Why Braehmer should be stripped

Juerghen Braehmer has once again pulled out of a World Title defence and for this he should be stripped of his title.

His first withdrawal came in July last year when he was due to face Alejandro Lakatos. He cited a back injury then. This for me was genuine. He did the public workout and got injured afterwards. This is unfortunate and the same thing must have happened to Klitschko in December....

The second withdrawal came against WBA champion Beibut Shuemenov. He went to Kazaksthan but then cited an "illness" and there was the customary picture of him in an hospital surrounded by his promotors, Universum. This for me seemed fishy. I think Shuemenov would have beaten him and Breahmer was too scared to lose his world title.

Now we have the Celverly episode. The guy and his promotors are jokes. No wonder people are now leaving them.

He needs to be stripped and left in the Boxing wilderness. He is a disgrace and Cleverly should go on and become World Champion and he needs bigger and better things.

My question to you is this: Who should Clev face?

He should be stripped now. Cleverly often stated he wanted to win the belt against the champ in the ring rather then being merely upgraded like Enzo was.

Shuemenov is overrated and in my opnion, and beaten by Campilo twice.

But not fighting for over a year and pulling out of 3 fights surely warrants the title to be stripped. And when he is back to full health, challenge again.

Why should Clev have to wait for him to fight?, he pulled out of a fight last year, then pulls out of one 3 days before, shocking. I hope the WBO strip him, and let a fighter who wants to fight face someone for the vacant title, Cleverly would of smashed him to bits anyway

If the cut is genuine then it can be easy to prove. Sometimes injuries just happen in boxing and there can be unfortunate sequences. If the cut is real then its not Braehmers fault.

If boxers dont fight then they dont make money so I dont really believe Braehmer has been deliberately making things up. His court case was his own fault so you could argue that he could have been stripped for that.

Maybe the best thing to do would be give Cleverly the belt but stipulate he must defend it against Braehmer in the next 18 months. Then it will show if Braehmer really wants the fight.

If a guy cant defend his title consistently then something has to be done. Cleverly won interim status so hes next line providing Braehmer is declared unable to defend. The easiest thing to do would be allow Cleverly to inherit the title but stipulate he must defend against Braehmer when Braehmer is fit.

Still don't think a la Kenny Norton/Lennox someone should be given a title....

Cleverly should just fight someone in the top 10 for it another time..

He already did that though. Thats how he earned his interim status. Think it was Murat he beat. Braehmer was facing jail time so Cleverly fought the eliminator to earn the right to the title if Braehmer was convicted. Think it would be unfair to make Cleverly fight another eliminator on top.

I agree that being given a title is not ideal and unsatisfying but if they give Braehmer mandtory status in the near future it should solve the problem and indicate how much Braehmer wants the fight.

He should fight someone for the title..not the interim one...

Lets not forget, Braehmer himself was Interim Champion before inheriting the title from Erdei after he vacated.

Not saying it does. But a precedent has been set. Clev will be getting the title the same way Braehmer did.

Maybe they should give it to Cleverley then as he appears to be the only one who actually wants it?!

The interim fight essentially was fighting someone else for the title. They just did it in advance in order to avoid delays in case Braehmer was to be stripped. If Braehmer was stripped, Cleverly = champion. If Braehmer is fit to defend, Cleverly fights him for the title.

Fighting again for the title is essentially just repeating what Cleverly already did. Not that it means much as the guy the WBO would select as his opponent would be mediocre anyway.

As I said before, Boxrec are reporting a Clev vs Bellew Match up.

Not too keen tbh. Think Clevs wins easy due to a slightly suspect jaw on Mr Bellew. Clev's chin is solid so I expect him to win quite easily. Bellews heart will keep him in it

Az according to Warren he never reported the cut last week on his medical reports yet he says it's a cut he suffered almost a month ago and it was reopened this week.

Yeh, as I said, he's with the dodgiest promoters in Germany. Can never trust Universum. They've lost a good crop of their top boxers over it as well.

Its not his fault. His management team should have reported it and if he's cut, he shouldn't fight. A boxer trains and fights. The rest is up to the management team.

I want to watch Braehmers next moves carefully. If he leaves Universum then we kno who is at fault. If he stays then it is him, not Universum.

Agreed and the fact it came from Frank would suggest it should not be taken at face value. Braehmer has previous though and he probably should be stripped and given a shot when he is fit he is just holding a belt he's not a fighting champion.

Shame for a guy to lose his belt outside of the ring but it's a tough sport.

If the WBC can strip Martinez then the WBO should strip Braehmer

You're right Manos...he'll end up fighting a Warren pick who shockingly finds himself in an updated ranking list..

Braehmer is a clown of a champ. Repeated pull outs, he's only defended the title he inherited once since 2009. Put simply he's not a worthy champion and 100% deserves to be stripped. Whether Clev should just be handed his strap or whether he should at least have to fight the no2 ranked contender for it is another issue.

We all know how ratings can be manipulated, no doubt warren will fly in some elephant washer from mumbo jumbo land, give him a world ranking and a sandwich, let Clev beat up on him until warrens ref makes the usual premature stoppage and that will be that. Perhaps the only positive is that Braehmer will be consigned to the dustbin of boxing history, the pointless flaky German toss pot.
