As much as Incognito and Pouncey are dicks, is this really outrageous for a NFL locker room. The reactions from the Dolphins players said it all for me really. I'd imagine both Martin an Incognito are done in the NFL

I can't believe Philbin had no clue it was going on, and if that's true to be so outta touch with what's going on in your locker room can't be a good thing!
Incognito is done. Martin might get another shot

Martin has psychological issues and won't play in the NFL until he gets his mental health sorted.

I'd be very surprised if he played in the NFL again. Firstly he just wasn't very good. You have to be tough physical and mentally to play OL so that likely counts against him too. Finally it's a tough sell to your locker room for a guy who walked out on Miami. Sam probably has a better chance of integrating into a locker room than Martin.

A large majority of ex-players in the media are garbage. Heath Evans is the worst though.

Yeah he is. Always gives me a chuckle re reading his reaction to Chips hiring
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000122162/article/philadelphia-eagles-hire-of-chip-kelly-could-be-nfls-worst-ever
The Stanford one is my favorite. Chip got outcoached by a very good coach/team a couple of times. Oh no

No highly rated prospect ever throws at the combine. Nothing to gain.

Luck threw and so did Cam.

Luck didn't.
Why throw a couple of times to an unknown WR when you can do a much more detailed programme at your pro day with a WR you've thrown to all season.

I don't want a QB who shies away from showcasing his talents. 'Oh no I might be bad because I don't know the receivers I'm throwing to.' Get a grip.
That goes for you too AJ McCarron.

But throwing at your pro day does gain something? I want a confident QB that wants to prove his talents. There's questions about Manziel's ability to throw the ball from the pocket, so why not prove everyone wrong by throwing at the Combine and not in a very very very friendly environment at the Texas A&M pro day?
He can't throw the ball standing still or without his big receiver. Just like AJ McCarron can't cope with anything without his nice roomy pocket behind his NFL calibre Linemen.

How is throwing a couple of passes to a random WR going to prove he can stand tall in the pocket. As I say, no upside for established high draft picks to do it, so there's really no point.

What is the point in the throwing drill at the combine then? We should just get rid of it since it doesn't matter.

Makes sense.
The best use of the combine is allowing lesser prospects to stand out and boost their stock. Top prospects can only hurt their stock.

While a coach/ scout maybe be a little concerned about a QB not wanting to throw to new recievers, I am not sure the the combine/ pro days are that important in 'showcasing' a prospects talent. These pre-draft events are more about their persona/ how they communicate with teams/ how they handle the media.GSC wrote:It's really nothing to do with that. You gain nothing by doing it.

I watched Bortles against Baylor the other day out of curiosity because I'd not really sat and seen him for a while. Needing a reasonable amount of polish I think, if he fell to Oakland at #5 I'm not certain I'd want to take him. Good mobility though, and I suppose I only watched one game.

That's Bortles. NFL size, just needs coaching up
I'd want Manziel in Chips offense and Bridgewater in general though.
Marqise Lee all the way tho

Makes sense for us. He was our best player on D last season by a distance. So many needs elsewhere on the roster that it makes sense to keep a vet like Hall around who is still capable of playing well. Seems to have matured a lot over the last couple of years. Only reservation is that he tends to play his best football when in a contract year so here's hoping that new found maturity means that this is no longer the case and that he earns his money. It's the going rate for a starting CB but I'll be interested to see how much money is guaranteed.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
From what I have seen of Bortles he looks very raw. His throwing action reminds me of Tim Tebow. Any team looking to take him in the first round would be taking a risk, in my opinion. I feel there are plenty of good enough QBs in this draft but don't think Bortles is one of them.

Bit of a shame but not surprising. Maturity was always his problem. Bags of talent but lacked the maturity to realise he needed to work at his game and knuckle down. Someone might take a punt on him down the line once he's reinstated cos for the vet minimum you could get a very talented pass catching TE with albeit limited blocking skills. He's a tube though.

That's where I am with him too. The only QBs I'd take at #5 overall are Bridgewater and Manziel.
I'd rather us take Clowney or Watkins and then look at a QB in round two. We've probably got a shot at Garropolo there, and if he continues to push his stock up I'd be happy with that.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
He has too confusing a name for my liking.
Of course he won't succeed if he's drafted by Oakland. But he's just as reasonable an option as Bortles.
I still think we might go and get either Vick or Freeman in FA and let them start ahead of a developmental prospect.

I'd be nervous about Manziel that high. I can see him having a great first season, but I can't see him lasting long playing the way he does.sodhat wrote:The only QBs I'd take at #5 overall are Bridgewater and Manziel
