He needs to leave Chelsea if he wants any chance of reviving his career at the top level, he's only 31 yet because of injuries and lack of play time it seems he's more like he's 35.

Essien will never be a top level player again. It's sad to say it but like Joe Cole his time at the top is up. Two my top 5 Chelsea players, along with JT, Drog and Lamps, between 06-10. You have to feel for them. Both nasty knee injuries

I was at the Southampton game in December and Essien looked like a top quality Championship player trying to chase and keep track of Ramires, Osvaldo, Lallana etc.

Interesting Fernando. Basically Pjanic is a key player for Rudi Garcia at Roma, younger than Cabaye at 23 or so & would represent better long term option. Cabaye would bring a French involvement back to PSG & provably cheaper, as I couldn't see Roma selling for less than £20m, when they know PSG are rolling up. See what happens.

Agree, Hulk is vastly overrated.

Lacina Traore joins Everton on loan. Someone like Chelsea or Liverpool should have signed him. Why don't Liverpool go for Jucieli?

West Ham look like they will actually get Borriello and Nocerino. Borriello at the least ha tweeted a goodbye to Roma fans and followed Whufc Official on twitter. Modern transfers, how bizarre.

Leeds turn down a £3-3.5m bid for McCormack, Yorkshire papers and some other journos claim West Ham will be back in for a higher bid over the weekend.

There's life at Upton Park yet!

Reading between the lines I think it's Mourinho's respect of United that has helped push this deal through, I don't think he allows one of his star players to join any other rival.

Mirror state United bid £22.5m for Luke Shaw. Telegraph claim Rooney close to agreeing huge deal to stay at United, maybe £300k a week, with the Sun suggesting he'll be made captain. Another paper claims United target Cavani is unhappy at PSG (fat chance of anything happening there).

See what a little transfer does? Optimism all over and Wenger is back to being a Muppet again.

I genuinely believe we have an absolutely huge amount to spend and personally find it refreshing that the club are supporting a new manager going through a tricky beginning. Luke Shaw is THE left back I want, he will be world class one day and follow in Ashley Cole's footsteps as the countries number one. Cavani no thank you, too old now and IF Rooney signs a new deal we really don't need him. GUNDOGAN PLEASE.

Never trust a word a manager says in the window..

You will get more sense out of a brighton fan after a hammering at selhurst.

He's near enough 27 Fernando, to me that is too old to be spending huge amounts on a striker and we're talking in excess of £40mil here and he just isn't worth that much anyway. I would regard him as a second tier forward worth £25mil at most, never been convinced by him and he's a player that needs everything set up to suit him.

You might accuse me of being bitter and always unhappy, but if we spend 10's of millions more on players in addition to the £65 million we have spent this season so far I will just wonder where the hell this money has been for the last few years and wonder what fergie could have achieved with it.

Pretty good signing in Borriello, suits both, he was never good enough for AC or Roma but is earning around 80 thousand a week in wages and never plays. So makes sense for him to move on, Nocerino has been hopeless for a couple of seasons but a new challenge might reinvigorate him.

Would this comment be in response to Sralex's remarks that he's moved on from football now, and then in the same breath gave his unequivocal support for Moyse before saying that the title race isn't over yet..?

The mind games go on.  Good old Alex, he never lets us down, does he..?

As for Arsenal and City trembling in their boots at the prospect of a late United charge up the table, well, I may have missed something (please tell me if I have), but I'm not hearing too many concerned noises coming from The Emirates or Eastlands at this time.

For men "under pressure", Wenger and Pellegrini look pretty cool about it to me.

Why are the papers saying that it is a priority that Arsenal must sign Draxler for £30m? They've already got a quality attacking line and if they are looking for a more of a winger like Walcott, then Draxler isn't the person need as he plays more in that attacking midfielder position. Surely someone like Greizmann should be a good enough target and even Arda Turan?

Same situation with Mata and United. He isn't this wide player they are after. Unless he plays in Januzaj's position as a secondary striker trying to drop deeper into attacking midfield positions, making him harder to mark. But where would RVP and Rooney and Januzaj fit in? Unless Januzaj goes into a wider position. Then again, it will strengthen their options massively, which is what Moyes might want to be doing at United. but a central midfielder that is a box to box is surely the best option.

I have no idea how you've managed to come to that conclusion, more in reference to the pair having to make a comment about Mata. That to me in Wengers case shows he's starting to feel the pressure and worried about slipping up against us.

if they are looking at cavani I can only see it as the replacement for Rooney.

and think about a team of mata, cavani and rvp.

That actually may work better as a unit.

Cavani may want to leave(but i would suggest in the summer) due to being overshadowed so much by Ibra.

I too would be surprised if there was much in the Cavani rumours. Wrong area for United, they need to look at the other side of the pitch right now, surely? Cavani would want huge wages too you'd think?

I find it amazing that Mourinho has managed to wind up both Pellegrini and Wenger by selling what many people believe is one of our best players. Pellegrini always struck me as far too sensible to get dragged into that sort of thing.

but attack is the one area where they do have real quality, with Rooney, RVP, and now Mata, backed up by the very talented Janujaz, and Wellbeck and Hernandez aren't too shabby either. I can't see a team reasonably having Cavani, RVP and Rooney in the same squad, when they have such defficiencies elsewhere, doesn't make sense to me.

If they go for Cavani, that for me means Rooney's on his way out, surely?

There is no chance of them Getting Cavnni this window, but in the summer maybe.

I kind oif respect the fact they are talking about big players from big clubs though. Man u and in fact most PL clubs have been playing second fiddle to the other big 3 for a few years now. Man U needed to become a dominant voice again.

I dont really think Cavani is a target to be honest. However (with the caveat being I think Hernandez could go)

RVP/Cavani/Welbeck/Rooney

RW - Rooney/Welbeck/Mata/Cavani/Januzaj

LW - Same

Off the striker centrally - Rooney/Mata/Januzaj/Welbeck

Could then play RVP with Mata, Cavani and Rooney behind with Welbeck and Januzaj as the other options.

Buy a Marchisio, a Vidal or someone strong alongside Carrick and they can go attacking overload with a good midfield behind.

Now in no way do I think it's a go-er but not impossible tactically.

Bild are going on with stories that Moyes has met Kroos' agent.

Good to see they are getting linked with proper names again, seems to have come on a lot stronger after the Mata deal. Just takes a bit of confidence in their ability and ambition

Dolph its well and good having loads of good players in similar positions. But it can affect certain players and the teams moral.. There is a fine line espicailly when you have players like Rooney in there. Cavnin is also the type not to like playing second fiddle. As he is supposedly not perfectly happy about being at PSG due to Ibras dominance

Thats fine, but you'd expect them to have at least 6 players for those 4 spots, if not a couple more. So Cavani, Mata, Januzaj, Rooney, RVP, Welbeck as those 6 would be very good. Still dont think it will happen, like ive said each time ive posted on this, but its not impossible.

Well yeah i think everyone feels its almost impossible.

a 55m signing 6 months ago that is scoring at a decent rate to move to united..

But we would have laughed at this link in the summer. Its not quite so funny any more is it!!

I wouldn't want Cavani, too much of an expenditure on a player we don't really need, most of these rumours are fantasy anyway.
