agree with john that half the players wouldnt have been booked in the first place if it werent for the wrongly disallowed goal, so dont buy the newcastle players should have been sent off so its evened out
newcastle deserved at least a draw

Stoke 0-1 Liverpool
Cruel cruel goal. Huge deflection of Ryan Shawcross.

I'm inclined to think that, for this game at least, the officiating has evened out.
But the question is...why has it evened out? It certainly has nothing to do with the ref being any good. Had he not made that decision in the first half then he would have sent both players off in the 2nd, without a doubt in my mind. If anything that makes his decision making worse; he has gone against his natural judgement in an effort to restore parity to a game which he has affected in the first place! Just all round pi** poor officiating and not for the first time this season.
Ziggler - I can understand your point regards the standard of officiating and the fact it is easy when seeing it from our angles on tv etc; yet that does not mean the refs should escape judgement especially on decisions where, lets be frank, they have the best view in the house. The angle Jones was at for that goal meant he more than anyone should have seen Gouffran was not interfering in play.
Every week now I hear analysts and fans say 'oh with the benefit of hindsight it's easy to say the ref got it wrong'...and of course their is a degree of truth to that; however it seems to be used to consistently protect the refs from the poor decisions that continuously get made.
Whilst on the whole the standard of refereeing has improved, the consistency in decisions being made from one week to the next has got worse in my opinion, especially over the past 2 seasons. Yes it is a difficult job to do and the abuse they receive is hard for anyone to take...however they have decided that this is the career they wish to have...and they are rewarded extremely well. The average top flight ref earns in the region of £65,000 a year these days! For that amount of money they should be held accountable for the decisions they get wrong....they very rarely are!

Oh yes, if it has evened out then it's very much a case of "two wrongs make a right" which is never the best way to approach something. Newcastle should have had a goal, but they should have also been down to ten men for a significant proportion of the game.
And whilst referees earn that much in a year, I can't help but think that it's not very much. I mean, in the context of top-level football as a whole, it's not a very large slice of the money tree, is it?

City were shocking today. Hardly even deserved the win. How can you say the score would of been much more. Only reason they scored at end was because we were gung ho trying to equalise. Would never of been that open if it were rightfully 1-1. They hardly peppered our goal?
Shockingly unlucky today. Referee was appalling.
Spot on John, the dreadful decision led to the bad tackling so no in reference to the decisions evening out, they did not.

Is that a fair excuse though? We got a bad decision, so it's fine to try and kick the sh!te out of the opposition?

It's an understandable consequence and with the butterfly effect if the goal is awarded it changes the rest of the game, Newcastle could have gone on to win or City could have kicked into gear and won easier.

The replays clearly showed it wasn't hand ball HH, there was also contact in the Sterling incident unlike the majority that involve Young and Juanazaj

You should take those blinkers off Hampo but then again you Pool fans are happy having Suarez at your club which says it all really.

Contact or not it's still a dive, no different to Welbeck against Tottenham, as for it not being handball well it was.

Hit him in the shoulder, you can't give handball for that. The Welbeck one? I can only remember the blatent dive when there was no contact.

The blatent dive where there was clear contact which doesn't alter it being a dive, it hit his upper arm not his shoulder. To be honest i've lost all respect for Liverpool as a football club so hate seeing them getting dodgy decisions.

There was a video posted on here mate that showed the defender made no contact, he pulled his leg away before he touched Welbeck.

It his his arm. But I don't think it should be penalised for that, was ball to hand.

They will get top four because of him, combined with the weakness of competition. They have a reasonably average side, but Suarez is world class

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Definitely not a hand ball & provides a perfect example of my discussion with Dolphin earlier.
Suarez at it again, simply sensational player; whilst some will question him as a person and Liverpool as a club for sticking behind him....he is paying it back too fold for the club now and you have to give some credit to everyone involved because by standing by him and throwing their support (and contract) behind him they have arguably got the best out of him now.
As for the penalty, very very harsh one....another example of the inconsistencies we were talking about earlier when it comes to refereeing.
Harrier - comments such as that regards Suarez makes you no better than him in all honesty; the only reason you probably hope that is so that he doesn't rip our national side apart when it comes to the match! I don't hear you giving the same kind of abuse to Terry...or Ronaldo who has cheated various times, or indeed Young who has cheated the system plenty of times...

I give Terry exactly the same abuse, I refused to watch England while he was in the team after the Anton Ferdinand affair, he's a disgrace who shouldn't have been anywhere near the england team.
As for Young and Ronaldo, do remind me when they have bitten and racially abused an opposition player?
