Underated WWE stars then and now Empty Underated WWE stars then and now

Post by onestepbeyond Fri 04 Feb 2011, 10:27 pm

I was reminiscing this evening on you tube and looking up some of the old wrestlers from back in the day and it got me thinking about some of the underrated wrestlers who just didnt make it. For example how good was Gangrel? Great gimmick, great entrance and his theme song was awesome. The guy was accomplished in the ring and I just cant believe he was never given a title...shafted big time! Shame he became a porn director! What do you guys think? Any wrestlers then or now which you think are underrated and dont get that push they deserve?

My main nominee for this category is Paul Burchill.

Great look, great wrestler and he even had a great gimmick in The Pirate. Shame Disney complained about it and they turned him into an incestuous thug!

I really hope he turns up in TNa and makes a big splash, as for me, the guy could main event.

And he does the C4 Suplex better than John Morrison too.

i nominate Billy Gunn. at one time i though he had it all and was for sure going to be a WWF champion, but think it all went wrong for him with the Mr Ass gimmick

Gangrel?!

He was a gimmick wrestler, midcard at best. I liked his music and entrance but his matches weren't enough to keep people entertained and his mannerisms and promos were just so cartoonish. It didn't fit the Attitude Era at all.

My shout would go to Paul London. Obviously he suffered from being small, as well as having a really odd haircut that served to distract from his matches. But that guy was great in the ring, and he can also cut an awesome promo (look on youtube). I think as a smart-bum heel he could still draw big money somewhere; he reminds me very much of CM Punk.

Never really liked the Gangrel gimmick.

I think that Charlie Haas was every bit as good as Benjamin who seems to get the plaudits. I also really liked Perry Saturn during his run.

now if moppy had been in that hottest diva thread.....

I think most of the average guys from the 80's would walk into a top slot in this say and age. I think it's more athletic now, but someone like Haku, The Barbarian or Paul Roma would be awesome these days.

I really enjoyed Gangrel. The Brood was a terrific gimmick.

I was thinking about this the other day, in relation to how often the Michonoku Driver is called in WWE. When you confider Taka wasn't exactly a mark on the landscape on the history of WWE it's quite a testament that the move retains his name. (Unless I've got it completely wrong and he's named after the move... I'm not a wrestling move expert).

Just looked it up;
Wiki wrote:Taka Michinoku took his name as a sign of respect for his mentor The Great Sasuke, who was the owner of Michinoku Pro Wrestling and had been the first to use Michinoku as part of his ring name.

Goes on to say that The Great Sasuke was the first to use the move, but there are variations
