Can't look pass a Chelsea win tbh and with United missing Van Persie and Rooney, just don't see them doing anything.

If Chelsea and Mourinho go for it, in other words the complete opposite of what they did in the reverse fixture, then United could be in for a humiliating drubbing here.
Just can't see any way for United here. Down on confidence, down on morale and down their two main strikers. 3-0 or more for Chelsea.

Random thought but would anyone else like to see 4th through 7th have a playoff system for the last CL place

Nope
I hate the fact that a team that finished 4th can qualify for a tournament called the CHAMPIONS league, let alone a team that finishes lower than that

I'd prefer seeing Real Madrid and Dortmund all the same rather than some minnows from Bulgaria or something

How would you work it?
4th v 7th and 5th v 6th. 4th and 5th placed teams to have home advantage in a one leg semi would be about fair I suppose.

I would. Great idea mate. Could use the runners up, getting a Europa League spot.

It seems like a good idea in a year that is really close, but there have been plenty of years where there are 10 or more points separating those places, so it would seem odd in years that end that way.

Dreading this. Can't see anything more than a Chelsea win by 3 goals

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Terrible idea, I can just about accept the second placed team getting in the champions league but nobody from 3rd downwards deserves a chance. Fa Cup winners against 4th place may make it more interesting.

I'd mimic the Championship. 4th and 5th getting 2nd leg at home. Winners play at Wembley.FreekShow wrote:How would you work it?

Last year would be Arsenal-Liverpool and Spurs-Everton

Man United starting of very well. Young testing cech early on.
Already 4 minutes in, its a much better game than the one back in August.

There's going to be a red card in this game, Luiz should arguably be off already.

United the better side, Chelsea 1 up. Football.
If you were gonna do that playoff system I'd have 4th 5th 6th and the FA Cup winners, going down to 7th in the inevitable point that the Cup winners are in the top 6. I also wouldnt have it as home and away legs, I'd love them to go back to having things like semi-finals at Old Trafford then either T'Emirates or the Olympic Stadium (someone needs to play Premier League football there).

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Imagine the play off winning team ended up losing in the qualifying game to get into the CL./ The whole thing would become a bit redundent!
The PL would also potentially set it self up for getting a worse team in the CL- thereby potentially weakening the PL's Coefficient within Europe!
However If I was to go along with this Play off idea. I would make it for the 3rd , 4th , 5th and FA cup winning team.
The winner of the Ply off gets the place straight into the CL and the runner up gets to go into pre qualification
The only reason I am adding the FA cup team is to Make it a better Cup tournament. Getting into the CL is a huge prize and would make the Cup a bigger deal.

2-0. Eto again.
I think its a harsh scoreline tbh. None the less the defending for that goal was laughable.

Not much of a final if neither team really loses.
Disgusting defending by United. Not having the top two players up front has hurt, but the defending has been awful for the goals, most notably the second

One of the big issues with a play-off format like that is UEFA who would probably oppose the change because it has the potential to weaken the Champions League to sponsors as a weaker team may get in.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
Chelsea haven't actually played very well at all in this half. Willian and Oscar have been uncharacteristically loose a few times with possession, Hazard has been good but apart from one run fairly peripheral and the defense has been shaky.
United let down by the lack of an out and out striker (no dig at Welbeck, who has done well), poor final product from their wide men, and absolutely dreadful defending for the 2nd goal. Januzai looks a class act, but not getting much creativity from elsewhere so far.

Yeah if Valencia had spent less energy holding Eto'o and more trying to clear the ball, who knows?
More diabolical defending to allow Cahill such a clear header tho.

Re: Barclays Premier League 13/14 Thread Part 'x'
What is the point of Antonio Valencia as a footballer. How is he technically fouling Eto'o yet still doesn't manage to stop him prodding that home
This is embarrassing and raises further questions as to why we are day 19 in the transfer window and still talking about this endless list of players who would love to play at United instead of acting
I think United fans are due an explanation into whats happening with this club rather than the crap that Moyes keep sprouting. I don't think anybody would think less of him if he told the truth about the Glazers being parasitic little money wh*res who would rather bbleed the club drythrough any commercial revenue possible than put their hands in their pockets and invest heavily into a failing squad

The attacking play has been fine but there's little top quality in there to make it work.
The defending has been shocking. Chelsea havent played 3-0 well, but they do a job.

For all that Gazzy, theres so many other clubs who are having worse windows and have had worse times this summer and winter. If the quality isnt there in January and neither is the value then don't buy for half a season.

By all means I don't expect us to go out and try and sign these huge names we've been linked with
but I do expect them to at least look at something to try and improve the second part of the season. Case in point why has somebody like Cabaye not been looked at?? Immediate upgrade of what we already have in the middle of the park, but at the minute we're resorting to playing a centre back in the midfield...crazy
