V2 Magazine Needs You: 2013 Boxing Awards - Underdog Of The Year
Hello to all,
Hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas period and has plenty of festive cheer remaining for New Years Eve. Final few awards for the magazine will go up today. As with the rest, looking for nominations from people to go onto a shortlist for the award.
This time it is the turn of the underdogs; we all love them...especially here in Britain, so which Underdog performance grabbed your attention the most. Who had a year to remember which you never saw coming...be it a single fight & performance or be it a fighter who rose to heights you never thought they would.
Nominations please!

Maidana v Broner
Groves v Froch

Provodnikov against Bradley. I don't believe for a second that Bradley only fought that way to win fans after the Pacquaio win. He got clipped and just HAD to fight that way. Prov was basically a Friday night fighter and was being used as a tune up for Tim. But in that defeat he was handed a world title shot which he won in excellent fashion. Now being touted alongside Pacquiao. That's as big a jump as an underdog can get I reckon haha

Kiko Martinez. Started the year getting KO'd by Frampton but ended up a World Champion hammering two relatively high regarded opponents. Both were rated top 10 by the Ring, Mathebula in particular was number 2 at Super Bantam. From how his year started to where he ended up is a real underdog story.

Darren Barker as well, did well to come back from that body shot.

Martinez is one of those guys that seems to be just getting better and better, strange considering his style and you are genuinely shocked by his age, he looks about 10 years older than that.

Wasn't the first Thompson fight last year?
Two of the best underdog, Rocky style performances were losses. The best underdog win I'd say was the dude knocking out the dude in round 1.

Good shout with Beltran Strongy. The other guy Burns fought would have been a good call if he hadn't of quit

STRONGBACK...posts without thinking and is generally hampered by stupidity and a massive lack of objectivity about whoever he's deciding to slate. Despite being outwitted and outnumbered, he flails away like the plucky little so and so he is.
