The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome all to the new pub. Hopefully the traditions from the last 606 will continue here in our new home. The only new rule I have really is, see that Tommy Bowe signed picture there above the bar? If anyone defaces that, they're barred. There'll be banter, indepth discussion, some rambling but above all mutual respect as always. It all looks very swish, but we still serve traditional beverages and food. So what'll it be?
Oh if you have any complaints by the way, don't look at me - speak to rugbydreamer cause she's a mod!
Now to fire up the jukebox...

Saints are a good physical side. They are not subtle, and you know where the attacks are going to come from, but you they are still difficult to stop. They use their front row players and centres to crash the ball up, then get Ashton and Foden coming in close to the breakdown and hitting holes in the line.
Once they get behind you, they run good support lines and are difficult to stop.
Having said that, people talk about the scrum as a massive weapon for them, and they have done well in that area, but I will say this. They rely on power over technique in the scrum, particularly Tonga'uiha, and a good technical tighthead can cause him problems. They play the referee well at the set piece though, as they often srummage illegally, with Tiny regularly binding on the tighthead's arm or not at all. Once they get a shove on using power over technique, expect to see Hartley pop up bringing the opposition hooker with him and they often get the penalty as they are going forward.
I expect Leinster to be a little to strong for them over 80 minutes as they have more variety to their game, but Saints are danerous as they have 2 or 3 players who can take turnover ball on their own line and go the length of the field to score.
Should be a good game.
Think my point about the Saints scrum was shown to be correct. Once Tonga and Mujati tired and couldn't rely on pure power they struggled badly.
Great second half performance from Leinster, deserved winners in the end.

Is it true Gibson got into the Leinster changing room at half time, sat them all down, called for silence, then uttered the word 'BELIEVE!' with a shake of his fist?

Can anybody tell me what Ross did differently after half time. My guess is he got under Tiny. Was that the case? Sorry I was sleeping by 9.30 and the SC4 highlights!

Good Morning Regs
What a superb weekend I've had. It's been absolutely brilliant meeting everyone, and what a final to witness last night. I just don't know where to start describing it!
Thanks for making the effort to drop by Glas. Hopefully we'll catch up with you again. Well done to Miss G for being so good too!

Cari, I wouldn't have swapped it for the World. Some were exactly as I'd imagined them (with the help of glimpses on facebook and YouTube admittedly) whilst others were completely different (I had thought Lucky was a girl ) Miss G enjoyed herself, she slept all the way home and then told her Mamgu all about it and was showing off her new scarf!
I bumped into Rob Kearney on my way back to the car. He's smaller than I imagined.
The meet as a concept is an excellent idea. It shows that this place is just another medium for social interaction, but you can't beat the real thing.
If there is ever another one count me in. Hopefully I will be off the wagon by then.
Finally well done to the Boys in Blue, the 12 County Army, the Ladyboys, the incomparable Leinster. What a team and what players Sexton and Jennings are. They knew they were bette than the Saints, but needed shock treatment of a 20 point deficit to sort themselves out. A classic final and in my eyes a classic meet, well done to you and Gibbo for dreaming them up and Penfro for being the perfect host.

Morning all. There's a lot of dozing rugby fans on the London train this morning. A cracking game last night and fanastic meeting (or re-meeting) everyone over the weekend.
Cheers to Gibbo and Cari for their efforts in starting and maintaining the pubs, thank you once again Penfro for your organisational genius.
Roll on Twickenham and the 7s this afternoon!

Enjoy the 7s Kiwi!
Glas - I'm sure there'll be others, maybe not as big, but then who knows? I saw your message to Dreamer about RK. I managed to get a photo of him walking passed us when the Leinster team walked around after the match...not much of a photo mind, but I'll put it on Facebook...
Hopefully meeting the lads in a bit to see them off on the choo-choo. Then it's back to domestics here at home. Going to upload the photos and video I've got...if I can figure out the video bit that is. Haven't tried posting a video done on my camera before...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Morning all, great to hear that a wonderful time was had by all..
Glas, in answer to your Ross question, there was a number of factors after the break.
1. The whole Leinster pack raised it's intensity meaning Tiny and Mujati couldn't dominate physically.
2. Poite wise up to some of the more questionable Saints front row tactics.
3. The season caught up with the Saints front row and when they didn't have the power left to just shove, it showed that they lack technique.
Jennings also made a difference as it gave better balance to Leinster back row and got them on the front foot at the breakdown.
Rugby is a simple game, and Leinster remembered that after the break.

He's quite freckly close up, which was a surprise (well having thought, he is Irish, so not thatch of a surprise). You can put the photo I sent Dreamer of Miss G up in the Facebook pub and all if you want. If you've got one of the group photos I wouldn't mind if one of the regs could send me it via FB or text.

Pete, when faced with a loose like Tiny you have to get his head lower than his hips then drive up into his midriff. He can block you when he's full of energy, but he won't be able to keep it up. However it's usually a process not an event. Somebody seemed to flick a switch at half time in this match.
Love sacks, I've just missed the re run of the highlights on SC4! Flip hell mun! Oh hang on that was the Amlin repeat, will the HC be in a separate programe? Yes!

Morning all.
Just want to say a huge thank you for everyone who made the meet up possible for this weekend. It was just an amazing couple of days (needless to say I'm not feeling all that great today - all though not as hungover as yesterday!)
I really enjoyed both matches, although the HC was just something else. Just incredible, don't think I've experienced an atmosphere like it before. Cardiff was just bouncing all weekend.
It was great to get together and meet so many wonderful, wonderful people. Just an amazing weekend, thank you to everyone

Afternoon all. I'm not in too bad a shape considering. I knew I was in for a long day when I tipped my first pint all down me. Hopefully the Guinness will wash out of my top.
Great day yesterday. Thanks to Penfro for the buffet. It was a great success. Highlight of the day for me was Hughie queue jumping in the Champions Village. Did us a massive favour that, not waiting for drinks for so long.

Glas! My mother used to usher there when it was...! You can post your picks on Facebook anyway Glas and most of the regs will see them if they're your friends. I'm sure someone will send copies of pictures to you. There's loads about. Munsty said he took about 300 videos and photos! I didn't take many, but I'll post what I have soon.
Hey All. Just seen the travellers off on their trains. The Two Micks gave me a cute little Oirish sheep that sings "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" when you squeeze it's foot.
Lots of tired but happy folks about today. I'm just going to chill out now and have some food.

Train at 15:15 so just killing time and watching what looks to be a very boring Spanish Grand Prix. Better news is we've managed to secure copies of The Rugby Paper. And the Pembrokeshire Pasty & Pie Co. shop looks to be open, so that will get a visit before departure.

No, the Saints tactic was to get low and drive upwards. They were getting beneath the Leinster scrum. The Leinster front row took the height down in the second half. Of course, you are right that fatigue played a part and Leinster raised their intensity. The whole Saints team from 1-15 tired in the second half and and it affected everything- including the scrum

Just uploading my pics and videos. To be fair my videos are probably rubbish cause they're a bit shaky (well I was excited and Gibbo almost knocked the camera out of my hand) and I've not used the video thing on my camera before. You can hear Gibbo going "I love Cardiff....aaah maaaan etc" and me shouting "SHAAAAGGAAAAY!" when he goes on the stand to collect his medal (for shame!). Dreamer's singing along to the 'Phonics a bit as well I'll post them sometime for a laugh on Facebook. Got some cracking photos though
Oh and I managed to capture Chilli's foot as he passed by in the parade...the rest of him is covered by a flag being flown by the person in front.
