The type of centre back we need depends on the future of Vidic, if he stays we need a fairly young player but if he goes we need someone with experience.

I think United need to rebuild for the long term. Catching City and Chelsea isn't really a viable short term strategy so building a team that can compete in the long term should be the aim. A 30 year old CB doesn't really fit into that.

A long term strategy doesn't consist solely of young players, you also need experience to help them develop, you can think both short term and long term at the same time.

You can be 25 and experienced enough. Dantes not good enough to be considered a must have regardless of age. Unless he's a bargain I don't really see the need.

At this point in time it's hard to know what the future plans for the squad are, there are so many players potentially leaving you don't what positions need cover or replacing.

Shaw, Gundogan, Coentrao and a centre back should be enough for a title challenge next season.
Nani, Anderson, Cleverley, Vidic, Ferdinand, Fabio, Evra, Buttner and Young all leaving.

Cleverley I would keep. Vidic I would and I think a new LB is required. Potentially another Winger as well.

I would take the lad. No problem.

He gets a rough ride. But not a bad player. Stats last year were very good.

This year he has been awfull. And that is being nice. However at least he tries and has had experience.. He passed ok last season. He just needs to go back to basics and take the simple pass more often.. United need to tick the play along. Cleverly has been to direct- trying to play like Carrick Barkley or Gerard and he isn't that type of player. He needs to watch videos of scholes a bit more

Cleverley needs to be kept as a squad player. As Liverpool fans know, there's no point in having 11 good players only.

We'd also need to keep someone who could play at left back rather than buy one and sell our other 3.

- - - - - -  -RVP- - - - - - -

JANUZAJ- ROONEY- -MATA--

-- - -CARRICK- FELLAINI- - -

I keep hearing people or United fans down the pub & elsewhere, stating RVP, Rooney, Januzaj & Mata this & that but in reality the likelihood of them playing together is slim. Offensively, would be great, however, defensively United would be opened up with ease. Two slow central midfielders, along with Januzaj & Mata unwilling to work for the team, in aiding & supporting two poor or declining full backs in Evra & Rafael will cause problems. Why do you think Welbeck & Valencia get so much game time, because of their engines, work rate & defensive skills.

It will be incredibly interesting to see how Moyes plays this, formation wise. Does he go gung-ho with the exciting four or does he reign it in & think logically about what will suit United best in the short term. Chelsea or Mourinho has transformed Hazard & Willian into workhorses from those wide positions, can I see Mata & Januzaj being as effective.....not in my opinion. Therefore, Welbeck & Valencia are still going to integral parts of this first team. I don't see United being transformed into anything spectacular until centrally they are strengthened & two new reliable & strong full backs are purchased.

As for Cleverley, is he on 40k a week, nobody will touch him - he'll be an effective squad player & he won't complain too much because he's been given a lifeline at United by Ferguson & is living the dream.

Januzaj does his bit off the ball, mata will do - just not to the level mourinho wanted.

You are right, we are unlikely to see that system/players in the big games but at home and against the smaller sides we could well see it. He won't be able to play mata unless he adopts a similar formation/approach.

Midfield still needs sorted though.

I really struggle to know what players you have seen at West Ham that are better than Carroll? Tevez and maybe Ashton aside, we've lived off Zamora, Cole, Harewood, Carew, Ilan, Franco, Di Michele.

Certainly intrigued to see strikers you think we can get for small outlay that have better records than Borriello?

On the Man United attacking-options-formation-conundrum I would look at both the work rate of Rooney, who will naturally get involved in midfield battles anywa, as well as the example of Arsenal in this Premier League season. Attacking adventure has got them this far. They have two more natural central midfielders, but if United lined up with that front four then it would be similar to Giroud, Ozil, Cazorla and Walcott playing together.

£14m was never going to be accepted, especially after what Arsenal offered. Ashley will hold out for around £18m or hope a bidding war presents itself, however, Man United would know they could not out-muscle PSG.

£14m is poor considering they are trying to get £25m out of him. Good on newcastle, they are aiming to get the best deal as a lot of United fans are saying that he is 28 and will only be like Carrick and Fletcher in a couple years.

When you're aiming for around £20m on a player, the price goes up a few million just for PSG and their money. So that bid is a joke

"David Moyes has promised that the club-record capture of Juan Mata will be "the first of many" new arrivals at Manchester United this year.

The Barclays Premier League champions announced the £37.1million signing of the Spanish playmaker on Saturday evening.

It is a deal which it is hoped might give United's difficult campaign some impetus, with the team seventh in the league and out of both domestic cup competitions."

Says in the same interview there's unlikely to be anymore in January. But if the opportunity arose....

More the summer we will be investing.

Likely some truth to it but also to pacify the fans and a certai player who has just entered contract negotiations.

If Blackpool are going to loan him they are obviously looking at a sale come the summer.

Loaning him to a team that has a good chance of staying up increases that likelihood.

Could well be a team like Swansea.

Surprise Surprise! Little surprised we havent gone in, think we've got a loan left and I bet Paul would love his kid here.

Cabaye is 6/5 with Skybet to be a PSG player before the window closes and evens to leave Newcastle this window. Enticing price, especially the latter.

Heitinga to Gala is also 5/6
