones back pocket.

We only have to look at 1 game when a player was settling into a new club in a new league as opposed to an entire career to judge a player. Never minding that United set out to stop Ozil and co playing that day.

7 is hardly blowing the world away for a player of his abilty playing in one of the best attacking teams, chris brunt is only two behind as is zabelata whos a right back. navas has been a bit part player for city and he's only one behind

Re: January Transfer Window 2014
Arsenal bought most of those young English players.
This is why I don't like arsenal being near the top of the league, people talk absolute crap about the club like they are doing something mad out of left field.
Wengers philosophy was to pay teenagers 30k a week with the second highest wage bill in the league until the new money clubs came along and it meant all arsenals best players left and they haven't won anything in nearly a decade.
We had all this fawning in 2008 and the won nothing and then did nothing for 5 years.

He's created 48 chances for Arsenal only Hazard & Silva have more in the PL. The only reason the assists is at 7 is because as many people keep pointing out we need a "World Class" Forward.

What do you slightly annoyed United fans think of Morrison?
Do you think he should have been loaned out instead of sold?
Seems crazy that they didnt tbh!
I mean is the exact fit for what you need

ok what about this then. The lad just wants to play. and Moyes wont even loan him!!
"Manchester United Wilfried Zaha was reported to have stormed away from the club's training ground on Thursday after manager David Moyes refused to sanction a loan move during the January window.
Zaha has made only two substitute Premier League appearances since completing his move to Old Trafford in the summer and it had been expected the former Crystal Palace would be loaned this month."

Not many west ham fans have an issue with him though. Most think he is head and shoulders above anyone else.
I think he is a little bit lazy if truth be told. BUt still is exceptional.
I also heard if a team offers 10m plus for him. His wages at West ham go from 15m to 60m!!!

Give him back to everton for martinez...and take Barkley , get Morrison back and play zaha.

dont think he's defensive enough for a cm role in a 4-4-2, he's a am who needs support behind him. i believe januzaj best position is central and i doubt moyes would have brought both through to the first team at the same time. he's hardly been known for throwing youth in. rooney was a obvious exception, but most everton fans i know have been screaming for barkley to be given a chance under moyes. its only under martinez where he's been given a proper shot at first team football
