Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'something'
First topic message reminder :
Boring game but good result for all the top teams around these two really. Difference between Arsenal winning the league and not is a world class striker, because in tight games like these in the big games a world class striker will finish the chance Giroud had. He's been excellent this season but misses far too many to deliver a title. That's what makes Suarez/Agueor and RVP last season the difference in the end.

We need players who will stand up and be counted, kagawa isn't one of them.
Tbh I'd never play him again, unreliable, lightweight, anonymous. Thanks, it hasn't worked - good luck with your future endeavours.

I think United should give some of there players to Palace.
We will have Kagawa- He would actually be ideal for us. You can have johnny Williams for him. Good talent

Here's a question.
If Pepe Mel was English say "Brad Smith" would WBA have hired him with his record?

Brad?
that's american.
what about Chris Smith?
I would safely say Pepe sounds exotic and good in football
Tim Roth changed his name before he went out to the states because he wanted to sound american/jewish in the hope to get an acting gig
It worked

cant argue with any of that to be honest, but kagawa can still play a part. it all depends of what type of footbal we want to play and what type of team we are trying to build. this current lump it and hope because a total lack of talent/movement/vision in midfield is a major part to why games are passing him by, put a few quick technical players (like certain dortmund players) next to him and think we would see a massive improvement
but to be honest i wouldnt lose any sleep if he does go, he's had enough chances (perhaps not in his strongest position), and if we used him as a player swap to get some of the more suitable dortmund players id be happy

In quite possibly the worst article I've ever read on the BBC, Robbie Savage writes about the 12 players who should leave United.
The heavy analysis of the article overpowered me. I mean:
"Chris Smalling: I am not convinced by him. His passing is not good enough for a Manchester United player. He should go."
Analysis at its best!

Agree with most what Savage says actually. Liked the stat, 'In the Premier League, 22 midfielders have made 900 passes this season. Six are yet to produce an assist: Mile Jedinak, Jose Canas, Gary Medel, Michael Carrick, Lucas and Cleverley.
In bold are all holding, passing midfielders, Cleverley is the only attacking, creative player there who occupies the final third regularly. Embarrassing.

that is pretty telling that two man u players are in there.
I know that rooney has bagged a lot of assists- and we can see with our own eyes all the good goes through him. BUt that is pretty poor from cleverly and Carrick.
I cant blame my man Jedanick- he is just a slightly forward defender. But all midfielders should contribute in better sides with that amount of game time.

Maybe there was a limit to the article length - he is having to discuss 25 players. The crucial factor is as a Man Utd fan - do you agree with him? He is saying that 12 out of the 25 are not good enough and that seems to be about right. The biggest concern was that he thinks (as do others) that Fellaini is not good enough (not quick enough etc) ... whereas Moyes thought Fellaini was of the right quality for Man Utd and he paid a lot of money for him.Duty281 wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25665649

I disagree this is a good squad though. It's a functional squad that does the job only if all the component parts are working. Not having Carroll effectively made it a group of blokes that can't play the way they're built to.
They might be risking the messiah himself on Saturday though, He shall return and deliver goals. And if He doesn't, Sam gets sacked and we're doomed.
Got to disagree. There are players in that team that are far better than a relegation battle. Reid, Noble, Diame, Morrison, Carroll, Downing then maybe Rat and Demel are all to me more than decent players. You would only call Collins, Nolan, O'Brien, Jarvis and Carlton the functional ones really. If we didnt have those kinds of players we wouldnt be a team in the bottom half, we'd be pushing the 8th place of this world. And thats a snapshot of a decent squad that has been mismanaged and decimated by injury.
Its very easy to look at Carroll, look at Sam and say "they must go one way" but we never really have under Allardyce. Its always been attritional football when we're playing poorly anyway, then actual football when its working. Sadly, this season we've had no striker worth his weight generally and injuries killing us everywhere else. Add Nolan's complete demise and you can see why we're down there.
I think we'll either go down bottom or scrape out of it. Cos we've always been a bit mental like that.

My problem with the article is how flippant it is. Oh sure, United should just get rid of 12 players, thats how you manage football teams. Smalling definitely has something in him and needs time for one. And they can't have a world class player as back up for a world class XI. Savage knows that, but its not what gets people talking.
I'd also wonder whether its completely fair to smash the defence to pieces when the midfield in front of it is simply not good enough. I'd get rid of Nani, Valencia, Ferdinand, Buttner or Fabio, Anderson, Evra and then if they were really throwing money around I'd see if Vidic's attitude still stunk and he could go too. Giggs can choose when he goes, Young would be a maybe depending on who comes in and the offer. Cleverley, Hernandez and Smalling still have a season to show they deserve it, whilst Fellaini isnt going after a year so no one should discuss it.
That's 8 or 9 at a push, still a big swing but a couple of those will be offloaded due to performance and others down to age so it wont be as distressing. I think Nani will likely stay, but I'm sick of him being a Premier League player. He can go to Italy and use his pace to rip them apart on the counter like Gervinho has.

Here's a stat:
From his last 46 Premier League and Champions League appearances for United—dating back to the start of the 2012/13 season—Cleverley has just three goals and three assists.

At least Stewart Downing can claim he hasn't had the players to give service to, with Suarez not the type who really thrives on crosses into the box and also the year where Liverpool hit the woodwork several times. Cleverley has had Van Persie and Rooney to feed.

Giggs should've been put out to pasture.
Cleverley should be playing for Sunderland.
Valencia and Hernandez should be cashed in on

I'd keep hold of Valencia and Smalling no doubt about that but Fellaini has to be given a chance next season to see if he has a role to play.
Ferdinand, Giggs, Anderson, Nani, Young, Hernandez, Cleverly and Buttner can all go. Not offering anything to us any more.

West Ham have another injury (defender Demel after 17 minutes).
West Ham have another sending off (Midfielder Tomkins after 72 minutes) - misses next three matches.
Carroll is on but he is only half fit - so West Ham effectively hanging on with 9 and a bit players.

Sunderland 4-1 at Fulham. The relegation battle has become very interesting - at the moment 6 points separate the bottom ELEVEN teams (up to Hull & Villa) and 3 points separate the bottom SIX (up to Norwich).

One would think Moyes can't lose this game to Swansea - but a great opportunity for Swansea nevertheless.

I think its time to say fair play united and Junazi.
Junazi looks the potential he was talked up before.
Welbeck again scores. He is slowly securing his England place.
It has been a quality half of football so far.
