Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
First topic message reminder :
Boring game but good result for all the top teams around these two really. Difference between Arsenal winning the league and not is a world class striker, because in tight games like these in the big games a world class striker will finish the chance Giroud had. He's been excellent this season but misses far too many to deliver a title. That's what makes Suarez/Agueor and RVP last season the difference in the end.

Still one of the biggest teams in the world despite a poor side currently. Plus Dortmund aren't winning anything anytime soon with this bayern side on the scene. We could probably pay more too.
Not that we need him with our formation but I'd love to get rid of kagawa and this seems like an opportunity.

well done palace.
Annoying as we had more shots on target, but only losing 1 gd at citeh is an achievement in itself

Citeh make it 10/10 at home in the league.
United have now won four in a row.
Fulham are in peril.

Bruce has been very astute in the transfer market, bought proven Premier League quality, you look at Koren, Huddlestone and Livermore and they're a step up from anything the other bottom half teams have.

Hull are staying up.
palace have a deffo shot at staying up after that game.
Palace
Norwich
Sunderland
Fulham
west ham
Cardiff
villa
WBA
any 3 of the above can go down.
aresrnal , chelsea or citeh can win the league
any of the top 9 could potentially get in the top 4.
its the most open season ever at this stage,

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
Palace were unlucky. Pulis has really turned stuff around for them. They would have lost this game by a rugby score under Hollaway. City now top of the league but their Christmas form has been a somewhat lacklustre. Definitely have missed Ageuro.
United churn out another victory. They are slowly putting themselves back into contention. Welbeck actually looks pretty decent when in his natural position. However, their reliance on Rooney was evident today.
It will be interesting to see if they can keep up their run of form when the fixtures start getting tougher again.

Cardiff 2-0 Sunderland See you at the AMEX next season Gus, mind you're head of the roof you think we hit.
Palace full credit to them, whilst they got 0 points great result and performance at the ethiad. Not many sides can boast about that result!
Great wins for United and Hull aswell.

Cardiff showing why they will go down letting 3 points slip like that. Even though it's Sunderland, I'm glad they got the point after what's happened at Cardiff under Tan.

I agree Ent. United surge in form is timely, as players will now see United just off the top 4 spot & looking more likely to be playing European football next season. Dortmund are in a mess this season & the exodus is beginning to take swing now. Gundogan to Madrid looks likely, Lewandowski is on his way & then there's Reus. I could see Reus going to United, if nobody else shows interest. Bayern will dominate domestically for years now & he will want a new challenge & get paid handsomely.

Doesn't really make sense for Reus or Dortmund to move in January with a WC coming up.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
It was more hypothetically speaking really. I can't see many major deals going down in January, other than domestic moves really, i.e Baines. No denying that Reus would be interested in United, I mean, Dortmund are struggling & Reus' performances have dropped, therefore he's no guarantee even starting in the German WC side.
I think United's recent upturn in results, might just defer the hierarchy from making urgent midfield purchases until the summer.

I hate football. Utd were utter dross today bar the defence and Welbeck. Ashley Young is feckin useless, Cleverley non existent, Carrick looked tired, and how pants is Hernandez's all round game
We're just so uncreative in attack its unreal. If we lose at Palace he just has to go. I can't believe we haven't sacked him already. Same problems as last year still exist, and it can't be blamed on the players as they're easily good enough

Thought the West Brom away game would be a turning point. Nope. Been the catalyst to only 2 points from 4 games, including three home games with only one point taken. Only two goals scored, one of which was a deflection. Nowhere near good enough.

It's pretty clear that the "fit and proper person" test has to be torn up and replaced though.
The belief that club chairmen know nothing about football is nothing new.
In 1956, former Sunderland player Len Shackleton wrote his autobiography and in it he included a chapter headed "The Average Director's Knowledge of Football".
The rest of the page was completely blank.
Did you fill it in for him? Must have been hard for you not to Lion.
I do jest
I would have been delighted to fill the blank page in for him, however, in 1956 I wasn't much into autobiographies so didn't see it. At that time, I was much more interested in the Beano and Dandy which, as it turns out in the long run, has proved to be ideal preparation for contributing to message boards.
I do so love a little jest.
