The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome all to the new pub. Hopefully the traditions from the last 606 will continue here in our new home. The only new rule I have really is, see that Tommy Bowe signed picture there above the bar? If anyone defaces that, they're barred. There'll be banter, indepth discussion, some rambling but above all mutual respect as always. It all looks very swish, but we still serve traditional beverages and food. So what'll it be?
Oh if you have any complaints by the way, don't look at me - speak to rugbydreamer cause she's a mod!
Now to fire up the jukebox...

Ye it was a class song rev. Really moved me for some reason. Like I've heard it lots of times but some of the lyrics go like
One day like this a year would see me right. Summed up the game and the meet.

I can't agree with you there, Dreamer. The first song they played was that Flip song by the Cross-eyed Peas. I loathe, loathe, loathe that song.

Risca - I've got Dreamer on video singing along to dakota too I'll post that at some point.
I've uploaded some photos on my page, but I'm aware some regs won't be able to see them, so I'll post some of them in the pub too. Apologies to others for the duplication.

I actually didn't mind them playing that song after the match, when 'tonight's gonna be a good night' was actually true. I just remember in my last job, my boss had Heart FM on the radio and they played it EVERY DAY. The same with 'Sex on Fire,' which I liked to begin with but talk about overkill!

I went mad when they put the Quo on. "Rockin All Over the World" is a great song. Always reminds me of Live Aid.

I feel rather sorry for portnoy. I suspect he is miffed to have missed the send off. Now he hasn't quite said his goodbyes. He'll join here soon in meantime let him throw toys from pram
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Shouldn't have to try tip toe around him all the time though stag. I enjoyed his company last year but this has frustrated me immensely.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Back in bed after being assaulted by the Physio. He told me to keep mobile but it's too painful at the mo. Just trying to do stretching exercises but it's like toothache. It was really stupid. I was feeding some sheep, pouring food into a trough and next thing it was if somebody stabbed me in the hip. Flip Flip Flip Flip Flip. I started walking like Kevin Spacey in the usual suspects. Normally I'd be happy for a rest but I remember the state my desk was in on Friday. If I manage to go in tomorrow I'll have three days mail to catch up on before I start. But enough problems, PMA.
Can I put in (as Portnoys Welsh cousin) my application to be the pub contrarian? Notch, what do you reckon?

GLAS - hope you feel better soon mucker. Great to meet you on Saturday and any worries anyone had over your 'ickle one being in attendance were soon dispelled. You have a little gem there. Hope to get down to the Barn sometime next season and we can meet up for a beer when you're off the wagon

Staggy - I think you're right. Portnoys is upset because he missed the meet. However, the final pub thread was there for all to read and post on and he didn't when he could have. I think he's one of these people who moans when people don't bother with them, and yet make no effort themselves. That doesn't excuse his insulting those he's met either.

Stag, I'm sure Munsty can look after himself. Mind you Risca was pouring a lot of guiness down his shirt...hmmm?
Penfro, your other 'alf was a great help there. Wild horses would have to keep me away.

Leopards can't change their spots I guess.
There's no evidence about this Guinness down myself story, so I think Hughie was telling fibs about it. Tipping Munsty's pint on the Friday was one of my most satisfactory actions ever. I'd do it again in a hurry, but next time won't get taken in by his puppy dog eyes and buy him another one.

CARI - I've given up. I’ve met him face to face and he's a good sort and no way like his 606 persona. I just don't know why he has to get so indignant over the 'Pub history' ...etc.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Or in my current state a knackered out old nag would probably be enough.
What do regs think about the Welsh premiership clubs being allowed to chose their regions next year? The whisper is that Neath would affiliate with the Scarlets and Ponty with the Ospreys. Surely the regional facade can then be dropped and they can be called superclubs?
Does the WRU need to speed up the development if GC1404? Should they have a draft from the other 'regions' academies and have these player's contracts paid for centrally by the WRU?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Glas, I don't want Neath anywhere near the Scarlets!
We've done great things linking up mainly with Llanelli, Quins and Llandovery this season, and it would be a right smack in the face for the latter two if we link up with Neath.
They aren't needed in the Scarlets region imo.

Penfro -
Glas - hmmm I don't know whether to worry about that or not. I'm assuming there'd be a system whereby a club would have preferences, and then someone (WRU?) decides where they go? Where would Ponty go? I know Neath want to leave the O's, but would they be accepted further West?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
GLAS – I’d heard the ‘rumour’ about Neath (Don’t let them join you, self important bunch of P Ricks ) They’d ruin the whole culture and set up down there Let the self-proclaimed “Welsh All Blacks” (sic) stew in their very own stinking juices
Will all clubs be allowed to choose ? Can see the set-up next being something like this then
NGD – Newport, Cross Keys
BLUES – Cardiff RFC, Bedwas
O’s - Pontypridd, Aberavon, Swansea, Tonmawr, Pontypool
SCARLETS – Llanelli RFC, Carmarthen Quins, Llandovery
CESS PIT - Neath

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I thought the whole thing with the restructuring of the Premiership was that the region would be able to pick from two clubs, within their actual region.
So for the Scarlets it would be: Llanelli then a pick between Quins or Llandovery. I hadn't read anywhere that they could pick whatever club they wanted.
Basically Ponty and Neath just need to grow up and embrace their own region and the same can be said for the O's and Blues for working with them. Ridiculous situation.
and Cari - from this Scarlets fan, Neath would definitely not be accepted!!

Penfro - I agree that Neath shouldn't be allowed to choose Scarlets - or anywhere for that matter. They've pretty much dug their own grave. Has this choosing regions come from the Neath/Ospreys disagreement? Seems unfair if that's the reason. Can't they sort it out?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think it's to do with the premiership going down to 10 clubs. The thinking is that if Quins and/or Llandovery are in the 4 out of the 14 that don't make it, that there would be space at the Scarlets for Neath and consequently for Ponty at the Ospreys. The saddest thing is not that the Neath - Ospreys bust up is so bad that this is even considered, it is that Ponty simply can't wait to ditch the Blues.

So llanelli can in theory join the ospreys, cardiff rfc could team up with dragons, newport and the cardiff clues will align and neath and scarlets are partners. Business as usual in wales
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cari - it does all seem to have sprung from the disagreement between the O's and Neath, really does make me a bit
I didn't think any club could pick what region they wanted to be associated with, if that's the case, then why have regions at all?
Glas - aye that does seem to be the thinking alright. It would be disastrous for Scarlets to let Neath come to them though. It would ruin everything we've tried to do this season in really embracing the region. Neath is not, and should not, ever be in our region. (You have no idea how tempted I am to write FACT right now!)
And like I said, Ponty and Neath need to grow up.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Micky, when Neath and Swansea came together Mike Cuddy was the benefactor of Neath RFC. He then moved on to the Ospreys. A power struggle then developed between him and the chief exec at Neath. It's been brewing for years with threats of legal action. Anyway, it all seems to have come to a head. Neath and the Ospreys don't get on, the flow of players to and fro has stopped and Cuddy has now said he's written his last cheque for the Ospreys. All very sad.

So broadly you want 3 players who can player hooker, 3 half-back and 3 1st 5/8s, otherwise 1 back-up for each position. Which forces you to have 2 or 3 "utilities"

Somebody on 606 - it may well have been Rhino - pointed out that it would have made more sense for the Premiership to be cut to twelve or eight clubs, seeing as there are four regions. Or will each region have two-and-a-half clubs from next season?

Lucky - I think I read somewhere that Scarlets and Dragons would have 2 clubs and the O's and Blues would have 3. Not sure though, just that the Scarlets definitely would only have two. Llanelli + Quins/Llandovery.
All seems a bit strange though! would have made more sense for them to have 2 each really.
