The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome all to the new pub. Hopefully the traditions from the last 606 will continue here in our new home. The only new rule I have really is, see that Tommy Bowe signed picture there above the bar? If anyone defaces that, they're barred. There'll be banter, indepth discussion, some rambling but above all mutual respect as always. It all looks very swish, but we still serve traditional beverages and food. So what'll it be?
Oh if you have any complaints by the way, don't look at me - speak to rugbydreamer cause she's a mod!
Now to fire up the jukebox...

Staggy - to be fair, many regs don't use Facebook at all. Also, not all regs keep in touch with each other off line for one reason or another and only get to chat through here. Wasn't it you talking to me over the weekend about new regs?

Disband the pub, the 6n is rubbish. Next he'll be saying he doesn't rate Jennings!

Morning all/Bore da pawb
I'm feeling much more alive today, which is good!
Cari - it's never nice having to see staff leave, hope it doesn't upset you too much
There was quite a nice article about Toby Faletau in the walesonline today (thanks for the papers Hughie!) about how he decided to play for Wales and the influence his Dad has had on him. Good stuff.
And Stag - I still think the pub has a place on here, just so long as we make sure that whatever rugby discussions we post in here we make sure go up in articles on the boards outside too, I think tis all fine

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Like I say it def has a place but there was a stage I 606 that I would ONLY post in the pub and I'm sure thats true for others. I just wouldn't like to see that happen here.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Dreamer - it's something we all have to deal with at the mo. I have a feeling I'll be the last to go because I'm not taking voluntary redundancy.
I see what you mean Staggy. The regs in the old place dropped a fair bit towards the end which is a shame because this pub is only as good as its posters.

I think it fulfills a different role, but necessary nevertheless. There it was an escape from the headwork of constant arguments, here it provides a free space to discuss matters without the constraints of following a thread.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yes it certainly does Glas. Cari I meant to tell you. On the ferry I was reading a magazine and there was a picture of Sir Trev McDonald. One of his sons looks exactly like the guy who was working in the chippy we went to
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Also guys - I don't want the pub disbanded. No way no way no way. Just saying I posting on 606 used to just mean posting in the pub. Now there are other options available again.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Staggy - surely his son would work at McDonalds? I think one of the guys in the chippy insulted Sharpey by saying he was from Manchester cause of his Yorkshire accent.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
A good hangover cure needs to rehydrate you, give you some energy and wake you up. Therefore, I'd recommend a bottle of some energy drink like Lucozade, a fry up and a good nights sleep
As you can tell I gave up alcohol quite some time ago....

Ah yes as Mac is the Irish word for 'son'.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Lucozade is the best thing to drink after a night on the sauce.

I'm ususally good at remembering to eat something and have a pint of water before I go to bed, am rubbish the next day if I don't.
Otherwise it's sleep till 10am, get up have a few cups of tea, then at about 11:30am go out for a fry up. That usually sorts me out.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Alcohol takes energy and water out of your system. If you take on sugar however this dehydrates you further by taking water out of your gut. Therefore 2 or 3 bottles of water to a can of flat coke. Avoid salt and fibre as well as they won't help settle your stomach. Bacon is good as it has MSG which makes it palletable stimulating appetite but again plenty of water is needed as MSG dehydrates as well. It is the last thing you will want to do, but anything that raises your heartbeat (conventional - swim, touch rugby, unconventional - five knuckle shuffle) will speed the body's own recovery system. It is short term pain but you get out the other end quicker. Sleeping just extends things as it slows your body down. Exercise will also help you sleep easier the following night. The best way to avoid a hangover is to take water on as you drink the night before.

Really? Ibuprofen takes water out of the system, killing pain by reducing swelling. I suppose the quid pro quo is the pint of water!

Where's Mrs P when we need her. She'd know! A five knuckle shuffle is dangerous on the eyes but that's a risk you'll just have to take.

Pretty sure crisps are Munstys M.O. as well. Salt and vinegar ones with apple juice. Or so I think.

Yeh Stag,
I think some of the rugby talk can be set up as an article rather than be used through here. I am sure Hobo would repair that anyway.
but most of us chat in here about our day etc and other off topics (which yes I know has a subsection as well) but for that purpose the pub is a great center point to start.

Works for me Glas! No hangover but I still get a fuzzy head. I do try to drink as much water as possible the day after. Like you said, to reydrate yourself. A friend recommended this to me after being advised to do it by a nuero surgeon!

A certain footballer's lawyers will have to sue the major daily newspapers 1st - he's got plenty of column inches in the Times and the Metro this morning.

Kiwi - he's on the front of all the papers I think. Plus there's about 750'000 Twitter users who would need to be sued as well because they blabbed it all last week.
I have to be honest I was shocked it was him. My colleague here is a big footie fan and we were talking about players being naughty, and we both said how much we admired <we all know who but removed for legal reasons> for being a high profile player who's avoided scandal in his career.

Cari - aye I was really shocked it was him it was concerning as well, although there had been rumours flying around all over the place. Made me a bit really.
Stag - it's so wierd that we both use the word Glas but that it means different things. I came across something sort of similar when I was really young with one of my Irish aunties. She was called Mai, but it was pronounced May. Now in Welsh the month of May, is Mai, but it isn't pronounced like the word May. I used to get so, so confused as to how to say her name!

And the word for Blue in Ireland is Gorm. Strangely if you are talking about a black (coloured) person in Irish you say Duine Gorm (Blue Person) which is weird too.

Guys - a quick announcement and plea.
The site owner has decided that although a certain Welsh footballers name may be in the public domain, that there is a gagging order still in place, and that we could be sued if we discuss it.
now I know it sounds ridiculous but unfortunately can I ask that the person is not referred to directly until the injunction is off. I am really sorry about this!
Just say it was Paul Scholes - he doesnt have an injunction!

Smart decision Hobo.
I think they'll find it very difficult though; it's the I Am Spartacus effect. Can they really sue 75'000 different Twitter users? Completely impractical.
And wrong, I think.
